The Final Word (Written by Saint)How did the Saints get on in their last game? The Saints travelled to Evesham and came back with a point after a 1-1 draw at St. George's Lane on Saturday. City started brightly, having the majority of the ball, but failed to create any real chances and were made to pay on 26 mins, when Wayne Daniel got his head on the end of Lewis Tasker’s corner. Saints defender Nerada Bernard cleared the ball off the line but the officials judged the ball to have crossed the line giving the hosts a surprise lead. Evesham ended the half the stronger side, and this continued on into the second half. There was a distinct lack of opportunities for both sides during the final 45 minutes, but with 14 minutes of time remaining, City found an equaliser. The Saints won a corner and from Hart's resulting delivery, centre-back Cedric Ngakam scored for the second game running with a firm header. What did David Howell have to say about it?When asked about the remaining games, Howell said: “It’s going to be hard whatever happens from now until the run-in. There are going to be sides, not just us, who are going to pick up or lose points. We just have to stay focused and we know what we've got to do. I wanted us to get as many points as we could before we embarked on our four home matches and now we've got to go and get as many points as we can from them'. The manager had this to say about the game: 'It was a different game. Evesham are working hard and fighting for points for different reasons and we’ve got to be able to match that. Like I said there are no "gimmes" or easy games. You are going to come up against opposition that want the three points as much as you do'. Howell's full intereview can be heard on the SACFC website here: www.sacfc.co.uk/index.php/news/-manager-interview/1866-owsy-weve-got-to-stay-focused.htmlThe interview can also be read on the St Albans & Harpenden Review site here: www.stalbansreview.co.uk/sport/localsport/9586345.Saints_aiming_to_make_Clarence_Park_a_fortress/ How are Bashley getting on this season? The Bash are currently sitting in 14th position in the table, with 41 points from 33 games, 9 points behind the Saints having played 1 less game. In their last league outing, Bashley got a credible 1-1 draw at home to top of the league Brackley Town. The home side scored through Richard Gillespie, before Marvin Robinson levelled things up. Finally:So will the Saints continue their play-off push on Saturday? Or will the visitors Bash a hole in the wall of fortress Clarence Park? Get involved in the pre- and post-match discussion in the thread below.

The City Archives - Herts Charity Cup Final, 1998[/u] We have a new feature to place alongside our previews this season, as one of Saints Chat's regular posters, Brummie, delves into the history books to provide us with match reports from the past. This gives a chance to walk down memory lane, or learn a little about City's past, before the next match in the present! This time, Brummie has given us a typed report of a Herts Charity Cup final match between St. Albans City and Berkhamsted Town. The Saints thrashed Berko in the final with Clark getting a hat-trick. Something to inspire our attackers for Saturday's game. Take note Simon and Sakho! Thanks, as always, go to Brummie for delving into the City Archives to provide us with an interesting read alongside our usual match previews!

Slightly late start as Bashley were delayed on the M3 by an accident.
After 30 minutes, there is no score. Bashley had slightly more of the play in the early stages but the Saints are looking the more likely to score now.

Lots of pressure from City. Best chance for the Saints was a shot deflected onto the top of the bar.

HT: 0-0. Saints should really be winning after the amount of possession and pressure they've had.

Goal: 73rd minute. City 1-0 Bashley. Bakare header judged to have crossed the line by the linesman. Complaints from Bashley, but from this angle, looked the correct decision.,

Well done Saints. Stayed patient, played some good football and were, in the end, rewarded with two well deserved goals.
Some good displays by the likes of Ijaha, Newton and Simon Martin today. Seany Shields off the bench to spark us into action again!
Official site says: 'The win took them to within five points of the play-offs'! Keep it up City! COYS!

Would it be a stretch to say that that was the best footballing performance I've seen at the Park since the days of the late, great Mr. Lippiatt?
Fantastic performance. The only thing lacking was the final ball initially, but we found our range towards the end of the game, as the goal times suggest.

Probably, it was a very good passing performance, certainly never saw anything like that under Castle
I feel we have to win all these 4 home games in order to stay in contention

COYS, definitely agree with you, best I have seen us play this season.A world away from what was served up last week down at Worcester. Top performances from Hyde and Ijaha in midfield and good battling by Simon and Sakho up front. Particularly pleasing to see Sakho winning his share of high balls, something that has been missing from his game lately.

As well as getting into the + goal difference now we are the joint 3rd highest scorers in the league but still the 3rd worst defence need to keep a few more clean sheets before that improves. All in all though still improving and heading upwards. Look at the difference in records with the teams just above and below us: www.footballwebpages.co.uk/southprem

I don't think that was Saint's choice, Hatboy, although I might be wrong. I think he was just posting up who the sponsors of yesterday's match picked as their MoM. The match was sponsored by IFPC and they picked Micah Hyde.

Whilst we may have played a good passing game yesterday, it seemed that it was the final pass or poor shoting that let us down again for the 1st half.
Once again the introduction of Shields in the 2nd half seemed to provide the spark that was needed.
We are improving but still more work needed. Play-offs this season may be a step to far.
