A comparison in other European leagues....Bayern Munich.Cheapest ticket £11.75..Real Madrid.£18.80..Paris St.Germain £11.75 Makes you think about the charge at Clarence Park? ? Not that many years ago Manchester United were amongst the cheapest clubs in the premier league to watch, if you could get a ticket. They were even cheaper than some Championship clubs. Then along came the Glazers. The prospectus for the sale of 12 million shares (at $17 each!) late his summer included the boast that they have put up prices by over 4% per annum: “Between the 2005-06 season [the first after their takeover] and the 2013-14 season,” the prospectus says, “the weighted average general admission ticket prices for our Premier League matches played at Old Trafford increased at a compound annual growth rate of 4.4%.” [ David Conn, Guardian, 20 Aug 14] Real Madrid are $600 million in debt. Man Utd are $350 million in debt (perhaps that prompted the above share issue). Bayern Munich are a fan-owned company who can never be sold to a foreign (or even German) asset-stripper. Bundesliga pricing is geared to always having very cheap sections of the ground for the "ordinary fan" and very expensive VIP seat for the wealthy. One thing that the German fans will always enjoy over us, as well as low admission charges, is the advantage that the majority of Bundesliga tickets include free public transport to and from the game. Go to Berlin and a ticket to see Hertha at the Olympic Stadium includes return tram/bus journey from anywhere in the city to the ground. There are a number of issues I always have with the annual BBC comparison and one of the major ones is context. To compare any English football club's charges with clubs from other countries is disingenuous. Its also difficult to compare clubs in the same division because the cost of admission is always driven by income and expenditure. If you are a club like, for example, Fleetwood Town who have had £15 million ploughed in over the past 10 years, then you can probably afford to charge the lowest for a season ticket, lower than all but two of the clubs in the division below. The BBC's headline " Cod Army as cheap as chips" conveniently ignores the fortune that the Fleetwood chairman has invested in the club's success. The admission charge increase at Clarence Park is completely unrelated to anything that forms part of the BBC's survey and isn't comparable to any Football League club. It is purely down to the relationship between the costs of running the club in the Conference South and the amount that the owners are prepared to subsidise the club by. I'm not defending the increase or suggesting that the questions have been answered. What I am saying is that if we as a fanbase want to know why it costs £15 to get into Clarence Park for a St Albans City league game then we need to ask the right person the question. And as far as I can tell, despite the criticisms here and in the local paper, nobody has actually done that. Nick Archer is usually a marshall for the Herts 10K. I don't know for sure if he was or not this year but if anyone on here ran it, did you stop to ask him why there has been a £3 increase this season? Lawrence Levy is usually glad-handing his way around the start/finish line so did anyone corner him to demand the budget details are released?

The chairman and owner(s) are regularly at Clarence Park, and will happily answer questions from any fan. Posting enquiries on here do have some effect, and are some times seen by the club, but because we're not officially associated with the club, getting questions answered can be difficult.
The price rise, as I think most will accept, was too much, but if you'd like to actually ask the owners and chairman a question, then just approach them on a match day. That's one of the great advantages of non-league football.

You think that if the owners or chairman were approached on match day and asked why there had been a 50% increase in ticket prices in the last couple of years, an insightful answer would be given?
Do you also think, yellowalf, that someone halfway through running 6.2 miles (probably for charity) would be keeping an eye out for the chairman as a marshall so they could stop and ask the same?
Maybe stanj wasn't looking for an answer from the owners or chairman...

(Not talking about you personally) Someone wanting answers would have more luck asking them in person, then anonymously on this forum. (Which is a shame, as we feel that this forum plays an important part, but there's not much we can do about that) Is what I was suggesting on the whole.

Sorry, yes Saint, I know what you meant. I wonder whether some people post things on this forum not expecting an answer but instead stimulating debate and discussion (when it comes to the chairman / owners) or airing their grievances?!

