All these good resigning only finished 9th last season so they can't be that good Its as good as it gets for us if we're not getting any "marque signings" in and it's basically last seasons squad. Something like 9th in the league next season might be as good as it gets for us as well, and what if we lose Jeffers ?

www.stalbanscityfc.com/shaun-jeffers-signs-two-year-deal/We are delighted to announce that prolific striker Shaun Jeffers has put pen to paper on a deal extending his stay at Clarence Park for a further two seasons. Shaun has become the talisman of the Saints’ strike force over the last two seasons since joining from Chelmsford City in 2020. Integral to the side, contributing 45 goals in 70 appearances across all competitions during that spell. Last campaign, Shaun scored an impressive 34 goals in 50 games, with 27 of those coming in the Vanarama National League South, supplying 49% of City’s goals in the competition. This impressive tally saw him finish runner-up to Dorking’s Alfie Rutherford for the golden boot. Before heading to Hertfordshire, Shaun had already clocked a number of Football League and National League appearances for clubs including Coventry City, Cheltenham Town, Newport County, Yeovil Town, Borehamwood, and Chelmsford City. He also gained Youth international experience in the 2010/2011 season, picking up two caps with England Under 19s. The forward has given the Saints’ fans plenty of memorable moments, including an extraordinary strike away to Dartford in 2020/2021 as well as scoring the winner in front of a packed Clarence Park in our FA Cup victory vs Forest Green Rovers last season. A firm favorite on the terraces, Jeffers has become renowned for consistently finding space in the box and slotting away first-time shots with power. Manager Ian Allinson is delighted to have his number 9 back on board: IT’S FANTASTIC TO HAVE ONE OF THE MOST CLINICAL GOALSCORERS AT OUR LEVEL BACK IN THE GROUP FOR A FURTHER TWO YEARS. SHAUN HAS BEEN SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR SQUAD SINCE JOINING. IT’S A MASSIVE LIFT FOR EVERYONE AT THE CLUB AND I HOPE FOR THE FANS TOO. I’M PLEASED SHAUN FEELS HE’S FOUND A HOME WITH US, AND THAT THIS IS WHERE HE WANTS TO PLAY HIS FOOTBALL.

Very good news.
However, we still need another striker, we can’t rely on him to be the only regular scorer again. I believe we also need a big ugly central defender with plenty of experience at this level as well as a creative midfielder to replace Goddard.

I believe we also need a big ugly central defender with plenty of experience at this level as well as a creative midfielder to replace Goddard. I can only echo this. Excellent news RE Jeffers, but we need someone else who can back him up with some firepower. We also desperately need a commanding centre-half who can lead the back-line and a creative midfielder. Maybe even a natural winger with a bit of pace?

