It makes you wonder if any of last seasons squad that the Club want to retain for next season have gone away after meeting Allison and/or Levy, thinking "hmmmm l want a better deal, more money, after our great FA Cup run last season and good crowds, the Club should be able to pay me what l want" or even thinking that BEFORE meeting Allinson and/or Levy ? And of course you can't blame them for wanting the best for themselves and their families. So, perhaps they've all gone away having found out that they aren't really getting particularly improved deals after all, and are thinking about moving elsewhere if something comes up elsewhere ? Of course it's all ifs and buts and none of us will really know, but it does make you wonder, doesn't it ? But all the above is arguably obvious anyway

Good to sign someone who has played at NLS level.

Well, I've read the posts on this thread, like l do all of them, and really, who knows what the situation is between the owners and Allison. He's obviously working within the budget he's been given by the owners, but most players and their agents will go where they can get the most money, the best deals, so we've got all that to compete with. We might well end up with the likes of Joe Neal, marquee signings may never be us. That said, you would have thought if Allinson isn't happy with things, he would step down, but that said too, if he is just happy chugging along in the comfort zone in his job of being a NLS team manager, still a high non-league division thou, and isn't really thinking about the possibility of getting promoted cos of the issues it will bring, then this is good as it gets and will always be as good as it gets. Personally, l feel that Levy and McGowan, despite being our owners for a few years now, are still inexperienced football club owners, and are probably still learning their way, so they have limited experience of hiring and firing football club managers, so l just can't see them firing Allinson, at least not just yet, and are they scared, deep down, of what promotion to the NL might bring ? They are more concerned with getting a new ground for us any way. I just think we have to embrace whatever happens, whatever we've got My problem is that if we don't make progress on recruitment soon we might exit the division not through promotion but in the other direction I think for our friendly matches this season, the way player recruitment isn't going, we'll see Triallist player lettering going up to Triallist Z, lol

Althou player recruitment for next season is looking, how shall we put it? somewhat thin on the ground so far, have we have got any players on contracts from last season that will take them into next season, covering them for that? The only player in the last few years that l can think of, that was in a position like that was Sam Merson. Anyone like that from last season does anyone know ?

Think we've got six players signed up with 3 NLS goals between them last season, so definitely need to add some goals!

If you go back 12 months, we were just coming out of the pandemic after 2 years where both seasons were cut short. Due to the uncertainty of the situation at the time, players were quick to sign up for another season as they probably wanted certainty.
Roll forward 12 months, covid restrictions have been lifted and life is back to near normal but we are now in a cost of living crisis. Players priority now will probably be money to pay their bills and put food on the table. Travel costs to training and matches will be impacted by the rising cost of petrol/diesel. Players understandably will be looking for the best financial deal for their personal circumstances and are likely to be delaying committing to clubs. This is possibly one reason why the squad is looking a bit threadbare at the moment.

I sure that is all true but other clubs seem to be further along and our first friendly is now less than a month away. I have thought we start training in a couple of week, at the most? I wonder if the problem might be that with Austin/Allison we have recruitment by committee whereas other clubs have one man who can make decisions.

Does anyone know what the situation is with Devante Stanley ? Of course I'd imagine that the Club will need to know that he can fully recover before re-signing him if they want him ?

