Maybe we should operate with a 14 man squad ?
Staines are probably doomed. But others can get away from the bottom of the table and might. With our dysfunctional strike force we might struggle to win more than 2 more games, Weston, Hayes etc. will be fighting to survive, and Concord away is tough. The home game with Wealdstone might be significant, and they have improved. 45 points might be enough, but you never know. Thank goodness it is only 2 down this season.
Maybe everyone else feels confident about us staying up ?

It seems to me that we compete with all teams but appear to lose games by the odd goal when we should draw or draw when we should win e.g. Basingstoke last week. Let's hope for 3 points next week.

It was a difficult match and a difficult pitch. Ultimately we made 2 mistakes that gave them 2 goals and they made 1 mistake that gave us our goal. As the game started and we fell behind I was very concerned that pre-Gayle era defending had returned (post his leaving) but to be fair we did seem to defend better as the game progressed. Their second goal was from a rare Welch mistake but was as much due to the pitch which caused the ball to bobble up and come away from him to be smashed into the net by Nielson. In the second half we matched them, stopped them creating much at all and nearly nicked an equaliser when Kaloczi had a great header back across the goal that just went the wrong side of the post.
Before the Havant match I'd been worried that we would have a run of 3 games against top six teams and end up with nothing. So I'm pleased we have managed to come out with a couple of draws - but want to see us push on over the next few weeks where I'd expect us to build on our recent performances against top teams and take 3 points from a number of teams that are around us in the league table.

Sam Corcoran has now been booked in eight of the the last 10 league matches he has played in. By my calculations, which may be wrong, adding the yellow he got in the Herts Senior Cup means he only has to collect two more bookings to get a three-match ban.

By my calculations, which may be wrong, adding the yellow he got in the Herts Senior Cup means he only has to collect two more bookings to get a three-match ban. Well, that's something to aim for! I like Corcoran a lot but his back chat to the officials is really irritating. I'm sure he thinks he's gaining the team an advantage by being in the ref's ear all the time, that he's showing he's the guv'nor on the pitch, but I'm not convinced. How many games this season has he played out with a yellow card over him, knowing that one mis-timed challenge could mean a red card? Does this affect players psychologically? I think it possibly does. Our lack of discipline has cost us on a number of occasions this season, and last. Too many red cards and suspensions mean key players miss important matches. A poor challenge I can forgive. Persistent petty fouling, cynical fouls and talking your way into the book is avoidable.

Think Saturday must have been Coms first full 90 minutes on the pitch since Boxing Day - thought he played okay considering both that and the sandpit he was playing on...

Probably the worst pitch we have had to play on for a number of seasons. Frankly, it was a disgrace.
When Whitehawk visited us back in November, I thought they were the best side we had faced all season and after yesterday, I still think that, based on those two performances. It was virtually impossible to play passing football but give both sides their due, they did make an effort to. On the face of it, Whitehawk only had two chances to score, both of which they duly took after our defensive lapses and we also had two, one put away by Beckles and the other, a decent header from Kaloczi which was only a matter of inches wide. That is probably where any similarities ended. Whitehawk pretty much won every 2nd ball during the game and were always in control of the midfield. We were second best for most of the game but against a side containing the amount of quality players that Whitehawk do, it wasn't entirely unexpected. To compete with that quality, you have to up your work rate considerably (as we did against Concord in January). Yesterday, it just never really happened. I felt that if the game had been on a good surface yesterday, we may well have lost by a much heavier score line. The playing surface yesterday was certainly of no benefit to Whitehawk. The positives from yesterday - Beckles was superb with Chappell not too far behind but generally too many passes continued to go astray all over the field. Frendo did ok with not a lot of support and Lowe did well against their excellent ex-Reading and Wycombe rb, Nick Arnold. That is an indication of the type of quality we were up against but, for a the life of me I couldn't understand why Lowe was taken off and replaced by Soetan. It certainly wasn't an improvement, very much the opposite. The negatives - yet again we lose concentration and concede close to half time. Very difficult to take yesterday, especially, as only 5 or 6 minutes earlier, we had got ourselves back into the game with the equaliser. Disappointing.
Onwards and upwards to Wealdstone next Saturday. We need to go for the throat and start how did against Basingstoke last week and 3 points will be there for the taking.
COYS!

My memory of the game at CP is the large number of the boys who had taken part in the half time penalty shoot out and their parents streaming out of the ground at the start of the second half oblivious to the fact that Sergio Torres was putting on one of the best midfield performances seen at the Park for many years. What a waste.
I don't really understand the point of a club like Whitehawk trying to compete at this level. If you take away the temporary stands, there is nothing there. The pitch was absolutely terrible - not worthy of the standard of player at the club and they hardly had any fans.
I've read their Chairman's article from the programme several times and I still haven't got a clue what it is all about.

Ha - yeah what was that all about. I've encountered plenty of naff management speak over the years but that waffle from the chairman beat the lot!
