Dreadful! Looks like it has been designed by the person doing the graphics on social media using Paint on Windows XP.

Levy speaking in the video: 'The decision to implement a crest was a collective one, and one that wasn't taken lightly. We included some young saints, and some fans, who were also involved in the design process.'
Fans or spineless yes men, Lawrence?

That is absolutely shocking.
“We included some of our young saints and as well as fans who were also involved throughout the whole design process"
I wonder which "fans" were consulted on this? I know I wasn't, but I guess supporting the club for close to 40 years counts for nothing these days!

Maybe they spoke to season ticket holders?
From the Man City website:

I don't mind it, but to me it feels a bit like a Man City discount store option. I would keep the shield and put the date and club name inside (done a very quick mock up in word ) , that way it is still simple to make but more unique. Interesting what was written on the website: Lawrence Levy, Chairman of St Albans City FC, explained: “The decision to implement a new crest was collective and one we didn’t take lightly. We included some of our young saints and as well as fans who were also involved throughout the whole design process." Attachments:City Badge.docx (85.26 KB)

I said the other day I wouldn’t mind seeing what a new one would look like. Now that I have seen the ‘new’ one, I think changing the badge from the original unique one to this copy and paste one is a terrible decision.

The rectangle in the middle looks like an iPhone.
From a typographical point of view, the retro style ‘London Underground” typeface is fashionable at the moment. See Man City, Brentford and others. It will probably date quite dramatically when the current trend changes.
But the badge does look like a lot of other recent redesigns. Man City and Brentford but also Stevenage and others.
Thing is, kit and badge designs are so subjective there’ll be people who love it and people who don’t. The question is more why change it. What are the goals and objectives? If it’s simply to give a fresh new look probably best to leave it alone because today’s fresh new look is tomorrow’s dated look just without the tradition associated with longevity.

The usual suspects 'liking' the post on twitter, not to mention Oomph Creative, involved in the design Ben Killner, creative director of Oomph Creative Kay Killner, Ben Killner's mum and La Cabine Crete Cote, a 3 bed ski chalet owned by the Killner family

I wonder how much the rebranding is going to cost in terms of signage around the ground, any league fees, any equipment from last season to get rid of. Money that could probably be better spent elsewhere especially if the current global pandemic has been as hard hitting as the yes men would believe...

Gosh, I knew there was a trend for the circular badge with the retro sans serif “London underground style” typeface but that Tweet shows just how popular a trend it is.

I really don’t want to be constantly criticising, but .... I don’t like it much, but more to the point what was wrong with the old badge?

Not a fan of this one bit. I appreciate if others like it but it would have been nice to have a vote of this kind of thing. You know, to make people feel involved with the club and make it inclusive.
I used to like and respect LL but after watching him look firmly at the floor when he said it was a collective decision...

During a time when most or some saints fans ( I dunno?) feel unhappy about the running of the club,I can’t understand why the club left the supporters out of making a choice on the decision process for this. We’ve been cut off from the club during these terrible COVID times and it would have been a good chance to involve and re engage with supporters again. I’ve supported the mighty saints for a long time, home and away and I’m gutted with this decision!!!! I loved our old badge and was considering a tattoo of it. The club is losing loyal supporters by the minute!!!! That’s one step I won’t take but I’m not happy

Personally l don't see the need for a change of Club badge. The old one had heritage and history about it, this one for me has nothing. We've lost the heritage and history in the badge, but l suppose at the end of the day it doesn't matter what the badge looks like, what matters is how the players wearing the badge on the field of play, perform. That's what matters

The badge is a representation of who we are as a club, how we are seen around the league, around non-league, nationally etc. It gives us a proper identity, and like you said lagerman it reflects our heritage and history.
The new badge, in my opinion, is the wrong side of generic - it's generic and plain and standard and similar to so many other new badges out there but the things that have been added to try and make it individual just don't work. And no amount of marketing spiel about community and reflections and symbolism and Roman army fighting techniques is going to change that for me.

All of the praise on Twitter for it coming from no-one I recognise with the exception of Enter Shikari. A mate of mine also thought it looks like an iPhone. Didn't realise it was supposed to be the cathedral on it. Looks more like the Queen Vic from Eastenders.

I like it. Looks smart. Anyone know how long the old badge was used for? The arms (shield only) were recorded in 1634 and certified (but not granted) in 1951, the complete arms as shown above were granted in 1974. The golden saltire is the attributed arms of the Kingdom of Mercia. King Offa of Mercia founded St. Albans abbey on the site of his martyrdom. Tradition has it that from that date the Mercian arms were granted to the town. In 1974 the supporters and crest were added. The crest has the figure of a baron holding the Magna Carta, which has associations with St. Albans. The dexter supporter is a mitred abbot. The abbots once governed the town. The sinister supporter is a printer, as the town was an early centre of the industry. www.heraldry-wiki.com/heraldrywiki/index.php/Saint_Albans#:~:text=The%20crest%20has%20the%20figure,early%20centre%20of%20the%20industry

I hadn't realised how big a fan of the old badge I was until I saw the new one. It's extremely generic and is by far the worst of all the similar badges listed above.
Even if the badge did look nice, fans still should have been consulted. Watford did a fan vote with plenty of options and, shocker, they voted to stick with their current crest.
I really hope they reverse the crest and the prices, but I know they won't.

Now I realise it's a Roman shield it's quite a decent idea but it's not been terribly well realised because it does, unfortunately, look like a first generation iPhone screen.
The cathedral is also a nice idea but it's not immediately obvious what it is and the reflection effect doesn't really work.
But my biggest grumble is that the text is badly set. St Albans City Football Club is too long to go all the way round. The eye is drawn to the top middle where it reads CITY FOOT.
Would have been better with ST ALBANS CITY round the top of the circle and FOOTBALL CLUB at the bottom; perhaps with the 19 and 08 on opposite sides of the circle at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions.
The fact it looks like so many round, recently-designed badges does make it feel rather generic.
