Are you the chairman ?

I have a question that reflects my own ignorance. Poole have a decent lead in the Southern league. I understand they blew a similar position last year but they have favourites for promotion. Could there be issues with their 'ground' that prevents promotion? If so would the place simply go to team finishing second or might the 3rd bottom team in the National South receive a reprieve?

Ok so we are talking about Jon Brady the ex Brackley Town manager, I don't believe for one minute we were as close to appointing him as our next manager as what we are led to believe!!! I believe that perhaps discussions took place with Mr Brady, but somewhere along the line the goal posts were moved with a change of heart at our end, the Brady saga was then used as a red herring to give L.L some slack and Harry Wheeler some time to prove himself in the role, Has there ever been a better case of letting your heart rule your head, whilst of course saving a few quid in the process!! if this is not the case why did the club make a statement saying that Harry will remain in charge until the new year? You can only produce a statement like that if you are not continuing to pursue an alternative. Why? Because it comes down to what one man wants and not what is best for the football club!! if we pick up 4pts from the next 2 games nothing will change, if we pick up 0pts some poor chap will be appointed, what does that tell you???

I think Saint has already given the reason - the point is that it wasn't a change of heart by the club, I think the club were quite excited by the prospect of the appointment

Thank you for your reply AppySaint but you have hardly enlightened me or anyone else, and I also notice that you would rather deflect it onto Saint, well let me try to enlighten you. When a football manager is in talks with a club about becoming the new boss, the financial side I.e playing budget, wages, expenses, contact agreements etc would be discussed rather early in the interview as to not waste one another's time, basically he wants to know what the budget is and also what his deal will be, unless of course he's very well off or indeed desperate for the job. What you are saying is that Mr Brady sat down with the Owner and discussed all different manner of things to a point where they were about to announce it and BOOM!!! Mr Brady hit him with a bomb shell of "oh by the way" or "what is the playing budget" or possibly "I said 500 not 50" Now that's Hans Christian Andersen stuff!!!
Hey I reckon I could send my kids to sleep with that one "Once upon a time there was a manager less football club......."

Lets be honest everyone knows Harry was going to get the job who was connected with the club, Harry taught the chairmans son football team some years back and the chairman helped him get his footballing coach badges, and without doubt the chairman brought Harry into the club, from potters bar. Harry could be a decent coach but we need a manager at this time with some experience. Maybe I have got it wrong but how often did you see Harry on the sidelines working with the team on a Saturday match day. He was always watching other teams or so we was told. As much as I hope he keeps us up. Ive said it before the club really needs to bring some one in with more of a footballing background to help with some of the footballing decisions that the club make. We have 3 very nice people as far as I can tell running the club but all 3 have experience in different fields and not sure any of the skills are transferable to the football game. The team we have is more than good enough to win more games than lose maybe the new manger was told he would have to work with Harry and not bring in his own backroom staff.

Has fatboy ever attended a match? It was & is always Harry who organised & led the pre-match sessions - home & away. AFAIK Harry only missed away matches when his Daggers responsibilities prevented him. His watching of other teams was midweek only when no Saints match was taking place. You may be right in saying that Harry's coaching skills need supplementing with a second person to do all the other management tasks - especially as Harry has a full time Daggers role.

Well I think you have hit the nail firmly on the head Fatboy for the non announcement/appointment of a manager. I would like to add that it was not the Chairmans sons team that Harry was the coach of but im informed it was that of Lawrence Levy's the club owners sons team.
Getting back to this manager debacle, how did the club manage to make such a mess of this? How did this get to nearly Announcement? Why if this was a stipulation the club wanted in place was it not addressed at interview stage? Are we sure we have the right person in place to conduct these interviews? Football recruitment is a completely different inviroment to business recruitment!! This is why football boards conduct these types of interviews so things like this do not get over looked, where was our Football club Chairman? Was he involved?
Understandibly Harry's first priority is to Dagenham & Redbridge as its his full time job, and as Fatboy quite rightly added that Harry has missed half a dozen games this season for Saints due to this commitment. Our owners first priority should always be towards SACFC and for its best interest, especially the predicament we are in. Now what is important here is when did Mr Levy know that the new man wanted his own staff/coaches, if as I believe, that he knew all along and this was played as his get out of jail free card, deciding after the Oxhey and Margate victories, that he wanted Harry to stay and be given a shot at it, then he has made the decision to not employ an experienced manager, if as some of you believe it was sprung on him at the 11th hour, then it comes down to being a very un-professionaly run affair to which he could of still decided to employ Mr Brady and co. Only time will tell but our destiny in this league will ride on that decision

you are correct of course Saint and I of course I did mean L.Levy brought Harry to the club. Albansaint yes I did attend just the odd game over the last few years and I stand by the statement that Harry was not at many games over the past seasons due to the fact that he was away watching teams that the saints where going to play or working . An important job no doubt. The bench was mostly the two managers and mark boyce. Harry did take the training and was/ or I heard was to be very good at this. but being a very good young coach is not the same as being a very good young manager. The players from what i understand are quite happy with Harry doing this job as he seems to be more about football skills at training and less on the legwork and strength.

There are/were quite a few experienced managers available, Rowland being one, he was Devonshire's assistant at Braintree. Wayne Burnett recently left Dagenham and must know Harry etc. maybe he could be a stop gap ? I think Glen Alzapiedi is available too, and I mentioned Hippolyte and Brady before. We cannot afford to be relegated, because the Southern Premier has got several well resourced sides in it. Weymouth, Kettering, Leamington, Kings Lynn, Dorchester, probably Rushden and D next season and maybe Basingstoke too, Chesham can't be so bad next season either, it will be a very tough league to get out of.

Sorry, bob666, I meant to get back to you earlier on this. If Poole Town are playing in the Southern League Premier, which they have been doing since commencement of the 2013/14 season, they will have a 'C' grading. When they were promoted from the Southern League Div 1 South and West at the end of the 2012/13 season, I understand that their ground only had a 'D' grading, however they had until 31 March 2014 to carry out the required improvements to achieve the 'C' grading or they would face relegation back from the Southern League Premier, whichever position they finished in. Clearly, they did achieve the 'C' grading. With regard to the current season, they will face a similar challenge and if they are promoted to the Vanarama National League South, they will have to achieve a 'B' grading by 31 March 2016 or relegation would again beckon. I'm pretty sure that is the general gist so I don't think we can look for an extra get out possibility regarding Poole's ground situation, unfortunately. Personally, I am not au fait exactly with the precise requirements needed for the various ground grading levels but I do find it very odd how, for example, the likes of both Concord Rangers and Whitehawk can achieve a 'B' ground grading and Histon, in their 3 seasons in the Nationwide Conference, an 'A' grading, when not one of the three look fit for even a 'D' grading. Poole's ground is also not a lot better, unless it has altered drastically since we played them in our first game of the 2013/14 season. Frankly, the whole ground grading shebang seems to defy logic but what do I know? Hope this helps.
