Boomer sadly this will be Gayles last stint at St.Albans City this season as you can only have the same player on loan three times in a season so enjoy his performances. Unless of course we buy him . He was superb again yesterday especially when Locke had a shakey opening 20 mins, he covered superbly for him. I don't think we need many Players now to even out the balance of the side, but a defender to replace Gayle and a Goal scoring midfielder would be a start. If we get any players now we may need to take a Gamble at players in leagues below us. Their are plenty of decent players with potential that would be worth taking a gamble on. I think we have enough now to stay in this league and finish around mid table. Thanks for that, asaintreborn. I realise the total period allowable for short term loans over the season is 93 days (usually in 1 month stints). One question, though. In theory, could a short term loan situation be switched to a long term loan one, taking it through to the end of the season as long as that transaction takes place prior to 31 January? It seems to indicate, in the FA rules, that you can take out a long term loan between January and the end of the season as long as it happens in January by 31 January. It is not too clear, however, if you can change from one to the other. If that makes any sense. Just asking.

It's not clear but I don't think we can change it now, but like you said Boomer the ruling is unclear.

The second penalty I'd like to see again on a replay, but from first viewing it was in my mind a 100% a penalty. I wasn't a fan of the ref today however, I think he gets that right, he absolutely clatters Frendo without getting the ball. It is a clumsy challenge and if outside the box nobody would have complained if that was given as a free kick. I don't know where you were standing but Lord Frendo knew the ball was going over him and the defender was going to win the header so he backed into him and bent forward so the player went over the top of him but if he had of scored that would of made up for Malcolms wrongly disallowed goal anyway.

First time I've been able to go since before Christmas. Very good to see movement and support from the front pair/trio and what they also did was defend from the front. Although it was only a cameo, wasn't too impressed with the last sub (other new bloke who's name escapes me right now).
I didn't think the second penalty was a penalty - I thought it was a foul by Frendo. I thought the disallowed Malcolm goal was offside. It's two players, and he was ahead of the goalkeeper with the just the defender on the line behind him when he received it.
The noise was good. The stewards weren't.

I'm not convinced about the offside decision - it's whether he was offside when Frendo struck the ball rather than when Malcolm received it. The video unfortunately doesn't show enough to confirm either way.
The second penalty decision looked a bit harsh but that is what Frendo adds - he gets in the way of defenders and does get those decisions. I thought he had a great game and worked hard throughout - not allowing their defence to take their eye off of them.
Also thought Soetan showed some good promise - and created one decent chance for himself - given that this was his first outing at Conference South level. With a few more games, I think he could cause problems for some defenders at this level.

That's where I was standing and I wasn't happy at the time as Malcolm looked like he moved into that position from where he "scored" but felt he was onside when Frendo struck the ball. Just would have been nice to see a video replay confirming our view!

Watching the replay of the second penalty it's close one for me. Frendo Stands his ground which he is certainly entitled to do, he does not take a step backwards and back into him like you say. He used his experience their knowing that the defender coming from behind would make a challenge and if you ask me it was a clumsy one. He has to make sure he wins the ball otherwise he gives the referee a decision to make. Today that decision happen to be in our favour on another day that may have been waived away.

I couldn't make the game but from everything I've read it sounds like I've missed one of the best performances of the season.
Sounds like there were many positives. Great that Joe Welch has recovered. I agree with the comments above – he's a very accomplished goalkeeper at this level and still young. Also agree with the verdict on Howard Hall – although I also think Kyriacou has plenty to offer. Hall gets forward well and he links up nicely too but he's also solid defensively.
Gayle has been great to watch and if we've only got him for another month, let's enjoy it.
The three new signings are very encouraging – forward players with a bit of pace. I know that Wealdstone fans ran out of patience with Michael Malcolm but sometimes a player needs to find himself at a club that fits. My concern is that he apparently started quite well at Stones but quickly faded. Their complaints seem to be that he has plenty to offer but a reluctance to offer it. Jamal Lowe I liked last season and if he's not getting the chances to play at Barnet then hopefully we can benefit.
One of the things that intrigues me about non-league football is how many players come and go and how quick the churn-rate is. If nothing else, the management have been decisive when need be. They've made their minds up on plenty of players this season and let them go but they have also brought in some improvements to the squad.
I still think the play-offs might be a bit of a stretch, particularly after Havant won today, but rather than settle for safety and slip away into mid-table obscurity it would be good to finish strongly and put the building blocks in place for next season. We've not been consistent enough this season but we can match the best teams in the division.

Another good post by recentconveet. If we can finish in the top 8 that'll be a very pleasing first season back in this division.

No he never moved backwards towards the player at all did he, try watching before the ball comes back across Specsavers. yes he stops once he knows the defender has committed himself ! I didn't need to watch a reply to know that I saw it clearly on the day

Cheers for actually arguing my point for me! At the point he is backing up there is no one near him. He is more than entitled to do that, he takes a look over his shoulders and can see the player has committed and stands still which again he is more than entitled to do. He's used all experience knowing if he stands their the defender will clatter him, it's a stupid challenge that does not need to be made, all he needs to do is get tight as he had two other team mates charging straight at Frendo in better positions to make the challenge. If he continued to back into the player I guarantee the ref would have blown the other way. Just to clear something up Hatboy this is a forum where people share opinions, just because you don't share the same opinion as someone else doesn't mean you should throw insults ("specsavers" unless your referring to something else) I then retract this, if not show some class.

I've just watched the video highlights... It appears that no one is standing behind the goal at the Hatfield Road end during the first half, when we were attacking it.
Is there any reason why? It wasn't segregated again was it?

Covered in frozen snow and ice - so closed for health and safety.

As Barker says, closed for those reasons.
The club had attempted to clear it in the morning, but there was a sheet of ice below the snow, and even if they'd gotten rid of it, it was more than likely to freeze back up again once the sun went down. That end of the pitch still had some snow on also.

A bit of fun - recording of some singing from the York Road terraces (second half):

Will he be returning? Do we need to hire him

He's a Middlesbrough season ticket holder. Sadly it means he won't get to many games. He came down as a favour for the Germans last week.

Should hire a band rather than the bouncers.
Would improve the atmosphere.
