THE FINAL WORD - written by Saint (Jake Ellacott)
How did the Saints get on against Chesham United?
The Saints fought out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Chesham United at Clarence Park on Boxing Day.
It was a tight game, and City edged the first half, as they created the first real chance of the game when Ryan Watts set up Paul Furlong, who had his shot from the edge of the box tipped past the post by the Chesham 'keeper.
However, Jupp, who was again in good form, was soon called upon to make a fantastic save, when a Chris Watters effort was palmed away by the City custodian.
With 5 minutes of the half left, the Saints went ahead when David Ijaha went on a powerful run into the Chesham area, and set up wide-man Danny Hart, who hit a low but powerful shot into the back of the net.
Just 9 minutes after half time, the visitors levelled things up. A scramble on the edge of the City box ended in Robert Bartley scoring a fabulous bicycle kick, which left Jupp with no chance.
The second half continued to be end to end and both sides had chances to score. Towards the end of the 90 minutes, the Saints had possibly the best chances, including a lob by Paul Furlong, which was only just tipped wide by a scrambling Chesham United goalkeeper.
What did David Howell have to say about it?
Howell said that the Paul Furlong chance at the end of the game could have won it for the Saints but that a draw was a decent result for the Saints in the end.
He praised the way that the team battled together in defence, midfield and up front. He feels that the team are operating in a system that they understand and that it is working well for them right now.
The manager was quite critical of his team at the same time, suggesting that there was a lot of room for improvement particularly in terms of keeping possession.
Howell suggest that the team might need 'fresh impetus' for the Weymouth match and that squad rotation might be put into action for the New Year's Eve game.
How are Weymouth getting on this season?
The Terras currently sit in 15th position in the table, with 26 points from 20 games.
In their last league outing, Weymouth drew 0-0 away at Frome Town.
Finally:
So will the Saints see out 2011 with a bang? Or will the Terras put a dampener on City's new year celebrations? Get involved in the pre- and post-match discussion in the thread below.

The City Archives - Lewes, 1986[/u]
We have a new feature to place alongside our previews this season, as one of Saints Chat's regular posters, Brummie, delves into the history books to provide us with match reports from the past. This gives a chance to walk down memory lane, or learn a little about City's past, before the next match in the present!
This time, Brummie has given us a typed report of a match that took place in 1986 against Lewes. Over to Brummie for the details!
Thanks, as always, go to Brummie for delving into the City Archives to provide us with an interesting read alongside our usual match previews!

This was my fear missing Gray big time and i doubt it will be the only time this season, Ngakam comes from a team with a very porous defence so don't know if he will be the answer

Half-time 2-0 to Weymouth.
My source at the match says that we have created little against a very average team and that we don't look up for this game.

A few thoughts from those at the match:
We were all over them for 25 mins in the second-half but didn't convert any of that into goals.
You cannot expect to give away two early goals as we did and get a result.
We really missed James Gray and the left side was also sadly lacking.
All in all, very disappointing.

Who was the Clarke in the line up yesterday ?

It's 33-year-old ex-Harrow Borough forward, Dewayne Clarke, who signed for the Saints just before Xmas, I believe.
