Just wondered if we're likely to hear any more about any of the options mooted this season. Are there things going on behind the scenes? If so, any timescales for news updates?

There will definitely be discussions going on in the back ground, and I think there may have been a Clarence Park community meeting not so long ago which I suspect the club attended.
Timescales? Honestly, we probably wont hear much during the off season as the majority of the activity in the club, I imagine, will be based around preparing for our first season back in the Conference South.

Thanks Saint. It'd be good to have an update to tell us what's progressing (or not) on a regular basis. Hope the 'on-field' preparations are continuing to go well though.

Seems they are over Bountygate?! A friend started watching American football this year and decided early on to support the Seahawks. Which is annoying. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nene_Park - potential for more cheap stadium equipment, slightly closer to home?

Can we please just move to Nene Park - its a perfect ready made facility - Coventry have survived playing away from home?

theduke, no you're not. I have no right to have as strong an opinion about the long-term future of the club as most posters here, but part of the appeal of watching Saints is Clarence Park.
I gradually fell out of love with League football because of the homogenisation of the experience. All grounds have been redeveloped so the concourses are concrete, the stands are the same, although the seats are a different colour. The eradication of the game's physical history has made it less appealing. Visiting dreary all-seater stadia that all feel the same (Pride Park Derby, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Coventry may as well have been the same place) became unenjoyable.
Non-League football restores a lot of that. Visiting Arlesey, Burnham, Banbury, Bashley, Chesham, Histon and a couple of others last year was always interesting. There was variety. Each place had a character of its own and, having been promoted, I am looking forward to Boreham Wood, Bishop's Stortford, Staines and so on to see what they are like.
The idea of Saints moving to Radlett or Colney Heath and playing in a yellow and blue Lego set next door to Ikea would be a turn-off. Yes, I know the economic realities and that the club may struggle to attain Conference football without a new ground but going back to the early 90s, I've always enjoyed visiting Clarence Park and that is a significant part of my decision to adopt Saints as 'my' non-League team back in the autumn.

Can we please just move to Nene Park - its a perfect ready made facility - Coventry have survived playing away from home? Coventry City have barely survived full stop. In the early part of this season there were more Coventry fans outside Sixfields than inside. Their average attendance for the past five years: 2009/10: 17,295 (CH) 2010/11: 16,310 (CH) 2011/12: 14,684 (L1) 2012/13: 10,864 (L1) 2013/14: 2,348 (L1) Their 10 lowest home attendances have all come this past sesaon: www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/coventry-city-attendance-figures-hit-6886802As a football club they are still in financial disarray with the owners SISU putting the subsidiary holding-company into administration and then selling the club to another subsidiary. You can find out more on the financial situation of Coventry here: twohundredpercent.net/?p=25537 but suffice to say that in the year up to June 2013, the club lost £7m and have yet to honour the £1.6m payment involved with the move to Sixfields. Their future is less than rosy and I wouldn't put much money on them not ending up in the Conference in the next few years.

Am I alone in wanting to stay at Clarence Park? Not at all. I'd love the club to stay at Clarence Park and I'll be trying another six numbers this evening to see if I can win enough cash to ensure that happens. I've picked the wrong numbers for the past 20 years so don't hold your breath...

I love Clarence Park because of it's setting and charm. However, if the club wants to progress it'll never be at 'the Park' (and yes, I know, we had a whole season in the Conference Premier!). It'll need lots of money just to keep it at the minimum standards. I know a new ground on the 'outskirts' of St. Albans is a gamble but unless we're all satisfied with Saints playing in the lower leagues, it has got to be made. Quite simply, it's either one or the other. Interestingly, how many other teams at our level play in a public park?

Manchester City's ground is council owned - though I'm not sure if that counts as a public park.

I think I speak for most when I say that in a ideal world a redevolped Clarence Park that makes the club self-sufficent would be the best solution, our proximity to the station should be exploited But this always seems unlikely so a new ground it is, where we build it though is another question all together

We need to get this issue resolved asap.
Council need to actually get behind the club rather than dragging their feet.
As the away support at Chesham shows, we are a sleeping giant.

The council have been dragging their feet over a new ground for the last 20 odd years! All very well the Mayoress and a few councillors turning up for the big games, but do they really want the Club to progress?
I feel the best way forward is a redeveloped Clarence Park, with new stand, more cover and proper bar/function room facilities! Put the plans in and then see what the Council/Residents reaction is!

We cannot progress with CP as it stands.
We cannot expect the current owners to continually bankroll the team.
Something needs to be done.
I think the council won't do anything to assist us. The councillors main concern is picking up their tax exempt salaries.

That's not quite how it works though, is it? Residents said no to the King Harry Lane development, and billions of other developments, but look what happens. Euclid makes a good point - maybe we should start formulating plans and submit them, then see what happens. The worst we can hope for is constructive feedback, isn't it? Also, and my planning policy knowledge is a little out of date, does anyone know the rules on making submission after submission, assuming each is rejected?

We cannot progress with CP as it stands. We cannot expect the current owners to continually bankroll the team. Spot on. We are all aware the CP is a fantastic setting and has great history but regardless of any redevelopment, new stands, more cover and proper bar/function room facilities etc., it will only ever be viable if we are playing a level akin to either the Calor League Division 1 Central or the Ryman League Division 1 North, if we are relying solely on gate receipts and a moderate return on commercial activities. Anything higher is just not realistic. I love CP as much as everyone else but if we are to progress, I am sorry to say that there is only one solution.

You only have to look at the type of residents we are up against if we wish to develop Clarence Park. Most are not even from St. Albans originally. Take for instance the "Clarence Park Under Threat" Facebook page! The person who set up this group happens to be from Bolton and is a Spurs fan....classic Nimby!!
