As many fans will be aware, the coming season sees some big clubs arriving into the NLS and many budgets being significantly more competitive than the Saints - especially given the ongoing challenges regarding a potential new ground.
First team manager, Ian Allinson, explained to the Herts Ad recently that:
“We are going with the same budget as last year which is fair enough as the owners have a responsibility first and foremost to their families.
“The problems with the new ground has set everybody back.
“There are players out there who we would love to sign and who would love to come to the club but we can’t afford them.
“We only need three or four but it has to be the right players for the right price.
“It’s difficult to compete financially with some of the clubs in this league and with two or three players we weren’t in the ball park.
“Their demands were very high but it’s the way the market is.
“I’m talking to Isthmian and Southern League players and even their demands are too much.”
The supporter run Boost the Budget scheme is our way of helping Ian to strengthen his squad. We already collect enough funds to contribute £400 per month but ideally need to increase this. Many other clubs in our league have similar successful schemes - our neighbours and rivals Hemel Hempstead used their scheme (the Beard Tax) to bring back Jordan Parkes to the club. Even if you can afford just £1 per week, you will be making a big difference.
