Match report from Matt Hall in the Bromley Times -
After losing out 1-0 to Chelmsford City in their non league day clash, Bromley continued their unbeaten away record with a 2-2 draw at St Albans City.
The City lineup included recently departed Bromley goalkeeper Joe Welch, who received a superb reception from the Ravens faithful.
Bromley started the game the more lively of the sides, and Pierre Joseph-Dubois’ glancing header from a Harry Grant corner was cleared off the line by John Kyriacou. St Albans back line seemed unable, at times, to prevent themselves from slicing crosses narrowly over their own crossbar. Crosses from Grant and Joe Anderson were scuffed just over Welch’s crossbar, as City appeared to have had a luck escape. After Jack Holland put a close range header over, the Yellows’ Geoff Mitchell had a thumping, long range shot cannon off the crossbar, with Ravens goalkeeper Seb Brown helpless. However, Brown was to be the visitors’ saviour just moments later, as he made an excellent one on one save from Charlie Gorman.
Bromley deservedly went ahead on 34 minutes. Louis Dennis collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area, before sidestepping his man and curling a fine effort past former team-mate Welch. It should have been 2-0 minutes after, as City somehow managed to block three Bromley shots on the line. Grant, Dennis, and Joseph-Dubois had certain goals prevented by a combination of Saints defenders and goalkeeper Welch. Bromley would live to rue those missed chances, as a flicked header from a long throw in evened the scores up a minute before half time, James Kaloczi with the goal for the home side.
Bromley went back in front not long after half time. Following heroics from Welch to keep out a close range Moses Ademola header, he was unable to prevent Danny Waldren powering home a headed effort for his third league goal of the season. However, yet again, the joy was short lived, as City levelled up the scores seven minutes later. Bromley were unable to defend a free kick out wide, and Ben Martin duly headed home the set piece. A succession of chances for Bromley followed, and Grant missed a great chance following a flowing team move, half volleying the ball over from inside the box.
Anderson had to be alert to head a flicked effort off the line from a Saints corner, and almost immediately, Lee Chappell cleared a Waldren volley off the line at the other end, as the game began to become more intense.
Joseph-Dubois had an effort dubiously ruled out for offside, before perhaps the best chance to win the match came in injury time.
Jamie Slabber wriggled in and out of City defenders in the box, before seeing his deflected shot agonisingly headed off the line, swiftly followed by the final whistle.
The result does see Bromley move to third in the Vanarama Conference South, with 14 points from 8 matches. They are next in action away to Farnborough on Saturday, before hosting Gosport Borough on 20th September at the Fortress Stadium.

Report from the Bromley Newshopper -
Lilleywhites pegged back twice by St Albans
Danny Waldren put Bromley 2-1 up in the second half but they couldn't hold the lead, dropping two points last night in a 2-2 draw at lowly St Albans City, after twice being in front.
A lack of accuracy in front of goal, combined with a failure to deal with set pieces in defence, was their main problem as the Lillywhites were forced to settle for their second draw of the campaign.
The Hayes Lane Club started on the front foot, with Pierre Joseph-Dubois forcing a good save out of former Bromley keeper Joe Welch and then seeing his header cleared off the line by John Kyriacou.
City were denied by a timely clearance by Jack Holland, before the Bromley defender headed wide at the other end, while Louis Dennis and Joe Anderson saw crosses sliced narrowly wide of goal by St Albans defenders.
Ali Fuseini sent a low shot wide and then Joseph-Dubois steered a Ugo Udoji cross just wide.
The visitors had a let off on 27 minutes when Geoff Mitchell’s dipping 35 yard shot beat Seb Brown to bounce off the top of the bar, and three minutes later the Bromley keeper was quickly out to block Charlie Gorman’s effort.
Bromley opened the scoring on 34 minutes when Dennis collected possession on the edge of the area before stepping inside his marker to curl a shot wide of Welch.
Harry Grant then saw his shot cleared off the line by Lee Chappell, Dennis’ rebound follow up was blocked by Welch and Joseph-Dubois’ low effort was eventually cleared by a defender.
Those misses proved costly as the home side levelled the scores two minutes before the interval.
Chappell’s 35 yard throw-in was headed on by Loick Pires to James Kaloczi at the far post and the unmarked midfielder had a simple header into the corner of the net.
Welch prevented Bromley regaining the lead two minutes into the second half when he got down to Moses Ademola’s close range header, but the visitors were back in front after 52 minutes.
Joseph-Dubois won a corner which was played short to Grant, whose cross was headed home by Danny Waldren.
But the lead was short lived as Chappell’s free-kick just before the hour picked out an unmarked Ben Martin and his header flew past Brown.
Either side could have won the game in the latter stages.
Ademola wasted two good opportunities and Welch made an excellent diving save from Waldren, while Joe Anderson cleared off the line from Kaloczi’s header.
Bromley were denied when Chappell cleared off the line from Waldren, Mitchell fired into the side-netting following a decent run into the area and another long Chappell throw in caused consternation in the Bromley goalmouth.
But at the end of the day Bromley have only taken one point from two games against opposition that, if they are to be considered serious title contenders, they should be winning against.

