That has to be our worst result for a very long time... The 6-0 hammering at Whitehawk was bad but considering the money they have available not entirely unexpected. To lose to a team below us, who we beat only a month ago, in this manner is very worrying. I can see a few players leaving the club soon as the management try to fix the problems in the field.

A terrible result. Are any of the hardy souls who made the long journey able to say how well (poorly) we played?
It's starting to look pretty sticky. I genuinely believed that grinding out a 1-0 win over Wealdstone marked the beginning of a move up the table. Losing narrowly to WSM would have been a poor result simply because of our positions in the table. But getting whacked 4-1 really takes the wind out of the sails, especially with a top six side, Gosport, visiting on Tuesday.
Casper, I'd be interested to know who you think needs to be on their way and what that might achieve? Surely the players we have are the best available to us in our price range. We've had a number of ins and outs. Is more upheaval the answer?
I wonder at what point people will consider the future of the managers.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's up to the players on the pitch to sort out their performances and hope the results follow, I just wonder how much patience there is at the top.
After 16 games we are still 7 points short of the 20 point target the chairman set for the first 10 matches...

Didn't go as am heading off on a business trip so getting the gory details whilst waiting for a flight from Heathrow... however, from what I've heard, that was dire today against a team that we should be at the very least getting a draw from.
I do believe we have enough quality in the squad to get out of this mess but something has to change. We can't afford to change the squad anyway but we have got to create more chances for Louie. He appears to be too often out on the left and the midfield just doesn't seem to be set up to play balls in to his feet. His goal to chances ratio must be fantastic as he seems to score nearly every clear chance he is given (actually I only recall Weston in the FA Cup when he had a clear cut chance and didn't score).
Before this weekend I thought 3 points from Weston but a beating from Gosport (who beat Oxford City away today). I'm now very worried about that game on Tuesday...

On my way back. Full synopsis to follow, save to say that our showing was an embarrassment and our worst performance of the season by very, very long distance and there are obvious reasons for this, which others will also, no doubt, elucidate on later. Coms was again outstanding but it will come as no surprise that he cannot do the work of 11 men. Ben Nunn had a very good game and all the subs (Green, Meade and Sow) worked exceptionally hard, injecting much needed pace in the last 20 minutes, with Coms playing higher up the field and directing operations. If only the first 70 minutes had equated with the last 20. Theo did well, especially as he was playing hopelessly out of position wide left and took his goal brilliantly with an impudent backheel.
In general, a very depressing afternoon.

We've had a number of ins and outs. Is more upheaval the answer? Listen to the James Gray interview after the Grimsby game and he was giving the players 2-3 weeks to improve otherwise the management would look to make changes to the squad. Question is how long can we continue playing as we are and still remain in the relegation places ? We are now 4 points from safety after todays games. The longer it goes on the harder it will be climb the table.

Didn't go either,. But who should be centre backs. Ben &. Coms , Ben. & Locke , Locke & Comms . Goal ratio should decided ??

We seem to be covered in all areas but do we only have one left back who I guess as captain is first on team sheet ?

Meade can play left back and is a more than adequate one.

It was painful today. Big mistakes at the back - poor touches to let strikers in on goal, ball watching as midfielders break past etc.... these are the same mistakes we have seen all season. It has to be down to the players or the coaching. We have seen these guys play OK before, so what has changed? Has every other team found another 20% of quality this season....? Doubt it....
The performance felt pretty spineless. City looked better with comley further forwards. Again, he was the star today. Meade added energy & good crossing.
This side desperately needs another 1 or 2 centre backs, some creativity & pace in midfield and a ram marwa replacement.

