As Ballito's had a sports ground there before, and the nearest houses are a comfortable distance away - with Glinwells nurseries inbetween - I don't think that local residents have too much to complain about! Ellenbrook residents living opposite the Uni's all-weather pitches were appeased when the Council arranged for their floodlights to be turned off at 9.30pm. Furthermore, the club should use one of the Uni's or Oaklands College all-weather pitches to train on. More car parking is required to support the conference / clubhouse facilities and match day use.

I may be wrong here but I thought the proposed site is north of Smallford Farm and south of the Alban Way. maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=AL4+0TP&ie=UTF-8Wasn't the old Ballito Sports ground north of the Alban Way, adjacent Butterwick Brook and going back from the Hatfield Road, between Glinwell Nurseries and Glyn Hopkin, the Nissan dealer?

Not withstanding the issues for the football club, I'm none too pleased with any proposed development on green belt land. If I lived in the area, I would be most upset. Strikes me that the proposed new ground is just a vehicle to carry the development through.

Who cares what the local residents think. The council is elected to represent all the people within their jurisdiction not the privileged few who happen to live near the park itself.
The current ground can be modestly redeveloped without destroying the park or de-valuing anyone's property. However, for me the best option is to move elsewhere and build a new stadium with excellent facilities that can generate income and be shared by the community.

Hopefully our owners are a bit more clued up. Appalling deal to agree on. No £ from any of the off field revenues. Hotel, casino, gigs, everything bar the match day admission fee goes out of the football club.
Maidstone utd seem to be doing very well though

Well hopefully providing our proposal stays the same as it was when we were looking at Colney Heath, people may see that as a happy medium.

Blimey - Thats a curve ball if ever there was one!
Residents would certainly prefer a football pitch(es) to a railfreight terminus.
I just cant see the finances adding up without housing too. (Which St Albans has been told it needs). BUT it is green belt land.
Look forward to seeing the detail.

I think this is a picture of the proposed site. More than we need in terms of room plenty of room for housing too. I guess the real issue will be the location within St.Albans, not from a transport point of view as there are three stations Park street, How wood and Radlett. It's just off the M25 and there is bus service in place. Although still classed in the St.Albans area it's on the outskirts of St.Albans, but that was the same with the Colney Heath site. I honestly don't know the answer that would keep everyone happy. When I think about all the vacant plots of land and greenbelt. There is none in the centre of the St.Albans area.
Edit: I retract my previous statement about location upon discovering this.
I took a postcode from the centre of St.Albans to Colney Heath FC and although not the exact site, it was the closest postcode I could find. I put it into AA route planner it works out about 5 miles.
Did the same for this new proposed site near Frogmore is actually only 4 miles from the town centre which surprised me.
I took it from the town centre as it's the only fair way of determining which is closer as I don't know where the vast majority of supporters live.

The key point to remember with new grounds is who makes the money and who owns it. In Morecambe the owners decided to selll Christie Pk - a centrally located ground near train and bus routes to move further out. They sold there old ground to Sainsbury's and used the money to build a tidy new stadium - completely away from any transport connections. Result - even less people go - 1,400 for the last game when they were 6th in the league. They have no money now and have just sold a bit of the land outside the entrance to build a pub. There will likely not be any extra people going to a new St Albans ground at this new location - the money will go to the building developers if anyone. Do we really want to give up the present site and location and links - I'd rather we put the effort into invest where we are rather than have another soulless, historyless retail estate ground www.footballgroundguide.com/morecambe/

Dont think that becoming Park St StAlbans is a great idea. There are poor transport facilities to the site making car transport even more important, Sounds like a project that a previous owner mr Gibson, suggested, and it would be a massive development-nearly 300 acres. Also, how long would it all take? Strange days ahead methinks.

I've been quite lucky when it comes to traveling to Clarence Park to see St.Albans, as I live in the Jersey Farm area. So I don't mind having to do a bit of traveling for a change. Clearly where ever we move to it's gonna involve traveling. There just isn't land to build on in St.Albans. We are going to have to accept that if we move, traveling is gonna be a part and parcel of watching the Mighty Saints. The problem we have is CP sadly isn't a viable option anymore and it's financially crippling us. My maximum traveling distance would be 5 miles from the city centre, which both the proposed sites fall under. I don't know what the answer is nor can I think of any green belt that is closer. All I do know is staying at CP isn't an option.
I don't want to go back to the days of changing owners because they come in and run out of money. I want some stability for the club so we don't have to constantly worry about off field matters. Stability trust and patience so far has worked out well. We have started to develop a proper squad that plays attractive football and the managers have been give time and space to get on with their jobs.
Youth wise we have never been in a better position and hopefully all these relationships we are creating will pay dividends in the future.

The Colney Heath Lane site is 2.7 miles from the City Centre and the Frogmore site is 3.2 miles from the City Centre.

The Colney Heath Lane site is 2.7 miles from the City Centre and the Frogmore site is 3.2 miles from the City Centre. It's not just the extra distance, it's a horrible place to get to, crossing the A414 can be a nightmare. I could just about imaging jumping on a bus at the station and heading out to Colney Heath Lane but not to Frogmore.

Would be a nightmare to get there if the M25 was shut.

St Albans City Fc have secured upto 17 million pounds to build new stadium on the Radlett site. Also 6000 new homes to be built.
