Quite a pleasing performance and a good run-out but games against teams like this are never really going to tell you much about the side.
Interesting to see McBean back. As cheshuntsaint says, I remember him playing for us under Colin Lippiatt. Clearly he wasn't fancied by the management at that point as he was let go after a game or two. Took his goal tonight well.
Some decent individual performances elsewhere too. Pires and Buchanan looked useful and Lee Clarke managed to get himself on the score-sheet (good to see the old one-armed celebration back at Clarence Park).
I thought Danny Green (pretty sure it was Danny Green but correct me if I'm wrong!) gave a good account of himself in a holding midfield role in the second half - if there isn't a ready-made Ram replacement lined up then I wouldn't be too upset to see him given a go in that position.

Yes, Green actually got an assist for our fifth goal (I think) with an excellent pass.

Saints (0) 6 Dagenham & Redbridge (1) 2
Pires Buchanan 2 Clarke McBean Keenleyside
Saints line up tonight -
Welch (Coulton), Kyriacou (Hall), Martin, Locke (Bola), Chappell (Lette Jallow), Corcoran (Green), Pires (McBean), Clarke (Wales), Frendo (Taylor), Comley (Miles), Buchanan (Keenleyside).
A good work out with Dagenham seemingly tiring a bit in the 2nd half. 2 clinical strikes from Buchanan and a gem of a finish from Keenleyside.

Considering all the banging on about the quality of the opposition for your money debate prior to the game. I thought it was a decent game well worth every penny. A young Dagenham and redbridge side were more than up to the task. The game remained very competitive right up till about the 60 min mark before they started to tire. It's all about the minutes on the clock atm, but the performance was more than satisfying. Kyriacou did not stop running throughout and will cause sides problems next year. Not afraid to ask for the ball under pressure, not afraid to attack the opposition and his crossing always fell into dangerous attacking areas. We may have a new Duracell bunny like Chappers which will make us as dangerous on the right as we were on the left last season. That Taylor Miles from West ham is gonna be a decent player when he is older. He's composed on the ball, not afraid of receiving the ball and can attack at speed. Very promising! I just hope someone else doesn't snap him up if he continues to play well against more powerful and experienced opposition, then offer the boy a contract. He will be quite a talent when he grows bigger and stronger. Pires and Buchanan took their chances well. Need to see more of Warren Mcbean, but he done himself no harm tonight.

From Gray post match, Miles has various offers for trials from league clubs, but he'd like get some more time with him. Buchanan will, he hopes, be at training on Thursday night, and they will go from there, but he really impressed the management tonight.

I don't think people realise how difficult it is to get friendlies with League clubs these days unless you already have a connection of some kind with them. There are some sides in the Conference South who don't even have a League club at home this summer, whereas we have a Stevenage First XI coming down. Plus, you have to remember that the management will not want to go into a new season having been defeated by 5 or 6 in each home pre-season game because the calibre of opponent they are facing is one we're never likely to meet regularly week in, week out. Of course, arguing with some common sense is never too welcome on this forum... Select home friendlies for others: Basingstoke - Yeovil, Reading, Newport County, Woking Bath - Cardiff City, Swansea City u-21, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Bishop's Stortford - Cambridge Utd, Peterborough Utd u-21, Norwich City u-21 B Woooood - Brentford, Arsenal, Cambridge Utd, Reading XI Bromley - Dagenham, Gillingham, Millwall XI, Charlton Athletic Concord Rangers - Southend Utd, Dagenham, Millwall Ebbsfleet - Dagenham, Charlton, Portsmouth, Gillingham Farnborough - Oxford Utd, Leyton Orient Havant - Portsmouth, West Ham u-21, Crystal Palace Hemel - Reading u-21, Watford XI Staines - Reading u-21, Aldershot, Brentford XI, Swansea City u-21 Sutton - Chelsea u-21, Reading XI, West Ham Utd XI, Aldershot, Cambridge Utd Wealdstone - Dagenham, Watford, Wycombe Weston-super-mare - Plymouth, Exeter
