Some interesting stuff in yesterday's Herts Ad in an article by Madeleine Burton on P16 and in the Editor's comment section on P10. If you ask me, Mr Paul Brecknell and his Protect Clarence Park and Clarence Park Residents Association are not in the least bit interested in Clarence Park per se. I would suggest that these Johnny-come-lately city traders, solicitors, accountants, barristers et al are a lot more interested in a possible reduction in value of their £1.5/2M Clarence Road and York Road properties, should the stadium be redeveloped, which we all know is never going to happen. They also need to know that Clarence Park, when it came into being, was for the use of the whole of the population of St. Albans and not just for the residents of two surrounding roads. Lawrence Levy and Matt Adams, editor of the Herts Ad, have it spot on. There has been football at Clarence Park for in excess of 100 years, a sight longer than any members of PCP and CPRA have been residing in Clarence and York Road. As Lawrence says, all of them were fully aware that there was a football ground in Clarence Park, when they first moved. It's very simple, if they didn't like the situation, they should not have moved there in the first place. You have to wonder, if this group had been around in the 1860s, whether the old LMS railway line would have ever been constructed No images allowed -http://i62.tinypic.com/1qkilj.jpg

I'm sure some folk on here will remember the Brown-Quinns in the late 90s who brought the house at the very top of York Road then went about trying to stop the fence going up, a full house of saints fans packed the council offices while the Brown-Quinns tried to engage in an episode of LA Law only to be shot down by the council and a classic line "football was being played at Clarence Park when the wagons were rolling over the dusty plains of America" or something similar The Brown-Quinns were American BTW
Cue a couple of months of pizzas, taxies and people phoning up pretending to be from gay chat lines and they moved out
This kind of poo poo wouldn't happen in Italy, the ultras would be letting the York Road residents association know who ran York Road

Should move if they don't like football.
Don't need idiots like this blocking the Saints from marching on.

I'd put money on them having mobile phones and grumbling when they have a **** signal! I do agree with one of their points though - what's all the nonsense about the closing of York road entrance to the park? There used to be thousands of supporters watching football at the park in years gone by - did we have any incidents of someone being squashed? Or local yummie mummies crashing their perambulators into hordes of football fans in frantic efforts to get into or out of the park? I would really like to know what 'trading standards' have to do with it, or why the fans need 'protection' and security? Anyone know the real reason? (Dont give me health and safety ****!)

I had genuinely heard that it was at the request of the council and other organisations as it means no groups looking to cause trouble can get in to the bar without a ticket, or anyone chucked out therefore can't get back in to get to the clubhouse.
May not be accurate, but it's what some were told.

It's fairly obvious that no-one is going to invest large sums of money in re-developing the current location (even if they could) if the current location can only be secured with a 10 year licence.
It is interesting that the Facebook Group 'Clarence Park Under Threat' which is closely affiliated to the PCP Group organised a walkabout in Clarence Park on 19th June. It is noted that only 5 people attended and reasons for not attending included that it clashed with an England World Cup game (so they will watch an England game on TV but not be supportive of their local grass roots team) and that they couldn't attend because they now live in Somerset!!
Interestingly, EFMTFTV, when we were queuing up for the Mansfield game, we were talking about those Americans and what would they know about football anyway. Turns out that we were queuing in front of former Saint, the American Beckett Hollenbach!! Fortunately, he's a really nice bloke and took it all in good heart.
I do think that the complaints about the volume of music before and during games is valid. There is no need for it to be so loud especially when the ground is in a residential area and we should show some consideration to the local residents by turning it down.

May not be accurate, but it's what some were told. I thought it was just to stop people getting in for nothing at half time but those are valid reasons
