Good positive stuff from Jimmy Gray in that interview.
What's been pleasing to see is that the management have reacted to the recent run and have made changes. I'm not a fan of change for change's sake but it was clear that things were not working out as well as they had been at the start of the season and something needed to happen.
By the way, when is the FA Trophy draw made? Must be soon, as we're in the next round.

A couple of views on yesterday's game from Basingstoke supporters.
Overall the best team won I thought. St.Albans were well on top in the first half and Stuart Moore brought off a series of fine saves to keep the score at 1-0. The second half was level and the St.Albans keeper had an amazing save from a deflected free kick. The man of the match was given to Stuart Moore and that was no surprise to anyone.
Poor display as far as i'm concerned and though we had chances I actually have to give credit to St Albans City's defense today and they made it tough for us to even get a good chance and any chances we did end up having was in truth half hearted the way I feel about it Thankfully for those who don't know Barnet beat AFC Telford 3-1 today which is the only good thing about any of todays result

The save va Beckles in the 2nd half from a corner was top drawer and probably save of the season

The save va Beckles in the 2nd half from a corner was top drawer and probably save of the season He made a save from Smith in the first half that I thought was even better. He somehow got down to the shot that Smith hit with the outside of his boot and was bending just inside the post with pace. Both keepers had really impressive games.

They are never afraid to make changes when things aren't working and it also seems they take note of fans comments about what is needed on this forum too. Gray and Golds are great guys as well as Managers

This was our best performance of the season by a distance and a great game between two good sides. We dominated totally for the first thirty minutes and could easily have been out of sight by half time, had we taken all our chances. For most of the second half, however, Basingstoke put us under immense pressure. Unfortunately for Basingstoke, though, our defence and midfield were magnificent and held firm to the end. A great all round team effort by the Saints and a terrific win, which was well deserved. The goalkeepers from both sides, Joe Welch and Stuart Moore both had outstanding games, making a succession of tremendous saves. The new boys - Ian Gayle, Omar Beckles and Charlie Smith look to be fine acquisitions, Gayle and Beckles both looked assured, were good in the air and added pace and some steel to the defence and holding midfield area, something that has been needed for a little while. Smith was excellent, two good feet, great ball control and not afraid to have a pop at goal. Three very good signings on Saturday's showing. Another to catch the eye was John Frendo. He worked tirelessly all afternoon, winning balls often that he had no right to win, holding the ball up, laying it off and generally giving the Basingstoke defence a very hard time.
One disappointing thing from yesterday, though - the idiot, in the main stand (with his kids, no less) and purporting to be a Saints supporter, who booed Frendo when his name was announced at the start of the game and again, cheered when he was subbed late on in the game. Absolutely pathetic.

I wondered why Locke wasn't even on the bench, I hope he's not missing too long

I did not and it was indeed a cracking game. Just found it somewhat childish and not really a great example to set to your kids, that's all.

Smith, Gayle and Beckles impress Gray at BasingstokeMichael Edwards Charlie Smith was one of two loanees that fired St Albans City to a momentum-shifting 1-0 win over Basingstoke Town on Saturday. The Luton Town 19-year-old scored the only goal of the game but joint manager James Gray was equally impressed with Dagenham and Redbridge loanee Ian Gayle and new signing Omar Beckles from Hornchurch. “I though Smith was excellent,” Gray told Saintsnet after the game. “I’d watched him a few times when he was at Hitchin Town. He’s a natural left-sided player, which gives us good balance down that side. “It was a great debut and a great goal. He’s a young lad whose come in and is determined to work because he wants to make the grade at Luton; if we can help then do that then it’s all well and good.” He added: “[Gayle] was outstanding – he’s exactly what we need; he’s got pace, very good aerially, talks well and clears his lines. He was superb. “We brought Omar in as a centre-half but we wanted to be strong in midfielder so we stuck him in there and he was outstanding.” www.hertsad.co.uk/sport/football/smith_gayle_and_beckles_impress_gray_at_basingstoke_1_3850392

Saints “coming to the end” of tough spell - GrayMichael Edwards James Gray believes St Albans City are “coming to the end” of a tough spell on and off the pitch. Three points from 15 in the Vanarama Conference South, an FA Cup exit marred by off-the-pitch controversy and an admission price nightmare for a Herts Senior Cup tie summed up the past five weeks at Clarence Park. But Saturday’s win over high-flying Basingstoke Town, excellent debuts from loanees Charlie Smith and Ian Gayle, from Luton Town and Dagenham and Redbridge respectively, has provided a light at the end of the tunnel. “I’m really pleased; it has been a tough couple of weeks,” Gray told Saintsnet. “We’ve had all sorts thrown at us but it feels like we’re coming to the end of it now. Hopefully we can get on a decent run going into Christmas.” The joint manager also revealed that a team meeting last week, where he and the players could air any grievances from the season so far, has brought a new level of “togetherness” from the squad. “We had a heart-to-heart with the lads. I felt some of them were on easy street; we need the players pushing each other and taking instructions from the managers on to the pitch, no matter whether you think it’s right or not,” he said. “That’s what happened [against Basingstoke] and all the lads put in a great shift – it was a great three points away from home but we’ve got to go and do it [in consecutive games] and get some consistency.” A win against Farnborough tonight at Clarence Park will go a long way to ending this current “tough spell” for good. Kick-off is 7.45pm. www.hertsad.co.uk/sport/football/saints_coming_to_the_end_of_tough_spell_gray_1_3850711