No, I don`t expect an answer from the owners. or anyone in particular, but as stated above, it is a chance for discussion and debate...I haven`t gone into what the other Football clubs charge in the football league. It would be interesting however if those who live in St.Albans but tend to go to support teams such as Arsenal or Chelsea etc, would think it worthwhile visiting the Saints more often? Regretfully I live 230 miles away and my age is bordering on the doddering stage, however St.Albans is and always has been my number one club..
Cheers, Stan

Do you also think, yellowalf, that someone halfway through running 6.2 miles (probably for charity) would be keeping an eye out for the chairman as a marshall so they could stop and ask the same? Plenty of them were walking the event and the Chairman was available before and after the race. It was just a suggestion that if the availability of the owners is difficult for some to catch, then there are other opportunities. And it wasn't aimed at stanj, it was for anyone who feels they need a question answered can ask...

I notice in those listings that Watford's cheapest ticket was only £14

I not complaining but was any rationale given for reducing the price for the F.A Cup game? Given that it was against a Conference North side it does seem obvious why it should be cheaper than a standard league match- could it be seen as at least a implicit admission that 15 quid is a mistake? Also 607 was a really good crowd given that we did not artificially inflate the attendance by letting a load of parents/kids in for a token amount. Was that a product of competition (FA Cup) or evidence that £15 is impacting on attendance?
One thing the prices quoted above tend to overstate the relative price of SAFC. I when on Watford website and the cheapest ticket I could find (not in the family section) for the next home game was £26. I not suggesting there are never any tickets for Watford at £14 but that in practice you will pay considerably more for most games.

Whether it is right or wrong I don't know but I was told that with F. A. Cup games, the entrance admission price is agreed and set by the two clubs involved.

Someone mentioned earlier that any replay ticket prices need to be the same as the original game. So maybe Brackley knocked a bit of sense into the owners / chairman on this one, hopefully Concord do the same!

Must've missed that one. Cheers Concord!
It has been mentioned that there is a lack of family tickets due to FA rules. However Chelmsford (to use one example) are offering a family ticket for their tie with Barnet...

Section 20 of the FA Cup Rules 2014-2015: (c) (i) Qualifying Competition Immediately after the draw is known, the two Clubs concerned must mutually agree the prices of admission subject to the following conditions. Except where mutually agreed otherwise the minimum admission (except to children and senior citizens) to matches shall be: In the Extra-Preliminary, Preliminary and First Round Qualifying: £3.00 In the Second and Third Rounds Qualifying: £5.00 In the Fourth Round Qualifying: £6.00 A higher admission charge may be mutually agreed between the Clubs concerned. The away Club’s spectators can only be charged more than the home Club’s spectators if agreed by both Clubs. The price of admission for children and senior citizens must be mutually agreed between the Clubs concerned. (c) (iii) Season tickets Each Club participating in the competition is to advise The Association in writing by 31 August in the year of the Competition whether their season tickets entitle the holder to attend Challenge Cup matches. In addition those clubs that include admission to Challenge Cup matches within the cost of the season ticket are also to advise The Association of the total value (including VAT) and number of the Club’s season ticket sales for that season. Any season ticket sales after 31 August are to be advised to The Association. Those Clubs that include admission to Challenge Cup matches within the cost of the season ticket are to include in match receipts reported on the Statement of Receipts and Payments Forms the total value of season ticket sales divided by the maximum number of matches that the season ticket holder is entitled to attend during the season for all Competitions. Downloadable as pdf from: www.thefa.com/thefacup/more/rulesI would expect all our home Cup games this season against non-league opposition (if there are to be any more) to be set at £12 as the opposition is unlikely to agree to a £15 admission charge for their fans. Unless its Bristol Rovers for whom £15 is a bargain!

Perhaps Chelmsford were able to mutually agree a family ticket with Barnet? I wonder why the opposition would be unlikely to agree to a £15 admission charge, yellowalf

Our admission charges are higher than most (if not all) of the teams in our division and below. Why would any opposition club agree to a price increase for their fans?
