www.sacfc.co.uk/index.php/news/-latest-club-news/1958-gordons-a-tonic-for-saints.html" CITY have been given a lift ahead of Saturday's prestige friendly against a Chelsea XI at Clarence Park (3pm) with the news that experienced defender Danny Gordon has committed to the club.
Gordon, captain of Staines Town in Blue Square South last season, has signed Evo-Stik Southern League Premier forms for the Saints after an impressive showing in pre-season. "Danny is just the sort of quality defender we need," said City manager David Howell of the Aylesbury-based player. "He is neat and quick, jumps well and reads the game really well. He also has great experience at a higher level which will be good for us for what we hope will be a promotion push this season."
Gordon will take his place in a full-strength City squad for the game against Chelsea, with Howell getting ever closer to honing his men for the big kick-off away to Banbury United on August 18th.
The only doubts for the visit of the Blues are minor knocks to striker Lewis Toomey and defender James Gray.
Chelsea are sending a developmental squad to the Park, which is set to include members of last season's FA Youth Cup-winning side along with a number of the group who will compete in the new Premier League Under 21 League"

I liked the look of this guy against Watford,if we could sign Curtis Ujah as well, then we would have the basis of a solid defence. Now we just need a big front man and we will definitely be going places.

Apart from the forward line the squad is shaping up nicely

Howell just tweeted about the striker situation: 'Hope to have a new striker at St Albans v Stevenage on Wed despite Cambridge City turning down our offer for their striker Craig Hammond.'

We desperately need strikers, craig hammond would be fantastic signing, doubt Roberts would let him go.

Craig Hammond would be a perfect fit for us. He has a great goals per game ratio but he has only just signed a new contract with Cambridge City a couple of months ago. He is also just the right age at 24 and a far better bet for the future than signing an ex-pro type on the end of his career. Gary Roberts is no mug and I doubt he would want to let him go without a fight anyway. Perhaps we should have had the foresight to have signed him 3 years ago, when he was scoring for fun at Royston.

Just read the Ian Ridley article about Craig Hammond in the NLP Saturday night no chance of getting him but good to see he is the calibre of striker we are going for

Read in today's NLP that Us, Chesham (who he scored twice for against Berko) and Salisbury have all made approaches for Barry Hayles.
