So, whose going to be paying a tenner to see Dagenham and Redbridge youth team tomorrow? Hopefully no-one; it's eight pounds for adults to get in tomorrow night, ebsacfc. £4 for me as a student so I'll be going down. Looking forward to seeing the new faces, even if it is against a bunch of kids.

That'll teach me for not looking at the website! Even so, not the most appealing pre season programme.

That'll teach me for not looking at the website! Haha I think you're right that tomorrow night won't be the greatest test nor the most enthralling of matches. Having said that, I think the Stevenage game will be worth a watch and hopefully playing Eastleigh will give us some idea of the quality we might be up against this season.

How will playing Eastleigh give us any idea of the quality we will be up against? They have a ridiculous squad built on £££££ we are worlds apart.

Stevenage are playing Coventry City at home on the Saturday (two days before our game), and Reading four days earlier.
Eastleigh have us sandwiched between home games against Crawley and Northampton (followed up with a home game against Southampton!).
Where are Spurs reserves playing these days?!

I never said we weren't worlds apart. Or that they weren't loaded.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Eastleigh were champions of the Conference South last season, so they obviously had the quality to compete at the business-end of this division and come out on top. Will be interesting to see how we measure up to that. If a pre-season friendly can be used as any measure at all, that is.

Eastleigh threw some money, got promoted, and then threw loads more over the summer didn't they?

They've had a conference national quality squad for a few seasons now and finally won promotion, took them a while though and now they have a league 2 quality squad 3rd favs for the conference

Still won them the league! However they did it they were the team to beat last year. Who's to say there won't be another team doing that this year?
Alright fine, sorry for trying to find some justification for playing them!

I don't think people realise how difficult it is to get friendlies with League clubs these days unless you already have a connection of some kind with them. There are some sides in the Conference South who don't even have a League club at home this summer, whereas we have a Stevenage First XI coming down. Plus, you have to remember that the management will not want to go into a new season having been defeated by 5 or 6 in each home pre-season game because the calibre of opponent they are facing is one we're never likely to meet regularly week in, week out. Of course, arguing with some common sense is never too welcome on this forum...

Is that Warren McBean who played for us in the Conference season? I seem to remember him scoring vs York?