Herts ad report:
St Albans City stopped the rot by earning a thrilling point at home against Bromley.
Twice the Saints came back, first through James Kaloczi and then Ben Martin, as they picked up their first point in four games following three successive losses.
St Albans joint managers James Gray and Graham Golds shuffled their pack, deploying James Kaloczi, back from his loan at Wingate and Finchley, in midfield and starting John Frendo, Loick Pires and Geoff Mitchell. Sean Shields and Steve Wales also dropped to the bench.
The first clear chances fell to Bromley as first Danny Waldren headed a tame effort that was no trouble for Joe Welch and then John Kyriacou had to clear the ball off the line after Moses Ademola looped a glancing header towards the back post.
Bromley should have taken the lead in the 18th minute, and it was a set piece, City’s Achilles heel this year, this was almost their downfall. A corner was flicked to Jack Holland at the back post and with the goal at his mercy he headed over the bar.
Pierre Joseph-Dubois was next to miss a golden chance from Bromley, scooping the ball over the bar from six yards out while, at the other end, Mitchell almost scored a wonder goal from 25 yards out but his shot cannoned off the bar with Brown beaten.
Frendo was then guilty of missing a golden chance. Mitchell flicked the ball through the back four for Frendo to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper but Brown saved with his feet.
The miss proved costly as four minutes later Bromley were in front. Kaloczi lost the ball in the midfield, Moses Ademola worked it wide to Louis Dennis who cut in on his left foot and first it inside the far post from 12 yards. It was no more than the visitors deserved against City’s shaky back line.
City’s defence was stretched to its limit in the 41st minute as Kyriacou made his second goal-line clearance, this time from Grant, and Welch was forced to block Dennis’ rebound but it didn’t break.
For all their struggles with defending set pieces, St Albans utilised it perfectly to draw level. Lee Chappell’s trademark long throw was flicked on by Pires to Kaloczi who calmly headed the ball over Brown.
Bromley started the second half in the same manner they did the first and Welch had to be alert to save down low to his right from Ademola. Tom Ward then did well to block Joseph-Dubois’ shot but, for all the warnings, City were caught ball-watching from the corner and Walden jumped over the top of two defenders to head Bromley back in front.
The third should have followed 60 seconds later, in the 56th minute, but Ademola mis-kicked Udoji’s perfect cross to the back post.
Bromley’s lead didn’t last long, though, as Chappell picked out Ben Martin with a free-kick and the skipper glanced a header across the face of goal and into the top corner.
The visitors nearly hit straight away after Martin was caught in possession at the back but two chances were blocked before Fuseini hit the side netting. Fuseini then set up the next chances from a counter attack but Grant fired over.
Kaloczi almost had a second in the 72nd minute in a carbon copy of Martin’s goal but Joe Anderson was on the back post to hack the ball away. Chappell was then called on to make City’s third goal-line clearance, deflecting Waldren’s drive out for a corner.
Both teams made changes to set up an exciting 15 minutes as Shields and Bromley’s Birchall were introduced.
The visitors had the ball in the net in the 80th minute but Joseph-Dubois had failed to hold his run as Martin stepped up and his goal was ruled out.
Steve Wales was brought on as a last throw of the dice to get a result but it was Ward and Martin that combined, somewhat haphazardly, to stop Bromley’s last chance of the game. It was a fitting way to earn a point after the defence had been found wanting in the last two losses.
The Saints are next in action on Saturday, at home to Maidenhead United. 3pm kick-off.
St Albans City starting line-up: Welch, Kyriacou, Chappell, Kaloczi, Martin, Ward, Gorman, Clarke, Frendo, Pires, Mitchell. Subs: Wales, Shields, Keenleyside, Green, Bola.
Bromley starting line-up: Brown, Udoji, Anderson, Fuseini, Holland, Bailey-Dennes, Joseph-Dubois, Waldren, Dennis, Ademola, Grant. Subs: Williams, Scannell, Birchall, Slabber, Agu.

Hemel and Wealdstone fans are quite depressed after tonight's results... As recentconvert says, in comparison, on the field, the team has done really quite well to adjust. It's just a shame that the price rise means fans quite rightly demand wins every week, especially at home.

I don't demand wins all the time but I at least expect players /team to do their best every time , leaving nothing on the field especially with the price hike. However, to get over 400 2 days after an away trip and on a night when Ingerland were live on terra tv is no mean feat and indicative of the great base support we have.

Yes we are a well supported outfit.
The away support we took to Chesham would be the envy of some league outfits.
I thought we would find the step up easier than some other sides. Last season we struggled against the pub outfits. When we played proper footballing outfits we felt much more at home.

Firstly, I was proud of how the team fought back to gain a point on Monday. There will be ups and downs this season. Stability will be success....plus a cup run or two. Secondly, I want to say thanks to the person/people who film the match highlights and put them on this site. It means so much to me, living so far away and unable to see the Saints very often. Thank you.

I know Kyriacou has his fans on here and I would count myself among them, but I was wondering what the general opinion was about his defensive qualities? Obviously he's very good going forward, but having two like-minded attacking full-backs can often leave the two centre-halves a little exposed. I noticed it before I went away and in some of the highlights since that he's looked a little shaky defensively.
Personally, I think it's a shame that Howard Hall hasn't been given more of an opportunity to compete for his place - he had a great end to last season and, in my opinion, is a little more solid at the back. Kyriacou, like Chappell, gives us that threat going forward but scoring goals doesn't seem to be a major issue for us at the minute.
Obviously I haven't been able to get to games lately so this is more of an enquiry than a criticism.

Unfortunately City do not get to play here "up north" as much as they did in recent years so the only game I've seen recently was against Ware. In that game I also felt that Kyriacou left big spaces behind to be potentially exploited. Though it could be argued that it is the job of one of the midfielders to plug that gap when necessary.
