I see that the club have released ticket prices for next season here - www.sacfc.co.uk/index.php/news/latest-club-news/1220-201011-admission-prices-announced.htmlAdult and concession tickets have been increased by £1. I think the average for this level is usually £10 so will this make us one of the more expensive clubs at this level? I haven't seen what the other clubs are announcing for next season however. Do you think the club is right to raise ticket prices? I realise a pound isn't actually a great deal but, considering the current economic situation, would it be better for them to keep prices the same or even lower them slightly in order to get more people in the ground? I think the Saints City Trust conducted a poll on their website recently about increasing attendances where the cost of tickets was one of the main factors people voted for. The announcement today also indicates that season ticket prices will remain the same next season. The club have also announced that there will be a 'Saints Super Saver' ticket for those buying their season ticket before Friday June 18th, which will result in a saving of 20%. So, for instance, for the standard terrace season ticket of £175, you could save £35, paying £140 instead. This is a pretty good saving, resulting in a cost of just under £7 per game. How many of you will be renewing or buying a season ticket for this season? With so much uncertainty and negativity around the club's future, and specifically around Gibson's regime, I wonder if many fans will keep their money in their pockets for now.

I suppose that there doesn't seem like a lot to be positive about at the moment Webbo.

At least he's being honest Webbo. I really don't like this decision by the club, just Gibson trying to make money. Not really interested about us the fans.

Saint is perfectly entitled to discuss his opinions here Webbo. I believe what Saint means is that the club are obviously trying to get more funds from gate receipts but obviously he doesn't feel that raising the ticket prices is the right way to do it. Maybe he feels, as I do, that the club should be doing more to attract new support, and that it should be attempting to raise the gate that way.
I would hope that Mr Gibson and his colleagues realise that in these difficult times watching football can be a luxury and that they are also aware of the worrying fall in attendances last season. To try to help with both of these problems does anyone think that the club could take a more adventurous decision to reduce prices slightly for next season instead? This, alongside some major promotion in the local community, could create a bit of a buzz around Clarence Park and potentially bring in some new support. I wonder if such a scheme could work for St. Albans City?
My personal concern is whether or not the average Saints fan is going to part with his money for a season ticket while Gibson is still at the club. Notwithstanding all of the current uncertainty around the future of the club, there is also the matter of Gibson's financial 'planning'. If the club can only be competitive for three-quarters of the season or even less than that, as was the case last year, you'd have to wonder why any fan would pay for their tickets to all home games straight up at the beginning of the season. On the other hand, considering the raise in admission prices, you also have to wonder whether those fans who pick and choose their games might just come to less games due to the increased prices for 'on the day' admission.

I too have my opinion... any comment which is not anti Gibson gets shot down by a long winded post by yourself. The club have made a statement for next season and all you do is question it. You really need to get a life

To be honest, this isn't much of an issue as far as I'm concerned. The truth of the matter is that we are in serious financial trouble, and Mr Gibson, as a business man, has made a decision to try to combat that. Personally, I think we should wait and see how this affects the gates before we start making decisions on whether he's trying to strip us for cash. At least he's not stood doing nothing - provided the gates don't fall too significantly, it should get the club some more income.
True fans won't turn their back on the club for the sake of a quid, and just one pound per person can make a big difference every other Saturday. So I'm going to side with Webbo on this one, and say let's see how this pans out.

What's wrong with talking about the statement? This is a discussion forum after all. That's rich coming from someone who pretends to be a 19-year-old girl called Flo on the Internet. ;D

I also realise that £1 isn't a lot on a match-by-match basis, as I said in my opening post, although it does potentially add up to £21 a season if you are going to every home game in the league. You are right that £1 per person can make a big difference. But if keeping ticket prices the same, or even reducing them, would attract more fans, then you are potentially making a greater difference. Plus what if increased gates would result in more people buying programmes, playing the raffle, buying food and drink, merchandise from the club shop etc.?

Six of one, half a dozen of the other, I think. Gibson tried reducing prices midway through last season, and it didn't have a major effect. He's trying something different this year, and it may work, it may not. I guess we'll find out.

£1 is fair cop

Gibson tried reducing prices midway through last season, and it didn't have a major effect. Was it promoted/advertised/marketed very well though? And it was just OAPs and students, wasn't it?

yes it was and I have had a lot of good feedback at the bar from the people who benefited from the price reduction.
Just a question - what exactly have you ever done to support the club?

Can you detail how it was promoted? I'm willing to stand corrected but I think if you asked a number of people walking around St. Albans on a Saturday, they probably wouldn't have a clue about the price reductions last season.

Personal insults and swearing have no place on this forum. Take this as a first warning please Webbo.
