Been following this thread with interest, as I'm also an avid reader of sports, particularly football, books. Here is a list of other books, not previously mentioned, which may be of some interest.
Trautmann's Journey - Catrine Clay. biography of Bert, from Hitler Youth to Man City goalie.
McCrae's Battalion - Jack Alexander. the story of the 16th Royal Scots, the 'Heart of Midlothian Battalion' in WW1.
Dynamo - Andy Dugan. the story of Dynamo Kiev, in WW2, when the City was occupied by the Nazis.
Once Upon a Time in Naples - John Luddow. Maradona's time at Napoli.
A Strange Kind of Glory - Eamon Dunphy. Biography of Sir Matt Busby.
The Day Italian Football Died - Manna & Gibbs. the story surrounding the worst aircrash in football history, 22 players from Torino died in 1949, having won Serie A for the previous 3 seasons.
Four Minutes to Hell - Paul Firth. The story of the Bradford City fire 1985.
Garrincha - Ruy Castio. biography of the great Brazillian.
Futebol - Alex Bellio. evolution of Brazillian football.
My Father and Other Working Class Football Heroes - Gary Imlach. Winner of the Sports Book of the Year 2005, the story of Stewart Imlach and his peers in football in the late 50s.
White Storm - Phil Ball. the story of Real Madrid.
I Lost My Heart to the Belles - Pete Davies. although a little dated now, the author spent a season with Doncaster Belles in 94/95, before womens football became professional.
Ajax, The Dutch, The War - Simon Kuper. Football in Europe in WW2.
Provided You Don't Kiss Me - 20 Years with Brian Clough - Duncan Hamilton. Memoirs of a local reporter in Nottingham during the Clough years.
Football's War and Peace - Thomas Taw. Football in England in 1946-47, the first season after WW2 ended.
Around the World in 95 Games - Rob Cavallini. the story of Islington Corinthians( a short lived Amateur team) World tour in 1937-38.
Mild & Bitter were the Days - Ken Barlow. diary of a 16 year old in 1970 following Wigan Athletic(then of the Northern Premier League). Will appeal to anybody who shares the same author - mid 50s - who will recognise a lot of his dilemmas.
Changing ends - Mike Bayly. A season in Non League Football 2009/10. 17 individual chapters on games from Step 1 to Step 6 - not your typical groundhopper fare, no stats, teamsheets etc.

Great list of books there Vince. Will definitely have to check out a few of those.
Out of your list, I have only read Futebol by Alex Bellio. There are quite a few that I have heard of but not read, such as Dynamo, Provided You Don't Kiss Me and Ajax, The Dutch, The War .
I'm quite interested in the book you mention about the Torino tragedy and will look out for that one. John Foot covers that in quite a bit of detail in his book Calcio. Around the World in 95 Games sounds like an interesting read as well.
Out of interest, what is Changing Ends like? Would you recommend it as a good read?

Definitely would recommend 'Changing Ends' - As I said before, not your usual groundhopper stuff, more an insight to the backgrounds of the clubs featured - the games themselves get very little coverage, they are just the catalyst for the visit.
I could not find the Torino Disaster book new - it must not be in print, but managed to find a very good second hand copy

www.paperbackswap.com/Wow-Factor-Concise-John-Blythe-Smart/book/0954501705/Here's a book I recommend. "The Wow Factor" By James Blythe Smart. Its actually a really in depth look at the very early years of the Football Association. The committee men and some of the earliest famous players. The Wanderers, Royal Engineers and Old Etonians etc. The best book on football and social history i've ever seen.
