How can wealdstones budget be lower if they can afford all the quality theyve got plus Ross Lafayette? I gather – from someone pretty well connected to the club – that their overall budget is lower than last year, but that may well be more a reflection of how high their overall spend was last year.

Really enjoyed the game - haven't said that for a long time about visiting Clarence Park. Saints played better than they have for some time. Wealdstone just a class above in terms of accuracy of passing and running into space. Almost got a draw. Totally agree about the drum. If you are going to bring one then at least beat it according to some sort of rhythm. Actually felt sorry for the stadium announcer. It's easy to sneer, but it's not something everyone can do well.

It may very well be but they’re traditionally a bigger club and get bigger crowds, certainly this season. They also have a thriving and quite large clubhouse which is in use several times a week, not just on match days. They can host events, bands and so on. I expect opening up for Premier League fans whenever there’s a game at Wembley probably brings in a few quid too.
I’m not sure they own the ground but I think they’re able to generate revenue from it in a way Saints probably can’t, which I imagine is a big advantage.

I bet Wealdstones budget is much higher than ours still Why do you say that? They only finished two points higher than us last season, also this season it sounds like the owners / fans are putting in 33% more to the club than last season - I know not all of that will go on the budget but we must be increasing ours a little, surely?

Wealdstone have one of the larger budgets in the league and have had for a number of seasons. It is significantly higher then ours. Why do you think we are signing players from a club at Biggleswade's level?

Why do you think we are signing players from a club at Biggleswade's level? Two from Biggleswade. Where did Bawling come from? RMW? Foxley from Hungerford, Joe I (released) from Northampton.
Do you know for a fact that Wealdstone's budget is significantly higher than ours, or are you just assuming that's the case?

Do you know the budget for every club in the league, or just us and Wealdstone?

It's not difficult to find these things out, I'm amazed people think that it's a big secret. The clue's in the size of the squad, the quality of player and I would also throw in the size of the back-room staff.

Oh right well if it's that simple and the clues are all right there and all you need to look at is the size of the squad, the size of the backroom staff and the completely objective 'quality of player' (marked out of 10, by any chance?) presumably you could tell us exactly where we are in the league budget table

The clue's in the size of the squad, the quality of player and I would also throw in the size of the back-room staff. The clue is in the intelligent recruitment of players. The new management team targeted quality players who are relatively local (not from the M4 corridor as under the previous regime) and who were offered decent but not outrageous terms (again compared to the silly money thrown around the last two years). Money was freed up by ending extravagant contracts. The club rent The Vale from its Indian owners but the social club is indeed very successful and cleverly managed. Their playing budget is however now hovering between mid table and the play off places while St Albans is only a notch lower. As I said, intelligent recruitment and clever management is the key. That leads to a happy club.

The likes of Lafayette, Green, Okimo and North don't come cheap, Wealdstone have been well funded for the last few years.

Didn't they announce two new investors recently? You mean they have actively looked for investors and have been successful in acquiring them? I wonder if our owners have ever considered doing the same thing to ease the financial strain....................................................

What's mad is it would actually ease the financial strain if they put the ticket prices back to (the still expensive) £15 and stopped offering concessions to almost anybody

Well, the club was offered a significant financial gift on condition matchday admission prices were returned to £15 and the owners (or one of them at least) turned it down.
Considering that was a no-strings offer of financial support, I wonder if SACFC is an appealing prospect for people who might want to invest on the basis of getting some sort of stake, say or return on that investment?
