What do the trust actually do apart from hold onto £10,000 for a rainy day?

I'm not a member of the trust but I didn't hear anything about it.
There isn't a thread on this forum notifying people about the AGM and there isn't anything on the trust's website either. Latest news seems to be about a prediction league, the December 2013 newsletter and details about last year's AGM.
As a relatively new fan (coming up to a full year attending games regularly rather than one or two a season) my perception is that the Trust is an extension of the club rather than an independent body that serves as a watchdog.
Perhaps that's unfair but it's how it seems to me.

I don't speak for the Trust nor am I heavily involved, but I'm a fully paid-up member and wouldn't be if I didn't believe in what it does or what it stands for.
I don't believe the organisation is perfect or that it couldn't do more to raise support/membership but ultimately it's a pretty small band of supporters behind it and as the good times roll people are less inclined to put money into it and/or get involved.
I would certainly refute recentconvert's statement about it being 'an extension of the club rather than an independent body that serves as a watchdog.' When things are going well on the pitch as well as off it (and, relatively speaking, things are at the moment) it would be silly for the Trust to do anything other than work with the club. This doesn't mean it wouldn't be there to monitor the situation and represent the fans should things turn sour, as it did not so long ago.
We're lucky to have Levy and McGowan as owners that are interested in the community and the future of the club - their good work does limit the role of the Trust to some extent but it continues to play an important role in terms of ground maintenance and as an insurance policy for the fans. That's how I see it, anyway.
I think people on here have short memories sometimes - had it not been for their involvement we might not have a club and I genuinely believe that. Again, I think more can be done in terms of connecting with the fans outside the Trust (as you say recentconvert, the AGM was not well-advertised - certainly not an unfair crticism) but I trust (pardon the pun) the people behind it to do what's best with the money cheshuntsaint is referring to.
That said, I do understand your frustrations with it as I think communication isn't the best sometimes and that's something the Trust could definitely improve on.

Well said COYS. All trust members should of received an email telling them the date of the AGM I don't know if it was advertised anywhere else, I would expect something to be posted on the trust website soon.

Perhaps that's unfair but it's how it seems to me. All sadly a bit quiet... Hi recentconvert and townsend, I have, tonight, spoken with Ian Rogers, The Saints City Trust chairman, ref your various concerns and he tells me the following - The Trust organise and supply all volunteers to carry out match day fundraising, the selling of match day programmes and the staffing of turnstiles. The various fundraising carried out during the 2013/14 season raised £4,500.00 and went towards the pitch reinstatement works during the close season. With regard to the 2014 Trust AGM, a notice of this was sent out to all Trust members. It was also included in the matchday programme, announced over the tannoy at the Chelmsford City game and advertised both in the ground and in the Saints Bar. Ian acknowledges that there has been a problem with the Trust website and a new site is in the process of being set up, hopefully to be up and running within the next 4 weeks and any help in making sure that this time period is achieved would be appreciated. Ian also wishes to state that he attends all of the Club's board meetings to represent supporters' views (this included opposing the 2014/15 admission price rise) and dealing with issues raised by any supporters on match day matters. Finally, if you have any queries whatsoever on Trust matters or even Club matters, please do not hesitate to speak to Ian, or any other Trust committee member, in person, on match days and they will be pleased to listen and help.
