City denied a penalty, while Whitely's shot is saved by the GK.

FT: 1-5.
It all got a bit heated towards the end, with Comley involved in an off the pitch incident, but only yellow cards shown.

That was the best all-round display for a good couple of months and hopefully will boost confidence throughout the team going into the final 2/3/4 games.
The very early goal settled us down and allowed us to get on top, despite Banbury's equaliser, which came after some pretty ordinary defending.
The second half was one-way traffic really and Banbury fell apart a bit, but take nothing away from Saints, they kept pushing forward and created a lot of chances.
Bastock made two blinding saves, one in the first half, one in the second, just before we broke away, covering the full length of the pitch before Frendo's back heel set Comley up for a lovely little chip.
There was a lot more to feel positive about. Chappell and Hall were both very good at full back (although what's happened to Kerrea Gilbert, has he been let go?) Ward and Locke both looked good at the heart of the back four. But it was in midfield where the game was won. Marwa played better than he has done for a long while, breaking everything up and using the ball well. Comley imposed himself on the game much more than in recent weeks and put in a real captain's performance. Corcoran had the best game I've seen from him and he is starting to look good, and Wales is the sort of player who inspires confidence. He's big, strong, can pass, shoot and tackle.
Up front Frendo's first goal was a great piece of control and an even better strike. I felt for Sykes a bit. He was full of running and he missed half a dozen very good chances.
It could have been more than 5 but let's not get carried away. I suspect Biggleswade will be tougher on Monday. Win that and we can start thinking about the play-offs.

Monday squeaky bum time...Stourbridge and Poole have what look like pretty easy game????Hungerford managed a draw at Chippenham recently and may have a tougher game..Tough Game for Saints too. I think it will definitely be resolved on the final games next Saturday....

Agree with what you say cconvert. Sykes could have had 5 , the scoreline did not flatter us, but need to tighten upat back as again dont defend at a corner.Banbury had too many chances. Fracas at the end all down to Banbury player. dont know what he had in mind. Stupid. as was the collective joining in including Bazza running to halfway line. Created chances today- at last got a bit of confidence going into last games. Still not wide enough-Henry would have been ideal today down the wing at the end. Would also have been good game for James K , but at least we had a decent looking bench. Corcoran? Coms!!! Still at it! Good away support again making plenty of noise and giving the Puritans goalie some stick which he took in his stride . He made several great saves IMO and was applauded off the field and even shook hands with some of our fans. great run their and back. Moe of the same Monday and a big crowd to cheer us on. COYS

And lino clearly flagging for a penalty for us so why not given? Another poor ref methinks

Ref clearly disagreed with the decision. It was very light contact, and really, Whitely should have scored anyway.

Agree with what others have said. Thought we looked a little tense early on, but we started to play with much more confidence and use the ball more intelligently in the second half - hopefully the confidence is coming back at the right time. I too felt for Sykes - he's clearly a good player, gets into good positions; just one of those days when they don't hit he target.

Bizarre game in a way. A good win, however main talking points seem to be (1) another poor ref for both sides & (2) we should have scored a lot more. Pressure on all round, as all of the top 7 seem to be winning. Someone tends to choke at the end of the season, here's hoping that our confidence is back. Well done & more of the same please...

Sykes, away from his finishing, was excellent in his general all round play, and deserved a goal.

Absolutely. Just reviewed what I said about Sykes and didn't want it to sound like criticism. He was excellent in almost everything he did and it's an old cliche but you have to get into position to miss them.
He's a good foil for Frendo too.
I do think that Gray and Golds are using the squad quite well of late. For example, Whitely was the right player to pick to lead the line on his own at Hemel and today Sykes was the right choice to go alongside Frendo. I hope they stick with them for the Biggleswade game.
Does anyone know what's happened to Gilbert? Is he still with us? Resting? Unavailable? Released?
When did he last play? I would check the club website but the results haven't been updated since Burnham.

Gilbert was just left out of the squad today, but could well be back in for Monday.
Gray and Golds have clearly felt that Hall has been the right man for the job since Gilbert's last appearance (Vs Hemel)

Good to see the boys step up to the plate today after some disapointing performances lately in what was a crunch game, for me this was the game/win that will secure us a play off spot.
And fair play to Banbury Admission: Adults £9, Over 60s and Students £5, Under 16s £1. Free to sit in stand
All the best to them next season whether we're in the same division or not

Agree with a lot that has been written on here already. Special mention to George Sykes though, who I think will become a fans favourite. He worked his socks off today and was always in the right place. Yes he missed a few very good chances but on Monday he will score a hatrick with his movement, determination and positional play. COYS I think today was very telling and it may well be that where teams are will be finishing positions. Away at Cambridge followed by away at Chesham will provide brilliant away support games that will spur us on to promotion IMO. Only complaint is what about James K?? cant understand why he is not getting a look in. Banbury were dire, luckily, otherwise on that bobbly pitch that, in the most, you couldn't play decent football on we played all our ball playing midfielders, Coms, Ram, Cockers, and Walesey. It worked because of the opposition but if we are planning on playing the same midfield on Monday are the St Albans fire brigade on standby to dose the pitch on Sunday night? Get James K in the team!

Its a pity that the Hemel Chesham game is nowof little meaning as both are safe in their position so for hemel two celebrations coming up and Chesham can rest up players if needed, before the playoffs. We still need two wins. Two cup finals followed , hopefully , by two cup finals

After Hungerford's big defeat any decent win tomorrow ie by a couple or three goals should secure a play off berth

Great win yesterday but I suspect tomorrow will be much closer. Great to see Frendo scoring goals again. Early goal required against Biggleswade.
