* Lewes Football Club was formed at a meeting at a local pub (The Royal Oak) in 1885 and initially wore green shirts designed to evoke the surrounding South Downs. The present red and black kit was adopted in 1893.
* The club have always played their home matches at the Dripping Pan (often just called The Pan). The ground itself is known to have been used for football matches prior to the formation of the current club, and has been used by the local people for recreation since time immemorial. The unusual name, "The Dripping Pan", is because the site was where monks from the local priory used to dry water from the nearby river to make salt. This also accounted for the pitch being sunk below ground level and being surrounded by grass banks on all sides.
* On October 25th 2010, Steve Ibbitson resigned his position as manager of Lewes FC, but was invited by the Board to become club Chairman, a position which the popular Yorkshireman accepted.
* Former Croydon Athletic manager Tim O'Shea immediately became the new team manager alongside his assistant Neil Smith, with the Rooks bottom of Blue Square Bet South.

Saint King of the Castle's Final Word:[/u] Another week that Saints fans would do well to forget about quickly. First, a 6-0 thumping at the hands of Welling and then a 2-0 defeat at home against Farnborough.
The game on Tuesday saw a better performance from the Saints in the first-half but in the end, it was just more of the same. City held their own but never looked like scoring and in the 69th minute, Boro' took the lead through King. In the second-half, Farnborough were firmly on top, and they deservedly scored again through King, to ensure that they were able to take the full three points back with them to Hampshire.
After the game, Castle summed the game up like this: 'The game hinged on their quality and our lack of quality'

This Saturday, however, sees an absolutely crucial game for Steve Castle's Saints. It is going to be a six-pointer, as thy say, even this early in the season, against Lewes at the Dripping Pan.
Lewes come into the game on the back of a defeat against Bishops Stortford. The Rooks currently sit one place below the Saints, in 19th position, which is the last relegation place. So far this term, Lewes have won 2 games, drawn 3 and lost 10, giving them a total of only 9 points.
They have scored a total of 11 goals in 15 games, which is an average of 0.73 goals scored per game. They have also conceded 20 goals in 15 games which is an average of 1.3 goals being let in per game. But their goal difference is only -9 while the Saints' goal difference is a lowly -12.
The Rooks have been strugglers in the BSBS since they were relegated from the BSBP a few seasons ago. Last season, they finished in 19th position on 42 points, just managing to avoid relegation from the division. The two games between the sides both ended in draws last season, with just 2 goals being scored over the two matches. City will be hoping they can do better than draw on Saturday.
The Saints go into the game on the back of just 1 win in 23 league games and, if a win is not recorded at the Dripping Pan, the Saints are sure-fire favourites to be relegated. Sigere will be hoping to mark his return to his ex-club by scoring and helping the Saints ease some of the pressure on them.
So, will it be a crucial 3 points gained for the Saints on Satruday? Or will Lewes heap the misery on City? Share your views and get involved in the pre- and post-match discussion in this thread below.
