I have season tickets at London Irish RFC and when I had reason to telephone their office yesterday, the Ticketing Operative asked what "organisations" that I am involved with that they might target with a special ticket deal. I asked what he was on about and he explained that London Irish are looking to season ticket holders for contacts at their company social club, sports club, PTA, church group, or any such organisations in order that they can make an approach to it to offer tickets for specific forthcoming matches at a discount on cost price.
I appreciate that these things take manpower to administer but I thought it was a good idea.
Not quite as good an idea as a couple of seasons ago when the then club captain, the Legend that is Big Bob Casey telephoned me personally on my mobile to remind me that season tickets were now on sale. A few weeks later, scrum half Paul Hodgson telephoned me calling for special support at that week's match.
In each case it was a recorded message but they were good initiatives. How much did that cost, I wonder?
I guess that the Trust has a database of its membership with telephone numbers etc. but I doubt whether the club does. Wait! Maybe the club has that information from the Snowflake thingy forms. Perhaps I'll have a word with The Chap Who Used To Drive The Red Tractor.
If these ideas are adopted, I'll waive my usual marketing fees - Doin' It For The City etc.
