We had a good spell in the first half, but couldn't make it count. Shields was quiet and well marked. Hayles hasn't got the pace to be unsupported up front and stumbles and fouls too much. Very disappointing in the second half - a real lack of imagination when confronted with their well organised defence. The best team won ... just when it looked like we were really building some momentum we get this after the Arlsey game - and they come back on Tuesday night ... no doubt we must 'bounce back' ...

This has to go down as one of the most disappointing results I've ever had watching St Albans, although we were fairly matched on paper it was another hoof and hope result
We need to hit a winning streak in the league or people are going to be questioning Howell again

Extremely disappointing. I think Gaz is spot on with what he said above. It was a closely fought tie but Lowestoft ultimately proved to be the better side. Barker summed it up well too. Some good periods in the first-half from the Saints. Lewis Toomey had a superb effort, which hit the bar. But the second-half was poor from a St. Albans City point of view. We didn't look as though we would find a way back into the game.

We looked slower as the game went on with lack of cohesion. Too much reliance on long balls upto HayLes.

I thought for the first 30 mins the Saints were the better side. But could not make it count. Sad to say it but I am afraid Barry Hayles needs to retire. Way off the pace and does not hold the ball up enough to warrant his place in that position.
As the game went on Lowestoft asserted themselves and the Saints ran out of ideas.
I have to say though, as a relative newcomer to Saints games that there is a nucleus of a good team here. But the team needs a proper big guy up front who can hold onto the ball and bring others into the play. Too often the ball came straight back.
Looking forward to success in the league now.

From what I have seen so far this season, although I wasn't at the game yesterday, we are a decent side but not good enough to get out of this league. The defence is adequate, but looks poorly organised at times, surprising when you think what a good and well organised defender Dave Howell was himself. The midfield lacks bite. I am afraid that this level you need two real bruisers in the centre, Hyde is a good footballer but not imposing enough. Not sure about Graham either, tends to be inconsistent as his recent playing record shows, however he can be very effective on his day. Upfront I would agree with Pirate. Howell knows this, which is why we went after Hammond, unsuccesfully. Hayles is a compromise, it needs a re-think alongside Toomey.
I see we have acquired Andre Scarlett, maybe to play in central midfield (?) He is not very big but he is a skilful and highly competitive player but at 34 I wonder whether he has the edge we need. Perhaps Mackie will play in midfield ? He might have the attributes we need, but I always think he seems a bit tentative and unwilling to really get stuck in and impose himself.
We can certainly concentrate on the league now, having failed to concentrate on the FA Cup.

It is a critical month, home league games with Arlesey and Barwell and St.Neots away, all tough games. I know it is a long haul but poor results in these games and we could be well off the pace.

Agree with St Michael, Next 3 games are crucial! I also look at our bench and we have hardly anything on there apart from Chris Henry! The squad needs to be improved!

I do not agree with St Michael when he says "we failed to concentrate on the F.A.Cup" We fielded our best available team in all three ties, and to my eyes the players tried their best to win, yesterday we came up against a team that were better than us. Without question Barry had a poor game, but I think it is a tad unfair to be calling for his retirement (Pirate), as he has played well on most occasions. I must admit that the last two matches have made me realise that we are not as good as I personally thought we were, I did believe that this squad were good enough to win this league, but it is clear we do need strengthening. Clearly we need another striker,Simon and Rob are both past their best and not good enough to be in the starting line up. Like Pirate I would like to see us get a big target man, wouldn't mind Effiong back, but I don't think that would be likely to happen. I am puzzled by Sean's performances lately, two brilliant games against Gosport and Ashford then totally ineffective in the last two Cup ties.Is it that he can only 'perform' against weaker opponents ? He has improved from last season but we need further improvement, but I guess he is young and that we must not expect too much too soon. As others have said the next three games are cucial. With Stourbridge beating Chesham 5 - 0 and the probability that we will lose the three points from the Kettering match we are in danger of losing touch with the leader already.

Lowestoft are a good side but feel we let ourselves down in certain areas of the field, especially midlfield where our strikers weren't getting any service. We also gave the ball away far to easily. Gutted that once again we have failed to make any real progress in the cup.
