I do hope we don't lose Michael Weiss now, we've lost one or two key players even though we've managed to keep the majority of last seasons squad. Weiss was good l thought.

Oxford were looking like the best team last season, more money for Joe and joining an ambitious team.

Weiss and Mukena have both re-joined.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/mukena-and-weiss-commit-to-saints/Ian Allinson has strengthened his squad further for the quickly approaching 2021/22 campaign by agreeing new deals with defender Joy Mukena and forward Mitchell Weiss. The duo arrived last summer and quickly established themselves as central parts of a Saints side that lost just one league game all campaign. Joy impressed supporters with his confident performances at the heart of a strong City defence, while Mitchell, who found the back of the net on 6 occasions, caused problems for back-lines across the division with his speed and guile. We hope that supporters will join us in congratulating both on their new deals!

That’s good news. I think all we need to start the season is one more striker as well as a back-up keeper. If we can get them in I think we’ll be in with a good chance. Let’s just hope we can get a completed season with as many of us as possible watching!

Probably more important that we address the midfield with a replacement for Nwabuokei. Harry Forster?

Probably more important that we address the midfield with a replacement for Nwabuokei. Harry Forster? Fair enough. I know we’ve signed Sole and Brown but they may not directly replace Nwabuokei. I expect there will be a few more signings in the next few weeks to increase the numbers in the squad.

Am I the only one worrying about the lack of numbers in the squad? With Luke Brown returning to Hitchin (admittedly on dual registration) and still no sign of Clark and Diedhiou, I reckon we’ve only got about 14 senior players. I know the Academy graduates are looking useful, but I’m not sure they’re ready for National League South yet. I understand we’re entering a Reserve/Development side in the Herts County League Premier Division this season which I assume is where they’ll be playing.
If Clark and Diedhiou are still with us then I reckon the defence will be fairly sound, but without more players and more flair up front I’m worried we won’t be able to build on last year’s progress. Or am I just being a little pessimistic?

Clark and Diedhiou were at the ground last night. I believe they are both on the road back from injury. Banton also played 30 mins last night. One of my concerns is the central midfield and who will partner Wiltshire with Nwabuokei now gone. By my reckoning, we look to have 14 senior players plus Dawson and Lankshear and the back up gk, Gauthier. David Noble was also only on the field for 23 minutes last night so I think we have to assume that he probably picked up a knock, as well.
With Luke Brown now back at Hitchin, maybe we should be looking instead at Callum Stead, who really impressed when he played against us for Hitchin in the F.A. Cup game last season.

Thanks for that Boomer, it’s good to hear that Clark and Diedhiou are still with us. I only hope they’ll be fit for the start of the season. I agree about the midfield and feel we need another striker too.

Good news, both looked capable in the friendlies. I’ve been worried about the lack of depth in the squad and this has gone some way to help. I still think we need another striker though.
All in all I’m quite optimistic for this season. I reckon the play-offs are an achievable target.

It's only one game and the first one of the season at that, but l fully expect Dartford to be strong

I have doubled up the Saints with York city. (E/W) to both finish in the top 3. Hoping for a return.

A great shame. He always put in a good shift and I wish him well. I agree, saint68. A local player, St. Albans born and bred, who always gives his all. I remember first seeing him in the St. Albans City U18 youth team about 10 years ago. He could prove very hard to replace.

So why exactly did he leave us ? Surely not to specifically go to our arch rivals ?

Theres only 1person that knows the answer to that and he obviously thought he had more chance of winning the league with them

Or maybe he decided IA’s preferred partnership at the back was more likely to be Adebiyi and Mukenda and didn’t fancy spending most of the season warming one of the seats in the nice new dugouts. Either way I wish him well - if only he hadn’t gone back to Hemel!

He's at an age where he won't want to be a benchwarmer so if he knows he's probably going to be struggling for game time it's for the best for his sake to move on. Can't really blame him for staying local even if it is Hemel he's a local lad who will have friends and family here and a job as well so won't want to be commuting tons of miles every week. If he was a full time player it's slightly different circumstances then.

I would look at it from the point of view that it's a Central defender option that we've lost, and a good one at that, and with us now having a B team to field as well as the 1st team these days, as long as we have cover, well then that's fine, but if not, then I'd expect us to be looking for a replacement for him. Obviously James wasn't happy at warming the bench, so yes, you do have to respect his decision to move on.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/brown-out-the-blue/Ian Allinson has strengthened his midfield options with the signing of Bayley Brown and will wear the number 5 shirt for the Saints this season. Bayley is a 6ft 5in tall midfielder who began his career with Tottenham Hotspur before having spells at Maidenhead United, Staines Town, Harrow Borough, Beaconsfield Town, Chesham United, and Hendon. Bayley is also the son of former Hendon player and England non-league international Dereck Brown. We are sure that you will all join us in welcoming Bayley to Clarence Park!