Yep, l echo everyone else's thoughts, this is a great re-signing, but we need to strengthen the attack a bit more, it'll b no good playing Jeffers alone up top. So, as well as this re-signing, we really need to strengthen up front as well as the midfield and Central Defence too.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/devante-returns-for-2022-2023/We are pleased to announce that Devante Stanley has battled his way back from his season-ending injury and re-signed for the 2022/2023 season. Devante endured a difficult year last year after suffering a double leg break on the Saint’s second away trip of the campaign at Tonbridge Angels. The injury saw the National League South game abandoned to deal with the medical emergency. His long road to recovery has not been without complication, but D’s hard work and resilience see the defender close to full fitness ahead of pre-season, resulting in his new contract and in the near future a return to the City team. If Devante can find his pre-injury form, he’ll be an exciting addition to Ian Allinson’s squad, tormenting teams at right wing-back with his pace to transition forward and product in the final third. Manager Ian Allinson is very pleased to have Devante back, and impressed with the work put in to get there: “Devante has, and still is, working extremely hard to battle back from what was a very serious injury. It’s fantastic to have him back, he is very popular amongst the squad and staff. His return goes a long way in strengthening us for the upcoming season” Everyone at Clarence Park will be excited about Stanley’s return, he has solidified himself as a fan favourite since joining from Biggleswade Town at the start of the 20/21 season. Before Biggleswade Town, Devante was a teammate of Zane Banton within the Luton Town Academy before moving on to non-league spells at Bedford Town, St Neots Town, and Royston.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/return-of-munashe/We are pleased today to welcome back central-midfielder Munashe Sundire who returns to the Saints from National League North side, King’s Lynn Town. Munashe heads back to City, where he previously made 36 appearances in the 2019/2020 season after switching from Herts rivals, Hemel Hempstead Town. Munashe, known for his energetic performances in central midfield, started his senior career at Kempston Rovers. He earned a move to Kettering Town via Banbury United, before also having brief stints at Chesham United and St Ives Town. In Cambridgeshire, Munashe cemented himself as a key player during 2019, and after attracting the attention of the Tudors, headed to Vauxhall Road for his first taste of Step 2 football. Making the short trip (upgrade) to St Albans just a few months later, Munashe was an integral part of Ian Allinson’s midfield during the curtailed 2020/2021 season, helping the Saints on to an impressive 11-game unbeaten streak before the season was cut short. Popular amongst the fans and dressing room, ‘Nash’ will be welcomed back with open arms, and joins an ever stronger City midfield for the 2022/2023 season.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/big-dave-to-hendon/We can announce that David Diedhiou will return to his previous club Hendon for the 2022/2023 season, where he will take up a player/coach role to guarantee first-team football and initiate his coaching career. Fan-favourite ‘Big Dave’ has been an important member of Ian Allinson’s teams since joining in June 2018. A true City centurion, Dave has played over 100 times at the heart of the City defence and midfield, contributing most notably in last season’s the Emirates FA Cup run. David came up with the crucial last-minute goal vs Corinthian-Casuals to force a replay and eventual progression through to play Forest Green Rovers. One of the greatest nights in the club’s history, and Dave was at the heart of the performance again. His last-ditch sprint and slide tackle to deny a promising Rovers attack in the dying embers of the game as City clung on for victory is a moment many Saints’ fans look back fondly on. Despite shifting his focus to Hendon, Dave may still yet be seen on the Clarence Park turf again during the upcoming season, remaining dual-registered with the Saints to be called on if required. We thank David for all his hard work at St Albans City FC and wish him all the best in his new. He is a true leader and fantastic individual who we look forward to seeing progress into coaching.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/romeos-not-done/We can confirm that we have retained the services of tricky winger Romeo Akinola for the 2022/2023 season. Romeo first joined the Saints at the start of the curtailed 2020/2021 campaign from Haringey Borough following five years in the QPR development squads. Thriving under the watchful eye of former City striker Paul Furlong, Akinola then headed off to the continent with IFK Ostersund in the Swedish fourth division as part of the ‘League Football Education programme’ for 2018. Since arriving at Clarence Park, Romeo has gone on to make 38 appearances for the Saint, playing either side of midfield and in a central attacking position. Injury disrupted his 2021/2022 campaign, where a patella knee issue has seen him sidelined since February of this year. Although not fit for the start of the season, Romeo is very much in Ian Allinson’s plan for the upcoming campaign.

So, so far, has anybody been totting it all up, a list of a squad so far, now that there have been a few signings and re-signings and a couple of departures. It might perhaps be a little bit early, given that hopefully there'll be one or two more new signings or re-signings from last seasons squad, still to come. I know somebody on the forum has put together a list of "where we are now" of players, before a season has started, but probably a little bit later than this stage

www.stalbanscityfc.com/mukena-is-a-city-man/We are pleased to confirm that Joy Mukena will stay a Saint for the 2022/2023 Vanarama National League South campaign. Joy is a center-back that is comfortable with the ball at his feet. He has made 56 appearances in all competitions since joining from Bracknell Town in 2020, having previously competed amongst Watford and Tottenham Hotspur’s development squads. Joy returns in the hope of cementing himself as defensive partner to Callum Adebiyi as the pair look to shut out the best strikers in our division.
