Agreed we did play very well for short periods, the last fifteen minutes of the first half were particularly good, but my oh my what a defence.A complete miss kick by Moussa for their first, no tracking back from the midfielders for the second - probably Hyde's fault, and they should have repeated last seasons haul here. For the last twenty minutes anything chipped over the top of our defence looked likely to produce a goal. The shot that hit the underside of the bar (Jupp had given that up as a goal),when Towers went round Jupp and hit the side netting, then the free header from close range, I know Barwell were four goals to two behind and playing with ten men,but they must be gutted not to have secured all three points from this match. It will not happen too often that a centre half scores three for us. Lastly was Jupp blinded by the sun for the fourth goal? He was wearing a cap against Kettering but not today.

So many poor errors from the Saints today. So frustrating to watch them throw away a two goal lead against ten men. Such poor and calamitous defending at times. I imagine that Howell will be absolutely livid about the nature of every goal conceded today. We didn't seem to turn up until about 15 or 20 minutes in but after that there was some good attacking play in parts and it has to be said that when we do get the ball down we look good. But defensive shambles is right, St Michael. Extremely frustrating to watch.

Frustrating result from a game where we should have had 3 points in the bag but once again we let a lead slip.
For the first 20 minutes I couldn't see us scoring today, as we were just not at the races. Excellent play at times after the first 20 minutes of the game until about 15 minutes from the end. Made good use of the wide players at times today. I actually think the game turned on the 2nd missed penalty but why oh why didn't someone else take it, so soon after the previous penalty? At 4-3 with only a couple of minutes to go, it was obvious they were going to push all their tall players forward at any opportunity, as they had nothing to lose. Once again poor defending let us down, having got ourselves back into the lead.
Have we actually played to same back four in consecutive games this season ? Poor defending can't be excused but I do wonder if a constantly changing defence is contibuting to the problem ?

Lastly was Jupp blinded by the sun for the fourth goal? He was wearing a cap against Kettering but not today. He walked off the pitch at the end of the game carrying a cap in his hand.

You could probably call it entertaining, especially for the neutral but I would say 'wonderful' is stretching it, somewhat. We did indeed play very well in patches but I don't think you could describe our defending as anything other than shocking today and something really does need to be done about it. Towers gave us problems down the right the whole afternoon but then again, when has it ever been different when Towers has faced us. It is evident that he is capable of playing at a good deal higher level than the Evo-Stik Southern Premier.
I have to agree with yellowfox about the penalty. Hyde was always going to put it the same side and perhaps it might have been more sensible for Toomey or Shields to have taken the second one but then again, hindsight is a wonderful thing, I guess.
Finishing 4-4 after being 4-2 up against 10 men was very hard to take today; it really did feel like 2 points thrown away. Still, onwards and upwards to St. Neots next week in a game which will be every bit as hard as today and possibly harder. Their away record is superb but their home record is not good (2 wins and 3 losses from 5) so let's hope we can put today's game to back of our minds and return to winning ways.

Some people were saying it urned when Hayles came on for Henry but i think we were worthy of the win today and they were a bit lucky, happy with most of what the twam did today conceded some soft goals again but overall the last two games we have played well after a couple of disappointing performances. Hyde should of gone the other side for the second pen as the keeper was always going to go the same way as the first pen ! I think all the teams in the play off places will be there or abouts at the end of the season. I was told on Tuesday the team played with confidence after 2 defeats. Today apart from a couple of spells I saw little of that. Defending was poor and I think this got through to Nick Jupp who since I have been supporting St. Albans (18 months) has been the most consistent player. When is Gray going to ready? Anyone know?

I see that Adam Everitt has been transfer listed by Eastleigh, also Hector Mackie has been dual registered with Harlow. Gray is at least a good leader on the pitch I suppose, although I can't see him playing at Conference South level, but why are we not signing younger players who have played well at a higher level, like Jordan Parkes (ex-Watford) whom Hemel have just brought in from Chelmsford ? Hemel also brought in Matt Nolan, pre-season,a tough and awkward striker, about 30, who leads the line very well and consistently scores goals, he would have been good alongside Toomey.
I suppose it is all money ?

Everitt would be a good signing, he was with us pre-season but decided to stay in the Conf South, which is fair enough
