It sounds like there were discipline/attitude issues, with him not turning up for training on more than one occasion. Seems like he got his head turned when clubs in the league above were showing interest and maybe wasn't willing to knuckle down after he came back from injury. He was very quick to leave Enfield last year when he had a slow start and head back to Haringey, so this isn't anything new.
It reminds me a bit of Theo and Frendo. Players with incredible talent that didn't quite have the discipline and work ethic to make the most of what they had.

Reminds you of Frendo? Frendo found his level and enjoyed staying there rather than pushing himself to go higher - I don't think it was down to discipline and work ethic

Yeah maybe. Frendo did seem content to be a big fish in a small pond, more than the other two. Would disagree that discipline and work ethic weren't an issue with him. He was out of shape and the whole "el clasico" debacle showed a lack of commitment.

I'm not saying they weren't an issue, I'm saying it wasn't discipline and work ethic that stopped him making the most of what he had

Do not put Frendo and Gabriel in the same category.
One is a goal machine at this level, and the other is solid enough.
I wish we had a 16 man squad full of players with bad attitudes who banged in double figure goals.

Yep completely agree. The attitude problem doesn't bother me if he's doing the business on the pitch.
Not sure why he's chosen to leave. Maybe he was frustrated about being on the bench in recent weeks and presumably has had some clashes with IA over disciplinary issues.
From what I've seen this season, he's got the ability to play at a higher level. But there's a reason he's in his late 20s and not played above tier 7 until now.

I will always back IA.
If Ralston has a big ego after performing for a quarter of the season, he isn't right for SACFC.
Good luck with whatever he does, but he should be trying to mimic Junior and getting into league football.

Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of the thing but surely Ralston done enough early in the season to warrent a contract for the rest of the season? Maybe his lack of commitment to the club in part reflected our lack of commitment to him? If he signed said contract and then missed training etc I assume that would constitute a breach of contract and he could be sacked. When fully fit I think he in our first 11 and general rule should we not be aiming to tie down our regular starters to prevent stuff like happening mid season

I think we did try and tie him down to a contract after the great start, but there was interest from the league above so he (understandably) didn't want to. It's possible we could have got him on a contract in the summer, but would have been a punt considering he was going up two divisions.

This is ridiculous, it is like Theo all over again. Arent you supposed to put your arm around your most talented players even when they have a strop ?? So, Merson gets to play now only because Gabriel has done the off ??

He didn't want to be on the bench any longer? So, and if that's true, Ian / Glenn didn't give him any assurances in order to persuade him to stay?

If he’s gone back to Harringey, perhaps he just wants to be a big fish in a little pool?

He was being a big fish in our pool - leading goalscorer and all that
We have a funny way with our top goalscorers, don't we?

I personally don’t think Gabriel is any better then Merson or Moyo when they’re all at their best. If he wasn’t willing to fight for his spot after an injury and going off the boil a bit then he’s not worth anything to the club. Don’t need players like that around camp. Good luck to him at harringey but 9 league goals doesn’t just make you a starter every game. You need to produce week in week out and be willing to be dropped when performance wasn’t there. Merson got 25 goals for us last year and Zane was great and yet they can’t get a run of games for us this year. Yet to see an interview or article in which they have caused problems or looked for an out. We move on without ralston, no point dwelling. Come on you Saints!

Hmmmm .... Well if that's the case, what he said, then thats it, but l wonder how much the Club persuaded Ralston to stay ? Not enough obviously. Ralston was coming back from injury wasn't he ? Surely he must realize that he is only going to be eased back in slowly, that's what happens when you are coming back from injury, and the team getting poor results mean that in the next game, you are in with a shout, but Ralston must've taken all of it in consideration and good luck to him in his current venture, back at Harringey, l wish him well. We move on with Sam and David up front and l am sure our management team will get someone else in, in due course.

We currently have a squad of 14 fit players, at least one or two of whom IA clearly doesn't see as starters, plus the mysterious Mr.McCorkell. IA himself said he wasn't going to bring in another striker to replace Ralston Gabriel, but what is he going to do ?
The squad is too small, the bench is too weak and there is still no meaningful leadership on the pitch.

so if you are a player and you get called into a meeting with Tom Norman and IA it probably isn't going to end well.

Completely respect Ralston's decision to go back to Haringey. He owes us nothing and I'm grateful for the goals he scored earlier in the season. At the same time I'm not sure the club has done anything wrong. He missed training on a number of occasions and has chosen to leave after a few weeks on the bench. Presumably we were easing him back in after his injury. He's played minutes every game and even started against Gloucester. He was very much in the picture in a way that Sam really hasn't been at times this season. I'll take his word for it that he hasn't had a falling out with IA, so can't really see how the club could have dealt with him differently.

Good riddance. We don't need him. Goals will come however I personally think that we need to switch up the formation as it doesn't allow for players like khale Ben and Zane to play in their preferred positions meaning we dont get the best out of them and not shoehorning them in. I agree we need another player, personally would like to see a loan player from a big club. Look at the likes of musonda at oxford or janneh from Torquay. But 14 players with 2 being goalees isn't enough for this tough period of games...
