How did the Saints get on against Bedford Town?Match report of our last game - www.stalbansreview.co.uk/sport/9499556.Roberts_swoops_as_Eagles_soar_at_Clarence_Park/r/?ref=rssBrief notes: Drew Roberts won this match for the Eagles with a typical poacher’s goal as Bedford Town battled to victory against an uninspiring St. Albans City. The deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when Josh Beech got in behind the Saints defence. The Eagles midfielder latched on to a through-ball and showed composure to finish with a side-footed effort past goalkeeper Nick Jupp’s left side. The Saints improved somewhat in the second-half and finally managed to find a way back into the game when James Gray scored on 75 minutes. The St. Albans captain finished with power from close range to bring the Saints level. Five minutes later, the league’s top goalscorer, Drew Roberts, pounced to restore Bedford’s lead. James Hatch crossed from the right and Roberts met it and finished coolly with his touch sending the ball across the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to snatch victory for the Eagles. What did David Howell have to say about it?Howell interview - www.sacfc.co.uk/index.php/news/-manager-interview/1821-howell-it-just-didnt-seem-to-be-our-dayBrief notes: Howell had praise for Bedford Town goalkeeper Ian Brown who he said made some excellent saves to thwart the Saints. Overall, Howell concluded that it just wasn't our day on Saturday. The Saints boss said that we lacked a killer instinct in the final third. He said that we needed to be clinical in front of goal and was critical of his forwards. Talking about the Redditch United match on Tuesday night, Howell said from now until the end of the season, every match is going to be testing. He stressed the importance of bouncing back against Redditch and getting back on track. The City Archives - Barnet, 1951[/u]
We have a new feature to place alongside our previews this season, as one of Saints Chat's regular posters, Brummie, delves into the history books to provide us with match reports from the past. This gives a chance to walk down memory lane, or learn a little about City's past, before the next match in the present!
This time, Brummie has given us a typed report of a Herts Charity Cup final match that took place in 1951 against Barnet. Over to Brummie for the details!
Thanks, as always, go to Brummie for delving into the City Archives to provide us with an interesting read alongside our usual match previews!
