That was a really woeful way to end the season at home.....Ijaha, Watts and Gray were playing Chippenham on their own, and 3 against 11 is never going to work. Mc Gonigle was simply awful, and Furlong no better. Anyway I suppose the game didn't matter, but 450 people paid to watch it, and something better should have been produced. Very discouraging after the good recent run, and if Chippenham had been half decent it would have a real thrashing.
Having said that their first goal should have been disallowed, barging the ball out of the keepers hands is not permitted. What was very strange was that no one in the Saints team seemed to care.
A fair assessment, St Michael. On the other hand, if we had had our strongest side out, we would probably have won this game. There is no accounting for injuries/illness etc but if Bakare was fit to play, he should have started, no question. Watts played well but is he far better suited to playing lb than left mid. If anything, Henry should have played wide left with Watts behind him and I would have liked to have seen Bakare up front with the only other option, Lansiquot. Not ideal perhaps but the only option. Comely should definitely have started in place of McGonigle. I actually felt Newton was as good as anyone on Saturday and Henry was reasonably lively. I am not going to say that Jupp had a great game, because he didn't but I think he is allowed one blip after the several quite brilliant performances he has put in so many other games this season.
All I hope is that we are able to put our very strongest side at Brackley. If we can do that, we have every chance of getting a result and more importantly, finishing the season on a high note, where we can continue from next season.
