As a moderator I should really be encouraging this thread to return to the topic but I'm enjoying this too much. You just need to handle with care.

We need to make sure we stay there now. Build on the squad but keep the majority.

Given the context, outstanding play off victory and the success he has generated in his period in charge, I can understand James Grey's comments but I cannot help but think there a bit optimistic. Everyone involved with the club should take pride in our achievements this season and I not trying to emulate my near namesake (sideshowbob) but in the final analysis we only averaged 1.93 points a game last season and finished 17 points behind Hemel. We won the playoff and thus deserved to go up but taking the season as a totality we looked like a good southern league team not a side who clearly belonged in a higher division (as Hemel did). In a lot home games this season we did not look palpably superior to midtable opposition. I not suggesting the squad needs a complete overhaul but if we are to secure a mid table finish then i think we need to let some of our more marginal players go and bring in another 4-5 players who are proven at Southern Conference level. Obviously, this means a higher wage bill (its easy to spend other peoples money) and it not particularly pleasant to 'reward' players for achieving promotion by effectively sacking them but I think we will struggle with our present squad. On a partially related note I notice that several clubs in the southern conference charge 13 quid (may be higher in 2014-15 season), given we are among the (the most?) expensive in the calor league I assume we follow a similar policy in the conference. I accept this if the playing budget is also increased (actually given that there will be fewer midweek games) I might go for a season ticket.

Have to agree with you Bob. On the back of the excellent 13/14 season, the first task should be to stay in the league. We had 2 fantastic cup runs which helped the budgets this season. I hope that we don't return to the unrealistic budgeting that led to the mid-season 20% ticket price hike. As for the players, I'm pretty sure we already have a competitive conference south side. I'd also like to see some of the younger players develop & get more game time. The likes of Kaloczi & Bailey could easily be regulars by the end of the season. A better standard of league could also suit the open, passing playing style of the side. As you say, some 'nouse' will be needed, as I suspect sides won't led individual players dominate games... A fascinating summer & 14/15 season awaits...

well said, the 4 games i saw hemel they certainly didn't look like a side who 'belonged' in a higher division.

But another way of looking at is that in last 12 games we only managed 1.75 points a game. So the anomaly is not the beginning but the mid part of the season were, taking confidence from the cups, we played at a unsustainable high level and looked like a championship side. Throughout most of the season we simply looked like a upper mid table side with the expectational mid season run being the anomaly. Ram has been a great signing and what the players/ management have achieved is fantastic, I am grateful to all concerned but still think the team will struggle without 4-5 high quality signings. Like I say I be happy to pay a bit more to watch better players

Excellent news about all 3 signings. Hopefully more to come but to get these sorted so early is very promising. I think the Wealdstone fans on the Conference South forum have met their match!!

Lee Clarke only managed 7 goals in 35 matches for Welling last year. However he is not 31 until July so should have a couple of good years left in him. He should act as a good foil with John Frendo, possibly playing just behind, pretty much as Rooney at Man U.

He's more of a central midfield based player now, and in all comps scored 10 goals from that position last season (According to a Welling fan I spoke to) which isn't half bad for that level, and it's probably quite a few more goals than most of our midfielders!

He's played in Central mid now for a few seasons, on fact it was Colin Lippiat that started him there in the Conf season and he's remained there pretty much ever since mainly That's a good record from midfeild

His record for Welling (All from central midfield) is 48 goals in 146 appearances.

Also, a player we may have missed being with us for next season is Tom Ward who signed a 18 month contract last Christmas
So that's: Lee Chappell Tom Ward Lee Clarke John Frendo
Already the nucleus of a good side

Not a bad return. 79 goals from 196 games with the Saints, first time around.

Great news.
Adds yet another winner to this side, only 12 months ago he was lifting the Conference South title as captain of Welling.

An excellent addition to the squad & it is great to see Lee back at the saints. The guy who led Welling to the conference, played 2 seasons of conference football & scored THAT goal against Weymouth. Versatile & experienced, can score & create from midfield. It looks like a really strong spine to the team is developing.
Am I right in thinking that Ram is off? Think James Gray mentioned it in his post match interview v Chesham. He will be very hard to replace, could be time for James Kaloczi to step up? Personally I think he has so much potential...

James and Graham will be speaking to Ram soon. Ram's family may be moving abroad, but nothing is confirmed yet, and as such, they'll be having chats about his future. (From what I gather)
