Another busy day on the transfer front.
So, James Kaloczi is going back to Wingate & Finchley on loan for another couple of months.
In come: Omar Beckles from Hornchurch. Did anyone see him play against Cheshunt? Come on; one of the Famous 57 must be able to tell us what Beckles is like. I assume he'll play centre half?
Ian Gayle is the latest loanee from Dagenham & Redbridge. A defender, but does anyone know his favoured position?
And a Luton midfielder Charlie Smith, a midfielder, has joined on loan.
Interesting to see the management recruit again following the recent poor run.

SAINTS SQUAD SHAKE-UP Written by Webbo
Joint Managers James Gray and Graham Golds are pleased to announce that the Saints defensive options have been increased with the recruitment of Ian Gayle on a one month loan from Dagenham & Redbridge and the permanent signing of 22 year old centre-half Omar Beckles from AFC Hornchurch.
At the same time, dynamic and well thought of midfielder Charlie Smith (right) has joined on youth loan from Luton Town.
Saintsnet welcomes all three players to Clarence Park.
It has been a busy morning at the Club as James Kaloczi has returned to Wingate & Finchley FC for a further two month loan period.

Beckles looked good at centre-half against Cheshunt, but it was a game where he had loads of time on the ball and didn't have to do too much.

Giant Geoff unceremoniously dumps Saints for Canvey IslandMichael Edwards Striker heads to the coast on a wave of controversy Geoff Mitchell has left St Albans City thin at the striker position after a shock exit. Mitchell, who only signed for the Saints at the start of September, has joined Ryman Premier Division side Canvey Island to replace John Sands, Chelmsford City’s newest acquisition. The move, which was announced by Canvey on Twitter, left City’s management stunned and when asked about it, joint manager James Gray simply said: “He’s gone and I’d rather not talk about it.” The Herts Ad understands that the 6’5 forward told his new club he’d been released, which he had not, and therefore no approach was made to St Albans about the move. However it happened, City will now move forward with John Frendo and loanee Joel Nouble as their strike force. www.hertsad.co.uk/sport/football/giant_geoff_unceremoniously_dumps_saints_for_canvey_island_1_3852289

Good news for Saints. Could this be a replacement for Frendo?

A replacement? I very much doubt it. Like suggested above, I think he'll play some role in partnering him upfront.
A change of formation, perhaps?

I guess we'll see. I certainly think Frendo needs to start scoring a few goals. It'd be good if they both score tomorrow. I went to the Bath game away and the team will need to play 100 times better. Fingers crossed.

Tomorrow's match may be a bit early for Lancaster, but it'd be good to see Nouble start alongside Frendo if he's still around.

It would be good to see Frendo get a goal in open play - he's still getting into the right positions but his final touch is letting him down. Therefore (football cliche to now follow...), a goal could make all the difference....

Geoff Mitchell released by Canvey after 3 games. Grass isn't always greener eh?

Worrying thing was it took them only 3 games to realise he was poo poo whereas our managers still wanted him after we'd come to the same conclusion as Canvey after the same amount of games

Ben Martin gone (as announced on other thread).
I guess that Ben was one of our better paid players. Will be interesting to see if the replacement (if there is one) will be of the quality to be at the top end of the club's wage scale.
Will Wood have paid some kind of transfer fee for him?

By the wording of the statement, and that it was a 7 day approach, Wood probably didn't pay a free sadly. (I don't believe he was on contract? Happy to be proven wrong though.)

As I said to people yesterday after all his talk about trying hard and caring and the players being approachable in the bar after games to discuss the games with (most of us know what happened last time a player was criticised in the bar after a game !) he jumped ship pretty damn quick given the chance !!! www.stalbansreview.co.uk/sport/11663669.Wood_capture_St_Albans_captain/?ref=rssAs Boomer said a 7 day approach is for players not on contracts I would imagine all our players on contracts are younger one's, I very much doubt the wooood would of wanted Ben if he was on a contract what with his age.

I think only Frendo, Comley and *shudder* Pires are on contacts although I wouldn't be surprised if Chaps and Welch were as well

Will be a tough player to replace.
Always a threat at set pieces and a leader on the pitch.
