Quite a bad looking injury for Shields. A lot of concern. Management team (Howell and all) lifting him on to the stretcher.

Hope it's not as bad as it sounds. Not what we, or Sean himself, needs at the moment.

Up to 12th in the table, three points being Stourbridge who have a +23 better goal difference than us.

Unfortunatley the injury to Sean sheilds was the only downer today, on what can only be described as a solid performance. The pairing of Furlong and Martin up front was very effective, both holding up the ball nicely to bring others into play. Howell gave a debut to Hyde who had a solid first game, he showed great composure on the ball and always made himself available to recieve the ball. He played two delightful 30 yard balls across field to Simon Martin, with relative ease in the first 10 mins. Gray and Cutchey at the back is the way to go! We still need another centre back to support those two incase of injury or suspension.
Second Half was all about securing the three points and maintaining the clean sheet. It was very much a, you can have the ball, but we will counter you on the break scenario. There are still areas on the field that need improvement but it's a step forward atleast!

What really impressed me was our ability to get the ball down and play simple passes around the pitch, we didn't look straight for route one.

A great all round team performance and a clean sheet, James Gray was immense today, scoring a brace and a pillar of strength at the heart of defence. Let's hope this is the sign of things to come

Note that James Gray was captain today, and he fitted into that role perfectly!

Oh and another point I forgot to mention was the improvement of communication on the pitch. Gray, Cutchey, Hyde and Furlong were constantly barking instructions to organise the team. Sometime i feel it's far to quiet out there!

Life is worth living again ! Firstly best wishes to Sean Shields - that looked nasty, so sad as he was having a very good game. A sound performance all round, Hyde's passing and a more controlled Ijaha ,and an outstanding James Gray made this reasonably comfortable. Not sure of the value of the win,but let us hope we have stopped the rot.

Gray and Cutchey at the back is the way to go! I wouldn't get too carried away yet it is one clean sheet against one of the poorest attacking sides (albeit with Frendo) and with Gray although a very good defender but who has a suspect disaplinary record ! I'll wait to pass any judgement

It's not about getting carried away Hatboy. But when things aren't going great, people are to quick to criticise, regarding James Gray on his disciplinary-maybe he wears his heart on his sleeve, and maybe we are where we are coz there hasn't been enough of that :-)

Two teams on equally dreadful form but we got the points which is good, bigger tests to come - Cambridge next week are bottom of the form table so we need to build on this, getting wins against teams out of form will only help our own confidence. We got a bit carried away a few weeks ago after wins over Eversham and a draw against Brackley. Chesham (5th) on Boxing Day is the real test

I think best city performance of season, defence determined to keep clean sheet, lets hope we have turned corner, still need to improve squad sooner than later, but positive signs. Lets get behind boys next two weeks against strong teams. All best to Sean Shields. COYS

After the horrors of last season and relegation. I would be happy for a mid table finish for this season. We have a new manager in Howell at, for him. a new club, a new challenge for him if you like.
A mid table finish could be seen as regrouping for a possible promotion challenge next season. As long as we don't suffer another relegation then I would be happy. If you go for promotion straight away then it can somtimes rebound on some club.
Better to regroup, find your level, then challenge in the 2nd or 3rd season with a different group of players. I think.

Well done you Saints! A number of good performances, especially from the likes of James Gray, Micah Hyde and Paul Furlong. The major downside was the injury to Sean Shields. I wish him all the best in his recovery. Most pleasing was the clean sheet but then Hitchin rarely threatened anything coming forward after we took the lead. I spoke to some Hitchin fans after the game who were understandably frustrated by their team's poor performance along with the team selection and formation. So we shouldn't get too carried away, as the Canaries were poor, but this was still a great result for the Saints with plenty of positives to pick out of the team performance. Let's see if we can take this performance into the game with Cambridge City. I really hope that the result yesterday will bring more confidence into the team and what we really need now is a consistent starting XI, as much as is possible, to try to get a run of form going. Much better performance against a poor side, very impressed with Gray,Hyde and Martin, James was a real leader on that pitch you could here him organising everyone just what we need, Hyde gave us that little bit of quality in the middle always looking for the ball and can pass the ball around very well, im sure if we would of stepped it up a bit second half we could of beaten them 5-0 6-0 but the 3 points was the main thing! Much bigger test will be next week but no doubt if we start the game well and defend well we can beat cambridge, however we will need a new right side as Harriman and Shields are out! COYS!

Have to agree with all of that Norman7Saints. It was a very solid performance yesterday, albeit against a very poor side but at the moment I'll take 3 points any which way. Certainly a masterstroke making James Gray captain, a born leader who leads by example and easily MOM yesterday. Good to see us playing it on the ground as well, with some lovely passing moves especially from Micah Hyde and a good outing from Simon Martin. As has been said earlier, though, the real test will be against the likes of Cambridge City, Chesham and Leamington so let's not get too carried away on the back of one game. Looking at Cambridge City's form, they have had 2 draws and 6 losses from their last 8 games, which bodes well for next week. If we play anything like we played yesterday, particularly in the first half, we are well capable getting 3 points out of the game. As far as Harriman's one match suspension is concerned , we could do a lot worse than bringing in Joe Zazzera.
