www.stalbanscityfc.com/bender-bows-out/We can today confirm that long-serving defender and vice-captain Tom Bender has departed the club. Tom joined the Saints initially on loan from Forest Green Rovers before making his move permanent at the end of December 2015. Tom has been integral to many Saints squads in previous seasons, making 250 appearances in all competitions. A true fan favourite over this time, his performances have been recognised by way of winning multiple club awards; the Supporters’ Player of the Season 2016/2017, Players’ Player of the Season 2016/2017 and the Young Saints’ Player of the Season 2017/2018. Gaffer Ian Allinson has trusted Tom as his vice-captain for seven seasons, stating: “It’s a sad loss losing Tom, who has been a loyal member of my playing staff over the last six and a half years. I’d like to thank him for his time with the football club and wish him well in the future” We would all like to thank Tom for his loyal service to the club and wish him all the best in his next endeavour.

That's a bit of a loss there, squad-wise, Tom was certainly an integral part of our squad

Leaving it tight in finding a new Club in time for the new season, or his agent has

Sad to see Tom go after so may games/seasons but he was in danger of tainting his legacy with some of his performances in the past couple of seasons
Left in time to ensure a legend status

Sam Meakes has joined Hitchin Town and it seems to be a permanent transfer. I think this is a shame. We’re short of goal-scoring options and although he’s inexperienced he has potential.

I saw him on loan at Dunstable towards the end of last season in a game, when we were playing an away game, and he played well

A shame to see him go as its another lost option in the squad should we need to play him, but l guess he needs game time to develop more

Apparently 'trialist A' who scored 2 v Enfield and was sent off v Hendon isn't signing, which is a shame as he sounded just like what we wanted
Only fit winger now is Liam Sole, I hope we don't plan to play with wingers

Now that we know the squad what are exceptions? I think we short in central defence- I understand why he left and good luck to him but given the lack of replacement I actually wish we retained Bender - I think we lack creativity in midfield and we look desperately short of goals. We cannot expect Jeffers to get the same return as last season and you would put money on any of our other forwards getting into double figures. Bottom half for me.

www.stalbanscityfc.com/townsend-west-and-marcimain-sign-as-noble-switches-focus-to-coaching/We are pleased to announce that highly-rated defender Mackye Townsend-West has joined the Saints on a season-long loan from Stevenage. Known for his pace and technical ability, Mackye signed his first professional contract in 2020, making his debut for the League Two outfit in an EFL Trophy against Milton Keynes Dons on the 6th of October that year. He featured amongst the Stevenage first team over pre-season, impressing Allinson & the City coaching staff in the second half of our pre-season fixture at Clarence Park in July. Also officially joining up with the squad this weekend is ‘Trialist D (GK)’ – Loris Marcimain. The 24-year-old shot-stopper from Guadeloupe featured across our pre-season fixtures, earning himself a place amongst Allinson’s men for the upcoming campaign. City legend David Noble will also return for 2022/2023 but will concentrate on a coaching role alongside Chris Winton, Steve Conroy, and Pete Russell on Allinson’s bench. Noble remains registered amongst the playing staff should his services be required.

Well, I think we'd all wish Alex Lankshear all the very best in his career in front of him, joining Blackpool, albeit he'll be eased in over time and he'll have to work hard to make the grade, we wish him well. But on the minus side, that's another decent player gone, and as a few others here have been commenting, our squad doesn't look as strong for this season as it did last, we need strengthening, but just how far forward on that score are management prepared to go ? It wouldn't surprise me if we finished this season in a lower position than last

Good luck Alex and thanks for all your efforts last season
I thought we’d keep him for another season, but at least it explains why he didn’t start at Chelmsford and why we signed the lad from Stevenage on loan.
I agree we don’t appear to have strengthened the team but hopefully we’ll sign a couple more once the season settles down. Mid table for me …..

Yes, good luck to Alex. I thought last season he put in some very good performances.
I see it is for an "undisclosed fee". This seems to be the norm at this level these days, so much for transparency.
I think he will find Blackpool a very different place to St. Albans. Haven't seen too many donkey rides in SA.

All good news. Got some kind of fee, local young player makes the move into the Football League, and we come out of it an even more attractive prospect for young players. Everyone wins.
Only q - any chance of getting him in on loan? As others have said, not likely to be straight into Blackpool’s first team.

Everyone wins but we'll win even more if there's a sell-on fee or two involved and he turns out to be the next Craig Mackail-Smith
Not likely to be straight into the first team especially as he's signed for the Development Squad

www.stalbanscityfc.com/dylan-berry-signs/St Albans City are delighted to announce the loan signing of 19-year-old goalkeeper Dylan Berry on loan from Norwich City. Berry, who grew up in Harpenden, arrives at the Mozzarella Fellas Stadium at Clarence Park on an 8-week loan following the injury sustained by Michael Johnson. The 19-year-old is a former St Albans City season ticket holder and was present at last season’s Emirates FA Cup First Round victory over Forest Green Rovers. Coming through the ranks at Northampton Town, the keeper made the switch to Championship Norwich City at the start of the 2021-2022 season. Dylan will see his first inclusion in the squad on Saturday against Dulwich Hamlet.
