Have no problem going out of this competition want to concentrate on the league and would rather have an FA cup run than a Trophy run !
Just hope we had a slightly weakened side out though with this result.

We pretty much had the first XI playing.

Ditto. This competition would hinder us later in the season. The FA Cup is the place to be so roll on next week.

Well, that was more than a bit rubbish. Arlesey weren't particularly impressive (apart from the exceptional Drew Roberts), but we were pretty poor.
We were unbelievably unimaginative, lacking enterprise and intelligence across the pitch. We struggled to find feet from the back and the crosses we supplied were constantly floated straight into the hands of Nathan Abbey as if we weren't realising how ineffectual we were.
Have to say though, I agree that maybe it's not beneficial to be in this competition for the long run and it looked as though the players agreed. When we play this lot in the league I expect us to be far more committed and impressive because something was missing today.
Oh well.

Scrappy game with another poor referee in charge. Subbing Hayles was a good move as the ref seemed intent on sending him off. Lacklustre performance from the Saints but promotion is the priority this season so losing will not cause a backlog of games to build up. If we play like that next week we will be out of the FA Cup. I'm sure Owsy will have had something to say about the performance.

Subbing off Barry Hayles was a sensible move,he handled three times in the first half, the first one deliberately in the box to gain an advantage and he was correctly booked by the referee, and was lucky not have been sent off for the 'clash' just before half time.I agree this was a scrappy match but Arlesey were deserving winners,I had seen them play at Hemel a month ago and they are a decent outfit, two solid centre halves, two good full backs who gave our wide men little change, and two lively strikers. They have obviouly spent a few quid constructing this team and I would think they will be in the shake up for the play off places come the end of the season. A disappointing afternoon, but as others have said we may look back on this result as a blessing in disguise.

Spot on with your prediction for this match, I see, Lonecrank! I agree that Arlesey are a very solid outfit and they certainly edged the game today. The Saints were disappointing and lacking a spark in attack. It seemed Arlesey were all too easily able to repel our attacks. It was pretty scrappy at times and not the greatest game to watch. Always disappointing to lose and to go out of a competition but, as others have said, maybe it could end up being a blessing in disguise. The Saints really have to get it right in the FA Cup though next weekend.

I notice attendances were down in quite a few of the other games today - seems that quite a few people don't have much time for the trophy. I'm sure (i hope) it'll be a different story next week ...

We pretty much had the first XI playing. That was the only thing that worries me unless they just went into the game not really caring about the Trophy either, we'll see when we play them in the league.

Subbing off Barry Hayles was a sensible move,he handled three times in the first half, the first one deliberately in the box to gain an advantage and he was correctly booked by the referee. Did he? I thought the ball bounced up very fast and rolled across the shoulder of an Arlesley defender and everyone else near me thought the same Just goes to show how things can look from different angles, I agree he had to take him off though as he was getting frustated. I think that double sub took the wind out of our sails, I actually thought until that and their 2nd goal we shaded it but after that we were very poor

Well if that was the case then I have no hesitation in offering my apologies to Mr Hayles. I was viewing from the Coca Cola Stand.

we were very poor yesterday against a very physical arlesey side, who also weren't particularly good are defending is dreadful if we are to progress in the f a cup we will have to improve 100 percent on this utter garbage!