www.stalbanscityfc.com/chez-isaac-arrives-at-clarence-park/St Albans City would like to welcome the third new addition to Ian Allinson’s squad in the form of midfielder Chez Isaac from fellow Vanarama National League South side, Chelmsford City. Chez comes to Clarence Park as a versatile midfielder after notching up over 100 games at the Clarets over a four-year spell after joining in October 2018. The experienced midfielder started his career at Watford with the Under 18s and Under 23s where during this time at Watford he was given the Under 18s captain’s armband before gaining loan experience in the Conference Premier with Tamworth. Chez was later signed by Ian at Boreham Wood, initially on loan, before his release from Watford and joining the Wood permanently. Chez was a frequent member of Ian’s midfield and impressed at Meadow Park. At 20 years of age, he secured a move to Blue Square Conference Premier side, Braintree Town, in 2013. Chez was integral for Braintree Town in the National League making 164 appearances for the Iron, where he helped them secure a 6th place finish in the 2013-2014 season, a 14th place finish in the 2014-2015 season, and an impressive 3rd place finish, and Play-Off Semi-Final place for the part-timers in 2015-2016. Unfortunately, in 2016-2017, Braintree couldn’t beat the drop and were relegated to the National League South. However, Chez kept his place in the National League by joining Surrey-based side Woking for the 2017/2018 season where he made a further 38 appearances in the National League before leaving the Cardinals. Chez returned to the National League South with a brief spell at Dartford before moving to Essex with Chelmsford City. Additionally, whilst at Braintree Town in March 2016, Chez was called up to Paul Fairclough’s England C squad for games in Kyiv, Ukraine. Chez joins Clarence Park with a wealth of non-league experience and a combined total of more than 300 competitive appearances with the majority in the National League.

Now that sounds like the kind of player we need - someone with loads of experience who can run the midfield for us.
Good news, but can we have some strikers next?

Now that sounds like the kind of player we need - someone with loads of experience who can run the midfield for us. Good news, but can we have some strikers next? On the other hand a Chelmsford fan says: "Heading out the door is Chez Issac, who signs for St Albans. I'm personally pleased as his time with us has been synonymous with the decline in quality of our midfield over the last few years. Some of our fans seem to think he was hardworking, I did not. Perhaps its just because he was a bit slow, error prone and played at a snails pace tempo. On his day, on good pitches, he can be very decent as he's not bad on the ball. But, those days were all too infrequent." Meanwhile a Hemel fan says: "Chris Paul probably spent as much time injured as he did on the pitch for Hemel. Maybe just bad luck, but I always got the feeling that when push come to shove, he wasn't prepared to grit his teeth and get on with it. He is a decent player on his day, but his day comes around very infrequently. A decent lad, but from a footballing perspective I'm not entirely bothered by his departure." But then again, what do they know?

Thanks for bursting my bubble! ☹️ Of course, we only have the one opinion from Chelmsford so far … I think of the three new signings so far Isaac is the most likely to be a regular starter, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. By the time the friendlies are done we should have more of an idea. In the meantime, more strikers please!

www.stalbanscityfc.com/johnny-goddard-departs/We can today confirm that Johnny Goddard has opted to move on from St Albans City Football Club. Although offered new terms for the upcoming season, after much deliberation the creative midfielder has decided to cut down on his travel and seek football closer to home in order to concentrate on his academy commitments. Johnny is managing director of ‘The Core Football Academy’, providing young players in the Berkshire area the chance to develop under UEFA & FA qualified coaches, with a wealth of experience before offering a pathway to professional clubs. We’d like to thank Johnny for his time with us over the past season, and wish him all the best in the future. For more info on The Core Football Academy visit: www.corefootballcoaching.co.uk/academy

Really bad news. He was probably the best player in the first half of the season, certainly the most creative.
Thanks Johnny and good luck for the future - you’ll have no trouble finding another club.

The Clarence Park "experience" is more important than the results on the pitch... Just get drunk and don't worry about losing to pub teams.

Anyone else noticed that with any of these new/re-signings there has been no quotes from Ian Allinson.

Sorry to see Dawson go and best of luck to him in his future endeavours. Assuming we take the club statement at face value surely his departure could have been anticipated. He must have raised this caused by the long commute give his other work commitment and we should have a replacement penciled in by now. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me but surely it cannot be normal to have so few players committed to next season with only 2 weeks to go to the start of preseason training? Are we going to be in position in a couple of weeks where we signing players just to get bodies in? I admit I only dipped into other clubs twitter accounts but we seem well behind. I always though Allison was noted for liking to get his business done early. Maybe this one of the reasons we often achieved strong starts under Allison?
