Jimmy Gray Tweeted last night.
"What a horrible day, I want to curl up and hibernate for a while"
I do wonder, with the local papers and radio on the story, whether someone - probably the chairman - should have shown a bit of leadership and been the 'voice' of the club on this. It's amazing how being pro-active and open can change people's perceptions and turn a negative story into a less negative one.

Crap for the management, and presumably for the other players. Fair point about chairman. But, we must assume that the club have been a bit surprised by this and are not quite sure what to say. I guess this is how non-league differs from league. A league club would have had a PR machine mobilised as soon as there was a hint of a problem (and phones would have been melting). The 'voice' we will need to hear from at some point soon is John Frendo ...

I presume he won't be referred to as "Lord Frendo" anymore?
That'll be one good thing to come out of this.

I suppose the chairman is waiting to speak to Frendo The managers will be feeling it the worst as they are kind of stuck in the middle I doubt if the other players will be affected too much
I suspect he'll be fined two weeks wages and be playing in a fortnight after being dropped to the bench for a couple of games

The 'voice' we will need to hear from at some point soon is John Frendo ... He won't be expecting a Spanish Inquisition! Their two chief weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency.

EFMTFTV, do you not think that dropping him to the bench might be counter-productive? Unless he's not in the right frame of mind to play, surely we're better off with him on the pitch rather than on the bench?
If he's fined two weeks' wages, he'd effectively be paying for free for a couple of weeks and he can make up some of the shortfall in his pay packet by smacking a few goals in.
I reckon the best thing would be to publicly announce whatever decision is made, draw a line under it and move on as swiftly and cleanly as possible. That sends a strong message and makes it less likely that the fans will bear a grudge.

I think James' tweet last night says it all. I would imagine there is big fall out between John and club/other players! Hope I am wrong and it can all be sorted. Sharing an office with 4 women I know their fall outs can go on for days/weeks but hopefully with us blokes it can be a swift argument followed by a couple of make up beers at the bar.

What makes the Frendo absence worse for me is that he also missed a lot of pre-season and a few early season matches. I understand there may be legitimate reason for these absences but for me if your employer is understanding when you face genuine personal issues you have a reciprocal reasonability not to take further time off for less legitimate reasons. Frendo is clearly our best striker but I think the lack of a proper pre-season has shown in his performances this season- he just does look as sharp or as fit as last season and is performances have, for me at least, he has been good rather than exceptional. Certainly he did look like player who would benefit from missing a game and a training session. If his absence on Saturday constitutes a sound legal basis to dismiss him and we can use his wages to fund the recruitment of a proven striker who can do a solid job at this level I think we should do this. If not than fine him and just get on with it - I would not drop him as looks like a player who needs more football not less. In a sense I can understand the silence from the club. You need to be clear about both your legal position and the potential of securing a replacement before deciding what to do.

He had better play out of his skin. The reaction surprised him - umm, we live for small moments, pay a small fortune in most of our terms to pay our players and then they go off on a beano on the most important day - honest but a bit upsetting.

Michael Mansfield has obviously helped John produce a very carefully worded statement which I sincerely hope was a heartfelt apology so we can all move on. Although I will not be one of them I imagine there will be a bit of 'Ballotelli boos' until John proves form and fitness again and smashes a 20 yard volley in the top corner. We need him on his best form to progress up this league. I just hope the other lads accept his apology so the team ethic remains.

As Boomer says, let's move on. The mistake has been made. Let him do it on the pitch - but, no pointless booing or chants about it.

My opinion is subject closed and move on more important matters of pushing up league, booing balotelli style will only harm team and performances. I thought even without JF Sat our players on pitch didnt do fa cup 4th qual justice and put in below par effort. We have to get over dissappointment and look to bolster play-off challenge. COYS

Frendo apologises for FA Cup absenceMichael Edwards John Frendo has issued an apology to St Albans City’s fans for missing Saturday’s FA Cup loss to Concord Rangers. Without their top striker, St Albans struggled to break down the Beachboys at Clarence Park and lost 1-0. The outcry from fans was fierce with many suggesting the club discipline or release Frendo. The club has instead imposed the maximum fine possible. Frendo released a statement on the club’s official website today which read: “I would like to apologise to all connected with St Albans City Football Club, especially our supporters, my team-mates and my managers Jimmy and Graham, for missing the game against Concord Rangers last weekend. “I recognise that the FA Cup is important to a club at our level, I regret missing the match on Saturday, the extent of the reaction surprised me. “The club has imposed a maximum fine upon me which I have accepted and I am now hoping to be able to make a positive contribution to our forthcoming league, Senior Cup and FA Trophy fixtures. I would like to add that I am enjoying my time at Clarence Park. “St Albans City is a great football club with super supporters. I am looking forward to training this week and to pulling on the yellow and blue shirt again.Once again I would like to say sorry to everybody who has a passion for the club, I hope for your support going forward.” A club spokesman added: “We wish to draw a line under this matter and no further comment is intended.” The Saints are preparing for an away trip to Bath City this Saturday, followed by a Herts Senior Cup tie at home to Cheshunt on Monday. www.hertsad.co.uk/sport/football/frendo_apologises_for_fa_cup_absence_1_3825335

St Albans City striker John Frendo fined and apologises after missing FA Cup defeatSt Albans City striker John Frendo has apologised and been handed a maximum fine by the club after missing their FA Cup defeat to Concord Rangers on Saturday. Frendo's absence has not been confirmed but it is understood the prolific striker was in Spain for the El Clasico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Frendo released the following statement on the club's website: "I would like to apologise to all connected with St Albans City, especially our supporters, my team-mates and my managers Jimmy and Graham, for missing the game against Concord Rangers last weekend. Sadly the national media are treating this as one big joke! And quite rightly. That's exactly what it is, to everyone else at least. As recentconvert said earlier, we'd be having a right good laugh if this was literally any other club's forward. As others have said, let's consider this the end of the matter and move on. Over to you, Mr. Frendo. You owe us some goals.
