A last minute reprieve...However, I wonder of they can get £500,000 to continue as a club until the end of the season?. 5,600 at the gate on saturday ...pity that couldn`t get that many every week. At the Cup Final last May when they won in the last minute, there were 10,000 supporters.

As you most probably know...Darlington1883 (The new name) has been demoted 4 divisions. and will play in the Northern League..They will share Bishop Aucklands ground. The Stadium where they have played for the last few years is now empty. It is owned by two chaps who now have a 25,000 capacity arena with nothing happening....Ah! well !!!!! lets see what happens next?

Bishop Auckland average home gate for last season was 280. I do wonder how The Quakers will get on...I would like to think that 500+ at least would be the norm? A town the size of Darlington should have a team in a higher division... The same as the Saints..At least the Conference...

Now to follow on....The Northern League Table. P W D L F. A Points Darlington1883 46 40 2 4 145 35 122 Spennymoor 41 31 7 3 98 30 100 Whitley Bay 44 26 7 11 107 59 85 West Auckland 46 25 9 12 112 75 84 Darlington average gate was approx 1600 Considering that Darlington never had any players before the summer they didn`t do bad... Spennymoor did give them a good run for the pains however..They still have 5 games and 3 cup finals to play..Including the F.A.Vase v. Tunbridge Wells on Sunday. Darlington wil be in the Evo Stick League North 1st Div. Next season.Wonder what will happen there?

Last nights game Darlington 2 Stamford 1....But Guess who was in Goal For Stamford 45 year old Paul Bastock.. Darlington`s second goal was direct from a corner, Unusual???
He still seems to be enjoying the game however, Joking with the supporters... By the way, 1707 of them.

Well Darlington have done it, They have won the league. This is three promotions in 4 years..They won with a resounding 7-1 victory away a Whitby Town last night. In front of just over 1800. Only one more game to play on saturday and already they have 102 points...So next year they will be in the National league North.. On a par with the Saints.(Hopefully)They now have a ground share with Darlington Rugby Club at Blackwell Meadows, So back into town...Hope that increases in crowds next year?

Nothing like winning 7-1 away from home to win the league. Of course we did exactly the same back in 1986, winning 7-1 at Lewes. Still my favourite Saints game ever !!

More on Darlington...Now they have reached a possible play off spot.At present 4th. They now find, that owing to an oversight by the management, there are not enough seats under cover to let them into the Conference Senior league. Therefore they are not to be allowed into the play offs. You have to have 500 seats under cover..at present they only have 200.! ( By the way The Saints are supposed to have 607 seats under cover? ? are they sure about that???) Cheers, Stan
