There were never 117 Saints supporters there today. I counted 120 odd Saints supporters in the away bar an hour before the game. Double that figure and you might be close. Believe or not, this was a very decent performance by the Saints and 3-1 would have been a far more accurate reflection of the game. 2 goals in the last 10 minutes, when we were very, very tired tarnished the scoreline somewhat unfairly. In fact at 2-1, Grimsby were very clearly rattled and an upset looked a distinct possibility. The problem is that where you may be able to get away with defensive errors in the National League South, for the most part, you probably won't get away with them in the league above. Coms was outstanding today and easily the best player of the 22 on the pitch. Excellent performances, as well, from Ben Nunn and Theo, whose finish for the goal was superb.
All the boys played their hearts out today in what was an entertaining game. Well done lads! If we can continue applying that to the upcoming league games, we can start moving in the right direction in the league table.

Totally agree and at 2-1 I thought we were going to get something - we were on fire. Unfortunately........

It would be easy to dismiss this defeat due to playing against a better team with better players, but there is a much bigger issue. Why did we set up such an attacking team ? Did we think we could just outscore them ? I quite like Montgomery, and Krans has great acceleration, but they are both 'lightweights',playing both together against a team of Grimsby's standing was tantamount to suicide. We don't appear to have learnt anything from the Whitehawk debacle whatsoever. Corcoran was my man of the match, especially as he was doing the jobs of three men. If I was a member of S.B.Y.S. I would be asking for my money back, you paid a FEE for Scot Thomas I read on here that the radio commentator 'slammed' our free kick deliveries, why is Chappell allowed anywhere near them ? I have great respect for Mr Boomer but I do not agree with his assessment that if we keep playing like that we will rise up the league. from where I was sitting in the main stand 117 saints supporters looked about correct.Fair play to the boys who made it today and made a bit of noise, but it was a paltry turnout from us (whatever the exact number was) considering this was the First Round of the F.A.Cup.

Well said Boomer - I felt incredible pride in team and supporters today. At least 200 made the journey and made a huge noise. The team worked tireless against a strong Grimsby team and as you say had them really rattled at 2-1

Great day and brilliant support , must say the Grimsby massive , people , security , bar staff were top class . We competed really well what showed was fitness and technical ability not massively but enough , the ability to hold the ball up front which gives the midfield an opportunity to be involved and also puts pressure on their centre halfs which didn't happen . Graham Montgomery prob had his worst performance for a long time he can be great outlet but just struggled today . Comms was great as was sammy but the real blow was prob the goal in the 47 th min the half time team talk would have been so much different at 1 nil . Where were the owners on prob the biggest day this season ? Onward and upward⚽️⚽️

I would agree that the Saints support was certainly more than 117. The mistake by Chappers for the 2nd goal certainly came at the wrong time, just before half-time. For the 5 minutes after we scored, to make it 2-1, felt we had a chance to level but the 3rd goal was the killer. Comley at the back was superb today and Theo's goal was quality.
Need to start picking up points in the league over the next few games though.

I just watched the highlights. Very good goal by Theophanous, but we looked pretty hopeless for their 3rd, 4th and 5th goals with Grimsby players just skipping past our defenders at will. The 2nd goal is bad luck really, and at a bad time, but again the defence seems to be all over the place in the lead up to it. Maybe the highlights give a distorted impression but we looked very vulnerable at the back, and that concerns me for the struggle we face in the league. How did Ben Martin play overall ?
Well done to everyone who travelled, looked like a good turnout from our fans, but from the attendance figures reported it looks like more than a 1000 regular Grimsby' fans had something better to do !

Yep definitely more than 117 there today. Could someone explain why you don't receive a ticket when paying at the gate for cup games ?? Very friendly people at the ground and at the pubs in town. Cheers for your hospitality!!!

Was surprised to see him play TBH due to the recent form of Locke and Comley there Had Comley moved back to midfield I wouldn't have had any complaints about Ben playing Locke must be pisssd off

Im going to agree with a lot of the comments already posted. Comley was exceptional, the second unfortunate goal killed us at a bad time, Corkers was very impressive, and we scored the best goal of the game and Grimsby were rocking until their third goal but Im going to sound like a stuck record here but WTF is Scott Thomas doing in our great side. The bloke is an absolute liability and I only found out yesterday that we had paid money for him!!He lost possession and misplaced passes all game and I find it hard to believe he was left on the pitch when we started using our subs. Every supporter that I have spoken to has the same opinion as me. What does James see in him? Its a bloody mystery and I am very reluctant to be critical of the managers who have been great for the Saints and apparently are not even be paid for the effort they put in. 5-1 was in no way a fair reflection of the game. With the great vocal support we had we played very well for long spells and Grimsby full time fitness and small extra quality told in the end. Hopefully this performance can give us a boost for the league games coming up. Not sure how much we will be paid by Grimsby as I am sure the official figure was a bit light of what was actually in the ground plus all kids were admitted for a quid so they can bump up that figure too. Lastly well done to the very patient Grimsby stewards who gave the idiot every chance but he eventually ran out of lives and they marched him out. These games have only come round 4 or 5 times in the 45 years I have been supporting the Saints so why spoil it by getting smashed, acting like a complete knob, and missing most of the match!

Well, in the end it was a comfortable win for us but the final scoreline didn't really tell the tale of the game. A poor error in your defence gifted us our 2nd just before half-time, and up until we scored our 3rd you were well in the game and had a couple of decent chances to equalise in that 10 minute spell after you scored. If you had equalised then no doubt it could well have been a very different story.
Well done to you fans (apart from the idiot who spoilt the pre-match minutes silence) who did themselves proud, supporting the team to the end. I hope you all enjoyed the day, if not the result.
Also, thanks for providing us with one of the funniest moments seen at Blundell Park for a while with the fruitless attempt to unfurl those banners. I think we managed to make out #pray and sinkholes (I am aware there was a problem with a sinkhole in St Albans) before the chap who seemed to be in charge lost his rag and ended up throwing the various pieces of the banner all over the place before getting himself thrown out. A classic moment was that.
Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season and hopefully you will soon start climbing the table.

Tough result against a strong team.
Seeing Chesham win away at Bristol Rovers / Maidenhead draw away at Port Vale - it is frustrating always labelled as the "played well in patches but just not good enough"
I have been one of Ben Martins critics this season - but he played well on Saturday and coped well with that big striker Omar Bogle.
Comley looked good in phases - silly challenge to give away in a dangerous position. He wasn't the best player on the field either. He may have scraped onto Grimsbys bench.
Would rather have seen him play in his actual position of CM and Locke at CB as we simply had nothing in the Midfield.
Cracking goal from Theo and a decent 10 minute spell after - but we couldn't keep up our concentration!

Lets get one thing straight, Ben played well on Saturday cos he had a quick centre back playing with him. Ben is past his best but is still a threat at set pieces which is always crucial in our standard. Look at the video and the way their sub walked through our defence for the fourth goal should send shivers to us all. Coms was easily our best player and I hope he stays and continues to play at CB as I feel we need his perception and control rather than the big hoof! Totally agree though with JJ123 it was a silly challenge for their first goal and had we gone in 0-0 at half time their dressing room would have been on edge. With Cockers back and Scott Thomas dropped to the under 12's(unfortunately beard too long) I feel we have a chance of progressing from the Grimsby performance. PS Dunstable Town seem to be our reserves at present and they could probably beat us in league footie. We need a big win tomorrow. COYS
