I have to agree with Danny Hunter’s conclusions. I can’t see how there can be any National League football next season. Social distancing is unlikely to be lifted completely for anything up to a year and playing behind close doors isn’t an option at our level.

I have to agree with Danny Hunter’s conclusions. I can’t see how there can be any National League football next season. Social distancing is unlikely to be lifted completely for anything up to a year and playing behind close doors isn’t an option at our level. It could be well over a year before mass gatherings are allowed without restrictions. Agree with everything that been said but if we could play with a limited crowd and social distancing in place I think we should as the alternative may be waiting several years. Behind closed doors actually means a few hundred for a major televised game. So maybe some friendlies with restricted crowds may be possible next year- just playing local amateur players. I think St Albans has a theoretical capacity is 5000, surely it be possible to get a few hundred in and allow for distancing? My concern is if clubs stop playing for several years they will just die. Given that there will probably be loads of football on TV over the next few years football will just become a sport that vast majority associate with watching on TV. People will get out of the habit of going. One thing I cannot see how England emerges from this with five full-time professional leagues (the national league is essentially fulltime )
