With all the end of season awards upcoming with regards goal of the season should we make the selection from only those goals scored at home/ I suggest this as more and most people attend the home games and whilst there are many great goals scored away from home not all are seen by many. sure Hemel and close to home grounds are well supported but the further afield the fewer who seem to travel so a great goal scored away from home may not be as well supported any way. Just a thought. ( My GOS is last Saturdays-great team effort I feel rather than spectacular)

Yes, as Gaz says, this might well make good sense. It's always a problem when some voters might not have seen some of the away goal contenders. However, those who go to most of the away matches may feel differently. I was just trying to think of some of the goal of the season contenders that I can remember for this season up until this point. These are just from players who are still at the club (I could think of one or two from players who have since moved on). St. Albans City 4 – 1 Circencester Town, Evostik League Southern Premier, 13th August 2011.Paul Furlong restored City’s three goal lead with a fine goal. The veteran striker showed he still has that killer instinct as he sent a looping effort over the keeper and into the back of the net. St. Albans City 4 – 1 Circencester Town, Evostik League Southern Premier, 13th August 2011.The Saints went in 3-0 up at HT thanks to a fine individual effort from Sean Shields. The young winger went on a solo run to the byline and through his sheer determination managed to squeeze a shot past the keeper from a very tight angle. St. Albans City 1 – 1 Brackley Town, Evostik League Southern Premier, 19th November 2011.Danny Hart’s cross from the left found its way through to Sean Shields and the young St. Albans winger applied a powerful finish from the tightest of angles. St. Albans City 3 – 0 Cambridge City, Evostik League Southern Premier, 17th December 2011.St. Albans soon made it three as centre-back, Matt Cutchey, scored a cracking goal that any striker would be proud to claim. The Saints defender curled a delightful shot into the top corner, leaving the keeper with no chance. St. Albans City 2 – 1 Leamington, Evostik League Southern Premier, 7th January 2012.Bakare put the Saints in front with a sensational goal. He made space for himself in the box before scoring with an emphatic finish that hit the bar on its way in. St. Albans City 2 – 1 Leamington, Evostik League Southern Premier, 7th January 2012.Bakare's second in this match as he showed quick feet and strength on the edge of the box and picked his spot to fire home a low drive. Those are a few that I can remember enjoying. I've probably missed some other good goals out. Could be worth looking through Childwick's videos on YouTube for more reminders of good goals scored this season - www.youtube.com/user/childwick/videosPersonally, from my rather hazy memory, I think the Matt Cutchey goal might have been my favourite, although I also liked the explosive first Sakho Bakare goal versus Leamington.

There is a video of the Cutchey goal here: From about 1 minute and 10 seconds in. As the video description says, the view of the goal is less than perfect, but it gives an idea. Pretty spectacular effort from Matt 'Messi' Cutchey, as I remember Mr Ridley dubbed him on Twitter after this goal.

This video shows the two Sakho Bakare goals versus Leamington at home: The first goal is early in the video after about 15 seconds. Unfortunately, not the best view again, but you see Bakare unleashing his effort at goal and you'll have to take my word for it that it was a fairly spectacular finish. I remember it fondly anyway. The second goal - Bakare's low drive at goal - is around 1 minute 15.

The Hitchin home game towards the start of the season (Ended 4-4) Had a couple of spectacular goals if I remember?

The Hitchin home game towards the start of the season (Ended 4-4) Had a couple of spectacular goals if I remember? That's true Saint. Didn't Matt Pooley score a cracking long range effort in that match? Obviously he isn't with us any more though and therefore I didn't note him down in my post above. However, thinking back, Sean Shields also scored a pretty superb long range goal in that match. If memory serves it was definitely a contender for goal of the season. A pretty powerful and emphatic long range drive into the back of the net. I think David Ijaha also scored a good goal in that match. In fact, I remember coming away from that match thinking that three of our four goals were pretty special. The fourth was a penalty by Bakare. I found the review report of that match here - www.stalbansreview.co.uk/sport/localsport/9211656.City_s_super_sub_thwarts_Canaries_in_Clarence_Park_thriller/Below, I've quoted how it describes the Shields and Ijaha goals from that August match versus the Canaries. St. Albans City 4 – 4 Hitchin Town, Evostik League Southern Premier, 24th August 2011.Sean Shields: David Ijaha:

I still remember Matt Hann's goal at Dorchester in the 2005/6 promotion season from the Conference South. The best goal I had seen in years involving Cousins, Ada and Roddis pinging about a dozen passes together before Roddis played in Matt, who executed a superb finish. If that couldn't win GOS (and it didn't) I doubt any away goal could.

Goal of the season is goal of the season wether it's home or away, does this normally go to a public vote? if so the home goals will have more chance

I remember the team goal away at Thurrock in our promotion season scored by Ben Walshe was an absolute cracker. Dont think it won goal of the season but if it had been at Clarence Park it surely would have had a chance. I agree with previous comments that either of the 3 goals against my mate Martin Bennett (Hitchin keeper who I have told didnt move for any of them!) or Matt Kuchey against Cambrisge at home.

TRue enough EMFTV and it is a public vote> But if the few of us who travelled to say Chippenham had witnessed a great goal(we didnt!) it would rely on a small number of fans for supoort( unless others saw it on Vid or took someone elses word), As you say GOTS is GOTS but making it Home GOTS surely simplifies it iin terms of fans who are likely to have seen and remembered it. But as I said, just a thought for debate which seems to have been sparked. And no favours in results yesterday either.

Hatboy, I think the Evo Stik Southern League website is two goals light for Sakho. They have someone called Blake as the scorer of our goals against Leamington. That would make him on fourteen, which I believe is the correct total.

Yeah they've had 'Blake' down since that game
