Great stuff!
Sounds like a brilliant response after Saturday, especially after going 2-0 down.

Great stuff.
Frendo is a City legend.
Hemel are way out of their depth.
They are going down quicker than Monica Lewinsky.

Citycentresaint, you're obsessed with Hemel!
Wales' second Is definitely a goal of the season contender already.

That was a terrific game, with shades of last season's comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Burnham. Wales' brilliant winning goal was reminiscent of Kalozci's brilliant strike at Burnham.
The pitch was in great nick, no doubt as a result of the fact that Chelsea's women's team play there. Saints started much more brightly than they did against Hayes on Saturday. Gray and Golds' tactical approach does seem to work much better away from home. At Clarence Park perhaps they feel the pressure to play two up front, which means we end up looking quite flat and struggle to break teams down. The midfield then tends to find it harder to gain and retain possession.
But away from home, with Frendo leading the line and Keenleyside and Wales given the freedom to play deeper - not quite forwards in a 4-3-3 but not quite midfielders either - the formation makes us much more lively, vibrant and less predictable for the opposition. It also frees Comley up and he was superb this evening, playing with the energy and commitment that he did in the play-offs.
So, we started well and the first half was pretty even. Staines had spells but City were more than in the game until that moment right near the end of the half.
The second goal was really disappointing. The defence all stopped, presumably waiting for a flag and whistle and Staines strolled on and smacked it into the net. The fact that Wales hit back so soon afterwards was vital because heads could have dropped otherwise.
The equaliser meant it was game on and the winner was sublime. It looked in from miles out and the keeper knew well before it was over his head that he wasn't going to reach it. A brilliant strike.
Just what was needed after Saturday's flat display and now it feels the season has really started.

Cant believe it! 2-0 down and going nowhere and then a 12 minute spell puts us 3-2 up! Conceded 2 sloppy goals and really went to sleep for the first of them. Silly and just before half -time. but what a come back with some great goals. Hanging on at times towards the end and question marks still hang over some players but its the result that counts and we got this one. And topped off with the Hemel defeat! a very happy drive back with satnav, eggy and the Dutchman. Great support from us yet again but where were the Staines Massive? Very disappointing home support. No chips either.

What a game most stressful day ever! we hadn't even left St.Albans by 7pm and only missed the first minute it was worth all the stress and every penny. The saints fans were out in full force and certainly constituted to the extra man. The performance was superb in comparison to Saturday against a team that is looking to come top 8, funny game football.. Comely was superb today but Danny Green summed up the spirit of the team, when in the last minute when he was already completely knackered chased this ball 30 yards and took it into the corner to kill the game. It was a real team effort and now we will have to go again against Farnborough on Saturday. I think we may struggle against the bottom teams this year, because of their sheer size and physicality. Against teams at the top they wanna play football and are of the same build as our players. It really suited our style, we may find it easier against top teams.

This was about as far different from Saturday's game as you could possibly get. We played 4-5-1 and the team had a shape to it, a good shape. Welcome back John Frendo, you have been sadly missed. We had someone up front, who was able to find space and lay the ball off, even though he is obviously not fully match fit. He made a huge difference tonight. The workrate was excellent and it needed to be against a side that finished 8th in the Conference South last season. Make no mistake, Staines were a good side and both their goals were clinical finishes. They will win a lot more games than they lose this season. Ming(2), Worsfold (3), James-Lewis (4), Willock (8) and Theophanous (9) especially, were outstanding. We were unlucky to be behind at the break but the main turning point was getting a goal back almost immediately after they had gone 2 up. It changed the game. The 3rd goal, Wales's 2nd, was an absolute peach. As someone else remarked, an immediate contender for GOS.
A great night.

First half was a poor game - that we edged and were unlucky to be losing - a lapse in concentration (Again) and a great finish from a tight angle. We seemed to be trying to force everything, playing an silly final pass when the shot was on.
Second half started the same as the second half ended, another lapse in concentration led to 2-0.
We then started playing the ball on the floor got it out wide quickly and at pace and caused them constant problems, the second goal was a superb team goal and the third was a contender for goal of the season by Super Stevie Wales.
We then sat back a little which led to the inevitable pressure and two super saves from Welch denied them.
A great three points and hopefully more of the same away at Farnborough on Sat.
A huge shout out to the 60 fans behind the Saints goal - non stop singing - and flags to rival anyones!
(Hemel also lost 6-0 at home to the Wood - HA)

I come in peace from Staines...just wanted to say well done last night on a well deserved win. I just wanted to compliment your team on the way they played the game, which in all honesty they totally controlled, and all your goals were a pleasure to behold. I can't think of the last time a team came to Wheatsheaf Park and dominated us like that so well done. Good luck for the rest of the season, apart from when we meet again of course.

The footballexclusives.co.uk site looks good and a real development for non-league football. An online 'Sky Sports News' style service could do really well when you consider how little audio and visual content is available for non-league. Having said that, I'm not sure I'd sit and watch interviews or action from other clubs' games but when there's some Saints content I'll definitely have a look. By the look of it, there might be a clip showing the goals on that site later on today.
In a slightly related note, it's a shame Jimmy Gray's interview from after the Hayes and Yeading game didn't find its way onto the club's website, particularly after Saint teased us by saying how honest Jimmy had been.
Finally, to Swanfan, I really enjoyed my first trip to Staines Town. Very friendly, a nice grandstand to sit in (I watched the first 60 minutes from there, then moved down to stand) and the pitch looked immaculate.

I read the Herts Ad piece but I think there's something about hearing the tone of someone's voice. Win or lose, it's always good to hear what the manager made of a game. Sometimes, as supporters, or observers, we think we know what the team was trying to do in a match but the manager will give a completely different explanation.

Funny game, football. Having watched the goals on the video it's funny how the mind's eye memory of them is so different.
Seeing it again, the first Staines goal is an absolute cracker. At the time, seeing it come right out of the blue, it felt like the defence was at fault but really, the striker's finish was impressive.
Similarly, because the second goal was a backheel it 'felt' like a worse goal to concede than it actually was. At the time, I thought the defence was playing statues but actually the attacker did well to wrongfoot Chappell.
And Frendo's goal was brilliant, a lovely bit of neat but direct interplay and an instinctive finish. Wales's goal was as good on video as it seemed last night!

5 excellent goals and 2 superb saves from Joe Welch late in the game. Frendo's movement for our 2nd was top drawer.

Im liking the footage from the Staines game. Their 2nd goal was a brilliant piece of finishing and altho the finish for their first was good , we had gone to sleep to allow him in. Staines fan seems impressed and well done to him for coming onto our forum and being so generous. Thank you. Do we have any plans to film our games at home on a similar basis to Staines? As for our goals, all well taken and opportunistic-no unnecessary touches and clinical. More of the same , Good to get points early on as it would be great to avoid a relegation battle run in.
