Time for our annual playing squad thread, where we can discuss general squad news.
Who is top of your list to retain? Who do you want us to sign? Ian said he'll be sitting down with the owners in the next 7 to 10 days to discuss budgets etc, as well as sitting down with players to see what they want to do.
He should sit down with Snedker and Wyatt first, in my opinion.

We should be looking at this guy. He is the best non league right back/right wing back, I have seen all season and every bit as good or better than Kane Smith. We have to be realistic, Ben Herd is not going to be with us forever. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tosin_Olufemi

I agree, Dean Snedker and Ben Wyatt. I'd also say Richard Sho-Silva and Zane Banton, as long as they are fit enough to start, Sam Merson and Lewis Knight. I'd start by getting all of them on board

Merson is contracted for another season which is remaining on the two and half year contract he signed.

Would it be fair to say that Kalocszi and Shulton made a significant contribution? Seem the type you could really build around

Some interesting names on the list. For me, Marriott is far too lightweight and also too susceptible to injury. Hippolyte-Patrick and Nouble may be ok at Step 3 but would struggle at Step 2, as they did the first time around.

We have the potential to be a far better team with Shulton in it. He's the only player that can get close to playing Noble's role, and it's a crucial role that we're severely lacking. He was caught cold a few times against Torquay but he laid on a couple of assists in the few games for us, and once he's integrated properly could really play a key role next year.

He was also still some way off match fitness against Torquay so I'd prefer not to assess him on that match but rather those games prior to injury - where he demonstrated his worth.

I agree he has been the closest player to Noble’s role but if Noble stays then I don’t believe shulton will be playing and a creative winger would be more important than a Noble backup. But if Noble doesn’t stay on then I think we should give Shulton an opportunity to replace him.

But if he does he won’t be able to play two games in a week, doubt he’d make 90 mins too often and is moving closer to the coaching side. If the budget allows us to keep both that would be great. Sambou, Kamdjo, Noble & Shulton would be some crop to pick your central midfielders from next season. That’s probably wishful thinking though and agree re a creative winger!

Spoke to a player in the week and it sounds like Sam Merson, Zane Banton and Tom Bender (the names he mentioned) will all be at Clarence Park next season

Well, that'll be good news if that's true, 3 Players that'd be part of my squad anyway.

Hopefully there'll be a little extra investment to enable a promotion push next year, allowing IA to keep Herd (not sure why he or Merson are a release suggestion), Shulton and Noble. Certainly agree that we need a Noble back up. Big ugly striker would be good too. They seem to do best at this level. Merson would be really good if the refs gave him some protection.

Yeah l agree, a big ugly "nuisance" type striker up top would be good and the midfield needs looking at.

We wont be keeping Ben Herd next season. It's been know for a while he would be venturing into management next season. Which was confirmed by himself today as he has taken the Hertford Town FC managerial role.

One of the main problems last season was the lack of a leader out on the pitch. Kamdjo is the guy for me. He organises what is happening around him and would fit the position like a glove, just as long as he is able to keep fit.
Definites on my retained list would be Wyatt, Kamdjo, Snedker, Bender, Sambou, Kaloczi and Shulton. It would also be nice to think we are looking at bringing in a couple of decent strikers. We were sadly lacking up front last season, surely proven by the fact that Gabriel was still our top goalscorer up until the end of March after leaving us in the first week of December.

Agree with all of that Boomer. Sorry to hear that Herd is leaving but pleased he's moving into management. I wonder how many reds he'll get!

Good to hear that they’re staying but a shame Knighty has gone I thought he was a good player for us. Think Kaloczi and Zane will be great for us next year

Shame to lose Knight. I thought he improved loads with us through the season. He would've been the first one I'd have tried to retain, followed by Kaloczi, Snedker, and Kamdjo.

It's one good Centre Back gone sadly, and l know we've re-signed James Kaloczi who can play there, but as long as we have got, amongst other team strengths, a good strong back line who fully understand each other for the start of next season with new additions or otherwise, that'll be the main thing. Good luck to Lewis, l wish him well for Maidstone ...... except of course against us!
