St Albans City Fc have secured upto 17 million pounds to build new stadium on the Radlett site. Also 6000 new homes to be built. It might be on the old Radlett (Handley Page) Aerodrome site but it is over 4 miles away from Radlett. The propeosed site is only a shade over a mile from the old M10 (A414) roundabout.

Looking at the map, this site is even bigger than I thought. It must be close on the size of London Colney. I wonder what the possibilities would be of building/reopening the old Napsbury railway station to service the development, since it looks to be on the actual site boundary. It could also service the recent Napsbury Park development. Cue oldgeezer. www.pastscape.org/maps.aspx?a=0&hob_id=501197&mv=s

Considering we have a housing shortage in this area then this wouldn't be a bad idea, even if it is green belt, you could leave a significant sized area of green land with it
Isn't the £17M to buy the land?
I was thinking the same about the old Napsbury station as well, it would take some pressure off the City station and give London Colney and the new deveolpment a station as well as making the ground more accessable
If the club is savvy they could be the owners of shops / pubs etc in the new devolpment (I'm sure McGowen will have his eye on a pub)

You could be right EFMTFTV. The statement is a bit ambiguous. However, whatever way this goes someone is going to have to come up with at least 500mill£ to build everything. Don't know what the cost of the alternate proposal/ rail site was. Council only value the land at£ 1.7 million. got that wrong. Anyway, a development of this proposed size is going to be a long time coming to fruition. We may be back in Conference by then!

I bet the locals who were against the rail depot are over the moon and thinking how much better a local football ground and 6000 houses are than rail depot, Don,t see them putting up a fight.

Yes ,what a great idea just hand the club over to the fans . I can just see the trust running the club. Everything will be open and transparent like it should be. We would never have to worry again about our club.

I suggest we all refrain from turning this into a thread about the trust, and keep it on the topic of the proposed stadium! ;D

Seems a good idea to keep this on the topic of the new stadium, Maybe there should be a thread on the subject of the way the trust is run. I am sure there is plenty of topics that fans would like to bring up and maybe by having a thread on here more people will come forward on a match day to help the club. Its not about running the trust down

I was quite impressed with St Neots new ground and clubhouse. Much smaller scale than St Albans are looking at, but it fitted well in the new housing estate with new shops and school nearby. Only thing I thought odd was that the houses and flats were squashed in like sardines with so much empty land just outside the estate.

I hope the new ground will be designed in a similar way to Burtons / Kidderminsters ground and not Similar to Bishop Stortfords ground. If we do actually have ambitions of being in the football league, we need a ground to match.
Yes i've grown up with Clarence Park and have very fond memories but times change and it certainly is time to move on.
Arsenal to The Emirates, Man City to City Of Manchester Stadium etc etc

It's moments like these that I miss AFF. His musings on a football ground on the Park Street roundabout could at times be almost poetic.

Out of interest, what is the general opinion on Saints moving to another ground a little further out of town?
I understand the financial benefits or either tying up with a housing development or retail park. With the right stadium, Saints could aspire to follow Stevenage into the league.
However, I must admit that one of the things that attracted me to Saints is Clarence Park. It's a lovely place to watch football. Okay, so the view from the seats in the main stand is not great and it would be nice if there as a bit of cover on at least one of the ends, but it's a great little place.
So what's the general feeling? Stay -- and accept the limitations -- or go, if it was possible?

So what's the general feeling? Stay -- and accept the limitations -- or go, if it was possible? It would appear that a majority of City fans reluctantly prefer a move away from CP (there's a survey somewhere) as in theory extra finance will enable City to progress up the leagues without relying on a "sugar daddy". I personally would prefer to stay at CP (for the reasons you stated) and maybe "yo-yo" between divisions in the Conference, but even I realise this could prove difficult given the financial restrictions. As for emulating Stevenage, I just cannot see that happening as the interest in the football club within St Albans does just not exist. (the Mansfield crowd is unlikely to be matched week in, week out). Even crowds at Stevenage have never reached particularly dizzy heights considering their success. It will be interesting to see how their attendances hold up if they continue their current downward direction. So, put me down as a don't know. I expect if City do move to Park Street I shall go to less (or no) games a season because the extra miles to travel from my home in North Hertfordshire may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