Jesus, I really don't know where to start ,this was a truly woeful performance in what was a 'must not lose' fixture. What became glaringly obvious to me after the Whitehawk fiasco but seems to have escaped the notice of the management is that we are a soft touch. Every team in the league must look forward to their fixture with us, as soon as we concede the game is over. We have the wrong attitude. We should have realised after the hiding at Whitehawk that we were in a relegation battle.I don't get the impression that the management or the players have realised the seriousness of the situation. I think it was Albert Einstein who said that the first sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We set up up the same way over and over and get exactly what we deserve . Time for Levy and McGowan to realise that we will be back in the Southern League unless they make a change. I think today was the smallest number of Saints supporters I have seen at an away fixture in the last four years, and I can honestly say that I will not be spending another five and a half hours on the motorway if I have to watch another pile of crap like that .

Very worrying. We clearly have some sub-standard players in defence, but there are other defences in this league as bad, but more alarming is the fact that we are not scoring enough goals.
On paper the squad looks reasonably strong, and I wouldn't expect us to be in the bottom 3, but in practice we are seriously under-performing. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, the managers can do, but they certainly need to start winning a few games or our local derby next Christmas might be with Kings Langley.

I am far from convinced. I was merely reflecting on what James Gray had said at Grimsby and therefore what is likely to happen after the disasterous result today.

Just watched 2nd epiosde of salford fc , sacked manager and got promoted . It probably helps that they are owned by 4 multi millionaires. Today was a disgrace. I don't know what Ben Martin has to do to get dropped. There were no positives to take from today at all.

I didn't go, so I can only go on what's being said here. I do find it surprising that a member of a defence that shipped four goals can be described as 'outstanding'. Don't get me wrong, I think Comley is a classy player but conceding four to a team that's second bottom and had scored only 14 in 16 league matches before today suggests that none of the defence could be described as outstanding. I know, though, that defending is a team effort and not just down to the back four but perhaps we miss Comley in midfield, where he can be a first line of defence with his combative play, as well as a threat going forward.
I don't know, I was thinking that it has been a desperate start to the season but we're almost at the halfway mark and there are nowhere near enough points on the board.
Listening to Jimmy's interviews and he always says the right things and talks about wanting more from the players, putting things right and working hard in training but the players aren't getting the job done.
Pressure is on now – we need to pull off a win against Gosport somehow and then beat Margate and Basingstoke and hope we're not in the bottom three at Christmas.

At ht and ft at today's game there was a few words being exchanged between their number 6 and Crawford.
Crawford also approached the ref at ht and it later came to light that their player apparently spat down the back of Harry's neck. Disgusting if true.

Pressure is on now – we need to pull off a win against Gosport somehow and then beat Margate and Basingstoke and hope we're not in the bottom three at Christmas. Just because we 'ship' four goals does not mean the blame should be laid totally on the defence, far from it. For large parts of the game, especially during the opposition's three goal scoring spree, our midfield was non existent and WSM took full advantage. Not only that, no one was holding up the ball upfront. When the ball continues to keep coming back, it can put immense pressure on the defence. After every game, a vote is taken by our supporters (10 and it was a struggle finding 10 today) on the Saints Player of the Match and of the 10 votes taken today, they were split between Comley, Nunn and Theophanous, with Comley picking up the greatest amount on the day. The voting is done individually and independently. I would suggest that not all 10 of those supporters are wrong. As someone said earlier on this thread, the set up today was totally wrong and I have to agree. We play our main goal threat, Theophanous, wide left instead of upfront leading the attack and leave Montgomery, the best crosser of the ball we have (who set up our winning goal last week) on the bench. If we are going play balls to a target man upfront, we need someone who is going to be able to actually win the ball in the air. We could have waited forever for that to happen this afternoon. One thing I would say is that we had two gilt edged chances to score in the first half and didn't take either. It would probably been a little unjust on WSM, if we had taken them but, frankly I don't really care. We would likely then have come home with the three points. Some very ineffective performances out there today by a number of players. Quite clearly, some of those players are definitely good enough but didn't do it for one reason or another today. Others, a couple in particular, are not and it is costing us big time. Just my opinion but a lot agree with me.
