FT 2-2
Really unlucky not to take three points by the sounds of it.

I think that's game over if you look at the goal difference Totton drew

Sky Sports has it as a 3-2 win for Chesham

On a positive note, I see that we finished as runners-up in the Non League Chips final standings - t.co/UQtOdrTjAnother one for the honours board!

I think today has showed what a poor standard this league is not just on the playing side but they officials aswell. Chesham were not a great side and we should have won if we took our chances but how the linesman could not see the goal (atleast a foot over the line) is beyond me and then to say Shields dived when he was taken out when through on goal is beyond me. I think today has convinced me that if we keep the majority of the team we will be promoted next season.

Frustrating days. We've come so close to 6 points this weekend. I agree about the standard of the league, and some of the other teams near the top. And, I also hope we can build and get promotion next season. But, we'll have to be more consistent - and, our defending has been a problem for most of the season (let's hope we can sort that out for next season)

If we have serious intentions about winning this league outright next season and that has to be our target (for me, the play off positions are not an option), we need to strengthen in just about every area except gk. Of the side that started today, keeping 6 sounds about right, excluding the 2 subs, who came on. Our main priority has to be finding a 25-30 goal a season striker, who can finish. Not easy I know but it has to be done. We could do worse than go for Effiong.

Boomer,as someone who has obviously been a very loyal supporter of the Saints for quite a while, and also a someone who writes a great deal of sense on this forum, may I respectfully take issue with you regarding your comment 'the play offs are not an option'. (for next season). Are you are inferring that we are too big a club to be playing in this division ? Many on here have also said 'this is a poor division, the quality is low etc.' As I have only starting following the Saints this season I am not really in a position to argue that point, but I don't feel that any club has 'a right' to be in a higher division, a club plays 40 odd games and ends up where it deseves to. Today was the second occasion since the turn of the year that we have gone to the second place club and taken a point, - at Totton a deserved draw, and today where we were clearly the better team.I feel Howell has put together a decent squad, and have written down eleven players who I would be happy to see retained for next season, so a bit surprised to see you would only be keeping six.Could you say who the other three are ?

Shields and Bakare dropped to the bench - what's that all about? Ok so Sean might not of been fully fit (went down twice under challenges when he came on ref said play on for one and booked him for diving for the other) but no one at the game could believe Furlong started ahead of Bakho ! We were definately the better side today hit the post, had a goal not given and a penalty saved (the ref made Bakho move the ball into the hole that was a penalty spot !) Special mention to Newton today who was excellant Nice to see another honest write up from a home fan too

Hi lonecrank, thank you for the response to my post but I would like to make it clear that in no way was I inferring that we are too big a club to be playing in this division. We are in this division by right, all of which is attributable to the previous administration. I am not sure if you attended the first couple of Fans' Forums or not but from recollection, it was stated by Lawrence Levy of Ian Ridley (I can't remember which) at either the one last June or the following one in September that the Club's long term target was a 5 year plan (or 7 year plan?) for us to eventually make the Conference National and subsequently, Division 2 within that time frame. Maybe I misheard it and if I did, I apologise but I am fairly certain that I didn't. In this connection, I feel we need to aim high next season to reach the next rung on the ladder and that aim should be to win the Southern Premier outright. You need only to look down the road at near neighbours Luton Town's attempts to return to the Football League via the play offs over these past 3 seasons - 2nd, 3rd and currently 7th. It does not make for good reading. The play offs are a lottery. From virtually a standing start, I feel, overall, that we have really well this season and I think most sensible supporters would honestly have grabbed an 8th place finish with both hands, come last August. However, although we have done well, we are looking at a different scenario next season, if we wish to stay on target and return to the Conference South and, moreover, stabilise our position there the following season. If this is to happen, there is no doubt in my mind that we will still need to look at strengthening in a number of areas. Others may not agree but that is my take and I am not alone. COYS No images allowed -http://i44.tinypic.com/34o7ceq.jpg Couldn't agree more with that last paragraph, boomer. I think we can be (relatively) happy with eighth this year - this season was always going to be a period of stabilisation, under new ownership and in a division unfamiliar to the club. However, as you say, the ultimate aim has to be promotion next season - and I'm as sure as you are that the owners/chairman did say that the eventual target was to be in the Conference and then the Football League. There is no doubt that winning the league is the best way of doing this, especially considering the foundations we have set for ourselves towards the end of this season. When you said that the 'playoffs are not an option', I think lonecrank may have interpreted this as 'we're too good for the playoffs and should walk the league.' I agree with you, boomer, when you say that the playoffs are too much of a lottery to rely upon and we should really be gunning for the title. That said, if someone offered me promotion next year via the playoffs I would most certainly take it and presumably this is the same for you, boomer? I couldn't be more fussed about how we get out of this division but we really need to be out by next summer if we're to meet the aforementioned target. If we're getting 400+ fans every week in the Southern Premier, who's to say we won't be getting 500+ in the Conference South. Basically, there is the foundations here for this club to make progress in the coming years but I fear that none of that will happen if we don't get out of this division relatively quickly.

Boomer, thanks for your response,I am very happy that you have cleared up my misconception of your original post. I have only attended the latest fans forum, but I am heartened and excited to hear of the owners long term objectives. I am pleased with this seasons progress,as you say from virtually a standing start,we have certainly equipped ourselves well against the top teams in recent months,I am certainly looking forward to next season with a great deal of optimism.
