A great honour and an opportunity for James to display his talents at international level. Also a reflection on our club that the team manager came to see the game on Sunday so he must have had a heads up. Congratulations James. Well done

Paul Fairclough is regularly seen at Clarence Park, and I've spotted him at least twice this season down there, so it's no surprise that Comley's talents have been recognised! Great for the player and the club.

From a purely selfish perspective... will he be missing any games and if so which ones?

He'll miss any FA Cup 3Q replay as the game is on the 14th and we play that on the 11th

Congratulations to James from the West Wales branch of Saints fans. Fantastic achievement. I remember the early 70's when none of our stars were selected as St Albans were an unfashionable club - and they all got selected when joining Hendon, Enfield and Wycombe. Paul Fairclough used to play for us so he should know where our ground is! Lol.

Congratulations Def Com 1 COMLEY CALLED UP BY ENGLAND Written by Webbo The Club is delighted to announce that James Comley has been called up to the England C Squad for the forthcoming International Challenge Trophy Group A fixture against Turkey A2 in Istanbul. England C Manager Paul Fairclough watched our FA Cup game against Hayes & Yeading United on Sunday and named James in his 16 man squad this afternoon. The England C team represents England at non-league level and features players who play for clubs outside of the Football League. Paul Fairclough has managed the side since 2003. The International Challenge Trophy is a competition open to national teams featuring semi-professional footballers who have not won senior international caps. All at St Albans City are pleased and excited for James and are sure that he will rise to the challenge with the midfield qualities that have enabled him to make his name at Clarence Park. www.sacfc.co.uk/index.php/the-club/2012-04-10-18-56-53/latest-club-news/2804-comley-called-up-by-england.html

He'll miss any FA Cup 3Q replay as the game is on the 14th and we play that on the 11th To be honest I'd be surprised if he played at Weston-super-mare on the following Saturday. With a flight back from Turkey either very late on Tuesday or on Wednesday morning, plus the hard work that Fairclough puts his squads through, I reckon he'll be knackered and more than likely on the bench. I'll be delighted to be proved wrong, but this will be a new experience for our James and I don't think anyone should be surprised if he's mentally and/or physically drained on his return. More importantly, is it on telly anywhere? I want to watch him represent my country!

As others have said, it's thoroughly deserved. Comley has been excellent this season. In fact, he really impressed in the play-offs too and it seems that he performs better the bigger the game.
It must be hard for a player who spends his whole youth career at a league club, then breaks into the first team briefly - as James did at Crystal Palace - only to slip into the non-league game.
There are some super players at this level, and below. It doesn't surprise me, for example, that Marriott (ex-Cambridge City) and Pett (ex-Wealdstone) are doing well for Stevenage in League Two.
I reckon Comley could play at that level if he was able to produce his best a bit more consistently.

Magnus is a player I rated highly, who has gone on to have a great career.
Was ridiculed when he was a Saints player by large majority of the fans.
Glad he proved the doubters wrong.

Had to log on and add to your post citycentresaint. A lot of the early victories we had in the Conference National were down to the 3 centre backs we played allowing the two full backs to get forward while maintaining security at the back. I distinctly remember it working a treat at Northwich where Lee Flynn scored (think I am right?). Although Dave Theobald got credit for scoring a few goals (who can forget Kidderminster!) I thought Magnus was a very good player and deserved to go on and play higher.

Don't think he was here long enough, he just passed through didn't he? I think the popular opinion was he was the 3rd best CB, although I can't remember who the other 2 were I had no issues with him

Not a bad bunch of defenders there ! Ben was also about around that time. I'm not sure Flaming Ada was with us at the same time as Magnus
