Andy Porter Written by Webbo St Albans City is very sorry to hear of the passing away of the Tottenham Hotspur Club Historian and Statistician Andy Porter. Andy was a good friend of the City and forwarded, without prompting, information about former Spurs players whenever they passed through Clarence Park. Andy possessed an encyclopaedic knowledge of Tottenham players and off the field staff, and kept a close on eye on where they went to play or coach around the world. Each year this information would be updated and included in the Spurs Handbook. For the past 20 or so years he also worked closely with our club historians, David Tavener and Peter Taylor, not only on playing links between the two clubs, but, possibly more importantly, with information regarding George Wagstaffe Simmons. GWS was the founder of St Albans City and was a director of Tottenham Hotspur, including ten years as vice chairman prior to his death in 1954. Included in amongst the many fascinating items Andy forward to us were scanned team sheets of matches played between the original St Albans Football Club and Tottenham Hotspur during the 1903-04 season. Andy's loss will be felt at a great number of clubs around the country and we send our condolences to his family at this sad time.
