Hopefully the Saints tw@tter account is a bit more thorough on Saturday than it was the other week, otherwise if you can't get down you could also check the Herts Ad Sport account for updates.

Sutton United Home Preview Published on Friday, 29 August 2014 13:01 Written by Jake Ellacott After defeat away to league leaders Eastbourne Borough on bank holiday Monday, the Saints return to Clarence Park on Saturday afternoon looking to spring a surprise when they take on last season’s runners up Sutton United. St Albans started last weekend’s double header with an impressive 2-1 win against Hertfordshire neighbours Bishops Stortford. Sean Shields made a welcome, and winning, return to club on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge, with an exquisite James Comley strike, and a close range finish from Ben Martin proving to be enough for the Saints to come away with all three points. However, defeat on Monday came courtesy of a second minute header from Adam Watts. Despite conceding so early on, and having a number of chances to equalise, City failed to find a way back into the game, which was hampered in some part by the terrible weather conditions. After the game, joint manager James Gray admitted that his side deserved at least a point from the game, and was impressed with the character that the team showed, even if they failed to come away from Priory Lane with at least a point. Sutton, as mentioned earlier, finished last season in second, behind champions Eastleigh. But they failed to negotiate their two-legged play-off semi-final, going down 4-1 on aggregate to eventual play-off victors Dover Athletic. Coming so close, yet failing, to secure promotion will have disappointed those at The Borough Sports Ground, and they will surely be looking to go the full distance this season, instead of falling at one of the final hurdles. The U’s have started the season poorly, securing just four points from their opening four games, leaving them in a surprising 19th place. Those four points have come from a solitary draw away to Chelmsford City, and a 1-0 win at home against Havant & Waterlooville. Two disappointing defeats against Maidenhead and Boreham Wood either side of those two positive results leaves Sutton needing three points at Clarence Park on Saturday. Gray and Golds go into the Sutton United game with Tom Ward most likely out, while Sam Corcoran will definitely be missing as a result of the knock he picked up against Bishops Stortford. As a result, a similar starting XI to the one which fell to defeat at Eastbourne is likely to start on Saturday. Kick-off at Clarence Park is 3:00pm. Co-Owner Lawrence Levy will be taking on the Ice Bucket Challenge at half time on Saturday having been nominated by Brian Robson, principal director of Brian Robson Coachworks. The Club positively seeks donations during the afternoon for the Motor Neurone Disease Association who fund and promote research into MND as well as providing support to those affected. Preview on the Sutton website:
Sutton return to a once-familiar ground for the first time in over six years tomorrow with an away game at St Albans, who gained promotion back to Vanarama Conference South at the end of last season from the Southern League, ending a three year absence that had follwoed their relegation in 2011. Sutton's last visit to Clarence Park was in January 2008, and provided one of the few highspots of a miserable campaign as U's came from behind to win 2-1 thanks to an injury time goal by John Scarborough that gave supporters what proved to be a false hope that the season might turn round. Saints have made a decent start back at this level, beaten on the opening day of the season at home to Hayes & Yeading but then picking up three consecutive wins away to Staines and Farnborough and at home to Bishop's Stortford before a narrow defeat at league leaders Eastbourne on Monday. Sutton welcome Callum Hart and Dale Binns in to the squad for the game, with Will Spetch now the only injury absentee, and manager Paul Doswell expects him to be in contention in another two weeks or so. Paul also said that he is in talks with a striker and hopes to be able to announce a signing next week. Not making the trip to Clarence Park, though, will be Peter Beadle, who has left the position of Head Coach after discussions this week with Paul. We would like to wish Peter well for the future and thank him for his services during his time at the club.

Dale Binns used to be quality at Hendon and scored a wonder goal vs us for Stevenage in the conference

Not getting through the playoffs always seems to impact on the next season.
Hopefully we can continue our good early season form and put a few through them.

Presumably it'll revert back when you head off to college?

Presumably it'll revert back when you head off to college? Quite possibly, but, it depends on how many games I can catch. I might however, be able to have some say in who takes it over, or at least, help 'train' them in making it better.

Train them to post updates on twitter? don't you need a qualification to be able to train someone on social media?

Interesting to note on the Sutton site is another supporter planning on boycotting the game due to the prices

This ticket rise could be a good way to boost our home displays.
If the opposition fans refuse to turn up we will be playing in front of just Saints fans.
That will surely demotivate the opposition.
Some of the less affluent teams we play against will really struggle to afford the match fee.
Maybe this is a cunning plan. If it is, well done.

Just a thought.
Does anyone remember the phrase that used to go around Clarence Park in the 1960s "Remember Sutton". Apparently we played a couple of games against Sutton in the old Isthmian League (not sure when exactly, when we were a couple of goals ahead with a few minutes left only for Sutton to come back and either win or draw. And years later whenever City were ahead by 2 or more goals in matches and the younger suporters were confident of victory they were reminded "Remember Sutton".
