Just seen the news that fans are to be segregated on Saturday. I'm a bit shocked by the decision as hadn't got the impression there is any possible trouble - and didn't think they had enough fans anyway (as one of worst supported teams in Conference South www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/global/attendances/)

Police request, quite possibly?

Daft request, certainly

Daft request, certainly Shame it adds more costs for us really.... But I suspect the issue is to do with who are likely to be attending with the Wood.

Tom Norman confirms decision made after discussions with police, security firm and Wood. As a relative newbie Saint (first game in FA Cup v Enfield in 2013 - my original hometown - but have been to majority of matches this season), is there any recent history if trouble?

However, slightly older posters can probably shed more light.

Both Watford and Stevenage are away on Saturday and Luton don't have a game. May have some bearing on a possible police request ?

So which square metre of the ground will be segregated to house their 10 fans?

Arsenal aren't playing until Sunday so some of the Scummers might be turning out for them as they do every now and then

I remember matches against Wood in the 70s and 80s. There was always rivalry but there were never big crowds. However, if you've ever been to Borehamwood you would know there are some rough old parts of it with some rather dubious characters. These individuals are known to come out from time to time. A small number can cause a big problem. It's certainly not the usual sparse Wood fans.

Rubbish.
Annoying enough to make me wonder whether non league football is worth bothering with.
It's a very minor thing in the grand scheme or things but it alters the experience significantly enough.
If I wanted to watch a game where people can't be trusted to stand alongside one another I'll go and watch my league team.

About the only time I have been concerned at a football match, maybe because I had my then young son with me at the time. The BW "fans" were particularly unpleasant and the presence of several police cars and if I remember correctly a police dog didn't approve the atmosphere. If my memory serves me right, EFMTFTV had a somewhat interesting evening.

I did, a double decker full of intimidating Borehamwood thugs and I was the only one arrested for possession of a flare
There was also a HCC cup game here in the early 00s that required the police to attend and then segregate the crowd and some older member will remember the league game in the late 90s when they all stormed the pitch

Does the club honestly think that the potential trouble makers will voluntarily go into the away end.

Does the club honestly think that the potential trouble makers will voluntarily go into the away end. Probably not but they are acting as responsibly as they can. Shame it only takes a few boneheads with barely half a brain cell between them. I sympathize with recentconvert's comments above but happily, segregation is still very much the exception rather than the rule in non league below conference premier.

They don't have a firm and couldn't sell out a phone box.
Bizarre decision.

It's only a minor annoyance. I'm a creature of habit and enjoy watching the team attack towards me in the second half. I also like a bit of a stroll round a ground if the mood takes me. However, if we aspire to get into the Conference then it's something we'd have every game.
I went to all three recent Hemel games in the league – the one where a few wallies got out of control at half-time and the police had to get involved and the two recent matches which were segregated as a result.
I assume that the costs of segregating and stewarding are less significant than being hit with a police bill. It's just a shame that the behaviour of a tiny minority spoils things for the rest of us.

So which square metre of the ground will be segregated to house their 10 fans? Bit rich, Probably the same small amount of room you needed at Vauxhall road with that pathetic turnout.

Why are Hemel fans commenting on this issue?
They should focus on getting a job and putting down the Special Brew.

I always find it amusing that a supporter of a club that could barely rustle 150 home fans 5 years ago can comment on crowds
Likewise if Borehamwood ever made the conference national they may have crowds the size of the current Hemel team

Small team with a small team mindset. They wouldn't be able to take 2500 fans away for the playoff final like we did. Even if Special Brew was given out for free, I would be surprised if Hemel could ever take more than 300 fans away.

At least half of your "fans" on play off final day had probably never been to a St Albans game before and where their because their was no Prem or Football League games.

Confident it was in the 2500 region.
We took over the ground and gave Chesham a real footballing lesson.
Was a great day.

At least half of your "fans" on play off final day had probably never been to a St Albans game before and where their because their was no Prem or Football League games. It wasn't anywhere near 2,500 but on the other hand it was a lot more than 1,000-1,200 as well and a lot of old faces that used to go to games turned out I bet a lot more than half of those there had been to see City play before. Not really much point a Chesham fan coming onto our forum to shout the odds when we probably outnumbered them at their own ground !
